Looks ominous, when do you think it will make land fall?

........NOW! :D Cloud should have made landfall now. As for winds, expect a brief lull before the next batch of wind (tonight/in the early morning).

Met Eireann 1622 update:Mainly dry for a time this evening with the wind easing. A band of heavy rain will spread from the Atlantic later this evening and early tonight followed by showers. It will become very windy again with strong to gale force Southerly winds veering Westerly and gusting to around 120 km/hr in exposed places. Lowest temperatures will range 3 to 5 degrees Celsius.

    hr.gif
Tomorrow morning will be very windy with widespread gales and some severe gusts. The wind will moderate a little in Southern parts during the afternoon but Westerly gales will continue over Ulster, North Connacht and North Leinster until nightfall with gusts to around 110 km/hr. Weatherwise tomorrow there will be sunshine and showers, the showers will be prolonged at times over North Ulster but in the South of the country they will be well-scattered with a lot of dry weather. Top temperatures will range 8 to 10 degrees

So much of the same then. When the sun was shining and you were out of the wind there is some strength in the sun now.
Turned cold here in last hour, 9c down to 4.6c

Winds are likely to increase across the west between 7 p.m. and midnight reaching a peak with a sharp windshift from southerly to westerly winds, possible gusts to about 110 km/hr especially if a squall line feature develops. This will race across the country overnight and clear Dublin by 0300h. Unlike previous features this one looks strongest for the south although it will be just about equally strong when it hits Donegal around 0100-0200h.

For the east coast, nothing much will happen before midnight or so, but there should be a crowd of radar-watchers settling in for the night shift around here.

Seeing how active the weather was last night, it would not surprise if this windshift came with some thunder and hail as well.

The met office have issued a warning for NI tomorrow for winds of up to 70mph. They don't often give wind warnings and they expect the worst of it from 5am onwards

Apparently some of the local beach got washed away. The banks just above the beach were allowed to get too high and the sea undercut them, not good!

Its been a very strange day, storm force winds, thunder and lightning and torrential hail squalls in the morning, sunny, calm and mild in the afternoon and now back to storm force winds with heavy rain. Pretty much the definition of four seasons in one day!

3 strikes off the southwest coast in the last 10 minutes.

I'd say we could see conditions favorable for some lightning in the west by 11pm then crossing the country to reach the east by about 3am.
