There's REALLY serious lightening in Cork City at the moment. Haven't seen lightening this dramatic in Cork ever before.

It was proceeded by pretty violent wind which seems to have calmed down a bit now, although it's still windy.

pretty nasty conditions here now on the west coast of Mayo, squally showers, severe gusts of wind, hail, thunder, you name it.

But we sure are used to it.

Same here, would like to have seen that in daylight like being in the eye of a violent storm very heavy loud rain along with big bangs of thunder & lightening which moved along really quickly to no rain and a bit windy within minutes.

Nasty thunder & lightening bout 20 mins ago. Power gone for the whole area. Some impressive fork lightening. Still the odd flash now

Are we in for more of this tonight, or is it just one system moving quickly across?

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,544 ✭✭✭Hogzy

A very very wild and windy night in Galway. The lights are flickering but they're holding out so far.

The ESB map is showing up a fault in Frankfield (Cork City Southside)
and clusters of faults on the Southwest Coast.

    http://www.esb.ie/esb-networks/powercheck/ shows the maps.

Might help track the storm's impact on the power grid anyway.

The reports come in automatically when a fault occurs. They've a fairly sophisticated SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) network.

Ennis is very quiet. All we've had all night has been a small bit of rain and breezy with a few gusts.
