You can request feedback from PAS.

I don't know how useful it is but why not ask.

In this case AFAIK it's a Revenue competition, so it'd be from CSD in Revenue.

Thought Revenue used PAS tbh...but either way - get feedback!

    HI There

Has anyone any insight into the AP Compliance role

Any guidance on the number of examples each section requires?

I am currently on the 2012 AO panel - but that is coming to an end so trying to keep my options open.

Im sure it will be very competitive with a significant interest - especially with all the upcoming retirements!

I heard 35 out of 150 made interview - it was of a very high standard. I requested feedback - took a couple of weeks and got it this morning just! Definitely worth asking for it.

New AO Competition on revenue.ie today. Another AP Panel due soon, but I think it's Internal. There are AP and PO posts advertised today as well.

How often do Ao's get paid - is monthly, fortnightly or weekly? What dates in the month? For example this month what are the dates you would be paid?
    Thanks

Every second Thursday. Not sure if this week is a pay week though (my wife is holding the purse strings! :D)

CO + SO grades are paid weekly in arrears.
EO, AO, HEO, AP, PO, A/Sec, D/Sec and Sec/Gen grades are paid fortnightly in arrears.

1st January 2015 was a payday for all grades.

Just saw advertisement on public jobs for the role of AO in Revenue Commissioners and have a few queries in relation to this campaign, having read through this massive thread. Some interesting reading.
I am not an accountant, or anything like it, but I do meet the educational criteria. I am currently an EO elsewhere in the Civil/Public Sector.
I believe I can demonstrate the competencies but my concern is that I am not an accountant, and surely private sector people with industry experience would be the preferred profile for this?
Also, how likely is it that there will be an aptitude test for this campaign, or will they likely short list based on CV content/competencies? (I wouldn’t fancy my chances in aptitudes but would be confident at interview).
Are most AO’s in Revenue accounts/auditors or a mix of that and EO’s/CO’s promoted from elsewhere?
I assume these roles wouldn’t be call centre-esque roles where you deal with customers one to one all day on the phone?
My understanding would be that you’d be researching/investigating etc, doing work for HEO’s/AP’s?

    Hi,
Could you tell me about an interview, please?
Is there just the interview or any aptitude test?

Hello @luckyboy-Can you please tell me what Executive Officers in Tax/Compliance/Audit do on a daily basis on the job? You've given most helpful information about the Administrative Officer role in your area.
They're looking for Leaving Cert Hons Maths, and or professional qualifications like degrees in tax/accounting/statistics/maths. I don't have any of these but have a business degree(not a recent graduate), and have worked in an enforcement/compliance/accounts payable/customer service area in the public service. Would the lack of Hons Maths or a specialist qualification disqualify me from the Executive Officer competition, do you think?
I'm trying to decide whether/not to apply, as I dunno whether I'd be suitable for the job if it requires specialist maths/statistics/accounting/tax skills.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi Anna

On a day-to-day basis, having worked in all of the main Revenue offices in the country, I can honestly say that Executive Officers in Tax/Compliance/Audit perform a very similar role to Higher Executive Officers or Administrative Officers. Your audits are theoretically less complex and you will have less staff to manage, but - if you want it and are able for it - you will be given almost equivalent responsibility. This can be a double-edged sword: empowering but also possibly exploitative.

I wouldn't let the Honours Maths issue hold you back. I know there are people internally who are questioning how an EO competition can possibly have a higher entry bar than an AO or AP competition. Case in point: I don't have Honours Maths myself, but have other qualifications at various levels (like yourself). I'd apply anyway and see how Revenue interpret the Maths criterion when they see what the "field" looks like.

The plan is to put the new EOs straight onto a comprehensive audit training programme. It is a 3-year Diploma in Applied Taxation run in conjunction with the University of Limerick, so you'll get all the training you need on the job. There is also the possibility of doing a further year to get the BA (Honours) in Applied Taxation and - though limited to a handful of applicants - possibly an MBA programme in UL as well. So there are lots of possibilities ...

    !

Was the 2012 AO compliance panel not exhausted (all used up?) or were you waiting on a specific location (ie not Dublin)??

    Hello

Has anyone heard back from Revenue yet regarding interviews/assessments for the Executive Officer(Tax & Compliance) competition where applications had to be submitted by 2nd July, 2015? I haven't heard back yet, and dunno whether to assume that I haven't got through.

    Thanks

@luckyboy, Hi, could you please tell me if a person gets called for the final interview (2nd interview) for the EO position in the revenue, would the person actually be on the panel already or there would be something else they expect to see in the 2nd interview? thanks

No, I wouldn't think a candidate would automatically be on the panel just because they get a second interview. AFAIK, the second interview is used to assess three specific competencies not already examined in the first interview. To that extent, it's as if you start from scratch in the second interview ...

I know that last year the interviews were over a number of weeks. Remember that not all of the board are available over the summer too. I suppose they need holidays too :pac:

I think the interviews were over about 3/4 weeks. There was also a day or two in the final week. This is for the people who couldnt sit their initial date due to illness or holidays. Also, there are usually 2 boards for a big competition like this. It is possible that the 2 boards will not be sitting at exactly the same time. Switching boards might allow you to schedule a suitable time.

No point contacting them at the moment, id say. Wait until you get your official date & then contact them if it doesnt suit.

@luckyboy, thank you very much. Would you know how many people they are actually taking this time for the EO role?
    thank you.

I haven't heard a specific number. I suspect there is no exact figure in mind but I do know that at least 100 are needed for January 2016, and I suspect that possibly another 100 will be taken on in time for September 2016 (when a new training cycle would ordinarily commence). Not sure how many are being interviewed this time (it's at least 340 and possibly up to 500) but for the previous internal EO competition in Summer 2014, 330 approx were interviewed initially and 202 of those made the final panel (I think a second batch were later interviewed but I have no figures for that). What I do know is that Revenue needs lots of EOs asap and is - in the various Business Plans for 2016 currently being devised - actually counting on lots of EOs coming in during the very near future ...

Is anyone interviewing for the latest round of AO compliance vacancies?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭xOxSinéadxOx

    Anybody doing these interviews?

I have mine next week, anybody have any tips? I found the application form to be a bit of a nightmare, it took me at least 6 hours to do, at least we know the interview will be based around it...

Yes, I got on too. I asked but they couldn't tell me how many were on the 4 panels or how many places there are.

No one knows how many places there will be. Be careful who you vote for in the General Election if you really want the job...! ;)
