You have an unhealthy obsession with sharing your bathroom habits. There used to be somebody else round here who did the same. Think they're banned now.

It's been done. Get over it.

Flutt was much better at it too.

I'm not getting a smart phone. Ever. Not unless normal run-of-the-mill phones become obsolete and I'm forced to buy one. The reason? I don't want or need one. I've got the most basic of Nokia phones and it's perfect for my needs. It's got Snake, a flashlight, a little calendar to note down birthdays and Shark Week and it can text and make phone calls. It also has a ringtone sounds like a baby giggling and who doesn't love a (cute not ugly) baby? I'm happy as Larry!

Recently people (friends and colleagues) have actually been scoffing at the fact that I don't own one. Up till about 2 years ago no one batted an eyelid but now people openly laugh at me and my phone and now they have a right auld gawk at it like I've taken out a tube of thrush cream to make a phone call on. I feel like I'm making some kind of one woman protest against smart phones when all it comes down to is the fact that I simply don't want one.

Am I the only one? Anyone else like me? Anyone else feel persecuted? And if you do judge, why?

i have highlighted the relevant word above.

I can look up porn anywhere, another great function of a smart phone

I can't watch high definition pornography on the LUAS on my nokia 3210.

Sure I can look at text message based porn such as ( . Y . ) and 8::::::: ) - - - , but I haven't been able to masturbate to that stuff for years.

Yeah this reason has been given before just with a bit more wit. Back to the drawing board for you, I'm afraid.

I find it the other way around, old people over 30 mighn't bother with smartphones while most young people can't live without them. I'd personally be f**ked without it.

Some yokes to have when travelling for GPS. Find everything. Look up reviews for restraunts and prices and bars near you. check account balance anywhere, skype and viber anywhere, tis the job

OP get out of the stone age

Your friends sound a bit strange but usually the people who piss and moan about smartphones don't have one or haven't properly used one.

I couldn't see the appeal until I got a decent one but now I think they're the best thing ever.

Emails, calendars, addresses, navigation, internet browsing, audio books, music, ordering taxis, shopping, taking photos/videos, booking flights, etc..

The OP isn't moaning about smartphones though, she just doesn't want one. It's other people at her over her old phone that's making her piss and moan.

I have a very basic smartphone. 99% of the time I use it for just texting or calling. Not everyone thinks it's the best thing ever, what with everyone being different and all.

Just wondering what people are paying for their smartphones per month if its bill pay?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,802 ✭✭✭beks101

But you can't check into cool places on facebook such as expensive restaurants and douchey nightclubs or sign off your emails with "Sent from my iPhone" if you don't have one...

35-40 a month with unlimited calls and texts to every Irish mobile, free landline calls (regular numbers), 15GB data and eircom wireless hotspot access.

    eMobile

Free Galaxy Note 2 at the time as they screwed up the billing - again! At least you can usually get them to compensate for their mistakes though with some persistence!

It was one of the first things I did when I got mine. I didn't want to be one of those smug Apple snobs.

Meh, don't have one, don't care. I don't like gadgets but why should I begrudge people their toys?

When technology gets to the point that books stop being printed then I'll start firebombing apple stores, but until then leave the folks to it.

To be honest the only reason why I have a smartphone is for Android app development and email. I don't care about having a Facebook app or playing Angry Birds and I find having the internet at my fingertips 24/7 distracting. Sometimes I go back to my old 5 year old Nokia and I feel I can focus on things more after a couple of days. The only real negative is not being able to access my email until I get near a PC.

The only reason I don't have my old Nokia 3310 is because I lost the charger. I have another oldish Nokia phone, went through the wash twice and the dryer once and still works. Only just bought my first smartphone today, I'm terrible with the touchscreen keyboard.

Got a well regarded budget android phone a few months back because I was a bit nervous about being 'left behind' (in a technological sense).

Still using a ****ty nokia. Had a smartphone few years ago but I just broke really soon after I got it. Thinking about getting a new smartphone but I'll probably just break it. The battery life on smartphones annoys me but I'd like to have one especially for emails, checking bus times or anything like that when out and about and maps for when travelling.
