Where did you download it from?

Im gonna assume he meant install rather than installed.

    Got it from here.

Just change the language to English when setting up and hey presto. Seems pretty much as before but a little smoother.

Would there be much of a difference between this version and our own? Does this exclude me from updates OTA in Ireland now?

No issue at all here! Have to say, not being a fan of touchwiz, some of the new widgets look alright and the phone is very smooth and quick now. Greyed out notification bar isn't so great but on the whole I really like it.

create a backup before you do, and you can no problem. backup takes a while though and takes up a nice bit of space (think mine was 5.5gb when i did)

Takes an hour to download from Hotfile so ill start now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,416 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

so which one are people using? UK unbranded I presume?
I'm running 4.1 already (DL12 version) which was leaked only last week so presuming I'm probably either on same version or maybe a version behind..

What should we be using if we want to flash now and where do we get it?

  • Registered Users Posts: 17,416 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

    odin

    3.04 I think

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,163 ✭✭✭✭danniemcq

there is a torrent of it floating around too.

Got it from the xda forum and it was downlaoded in about 15 mins (could be different for others though i guess)

700mb~ zip which extracked to just over a gb.

Be interesting to see how long it takes for google now to start showing relevent stuff for me.

edit oh and as Blazer said its odin 3.04 used. If you are wary there are a few guides online

    Cheers for that dannie

Taking the plunge now on the xda file.

Have you tried to root JB? Does the chainfire root+CWM method work?

haven't got around to it yet, was kinda tender after Sunday and was watching Sam coming home so thought it would be better to leave it till this evening!

    No issues flashing.

    4.1.1
    AP & baseband: XDLIB
    csc: XFDLI1

kies picks up phone connected but no longer supports upgrading.

I've flashed the same upgrade as you. Is there any way to get it to work with kies again? Or am I stuck in the cycle that now that I've upgraded using a leaked/no branded rom that I have to keep on using Odin in the future?

I was happy to use Odin to get a look at JB early, but now that Samsung are rolling it out officially, I'd like to have an official version sourced through samsung directly.

I *think* you can change the CSC and kies will work but don't quote me.

Failing that; flash an old official fw and upgrade via kies then. Thinking I might do that when it's out.

    that it does.

Not sure what I should change the CSC to tho. It's already BTU (UK)

    Possibly one of these
    I9300XXDLIB CSC file included:
ALB, BGL, CM, COA, CYO, CYV, ERO, EUR, MSR, ORL, ORS, SEB, SEE, TMT, TOP, TRA, TSR, TWO, VIM, VVT, XEH, XEO, XEZ, XS

ah sure it's only a factory reset..but I don't have my usb cable to check if kies will work

How are you finding it? I might be going mad but I think the battery may be slightly better now, although I will most likely give it another couple of days and see for sure.

Stock firmware is available on XDA - link to thread

I'm sure it'll be available OTA and via KIES this week.

post #2 - LG8 I think was the latest fw for the GS3 (with the LH1 modem update)

@MuppetCheck - only running it a few hours. No issues so far, no lost data, update when smoothly. Just no kies update support.

Do I download one of the UK unbranded firmwares?

So is flash supported in Sammy's new ROM? Or does the JB of Google strip it out?
