That's interesting but I wouldn't be against them being allowed to do it if it saves the taxpayer (me) money. Thought they would fill in the depo though?

Should make no difference in the round as lower costs for BE would simply reduce subsidy (in a perfect world) so the exchequer ends up the same. However, a major competition issue arises if the state owned bus operator is permitted to do this but the private operators are precluded.

I stopped at a petrol station this morning. I started filling my petrol. I noticed a bus driver of a bus eirenn bus. Filling the bus with green diesel. Is this normal? Or do they get dipped or what?

Is Bus Eireann state owned? They might be allowed to use green diesel.

The DF uses green diesel in all their diesel vehicles. I should know, I've filled enough of them!

It was parked roughly where the E91 is parked on maps, I didn't have time to stop in the middle of the road to take a snap :p

Maybe you couldn't see past all the smoke the car was producing :pac::pac::pac:

Id say they are, but that's only a guess.

I can just imagine a trail of smoke behind the tank. :D

Also, anyone know a tyre shop that will fit tyres supplied by the customer in Portlaoise? Conzy will be bringing me down 2 part-worn potenzas and I'd like to get them fitted on Saturday while at the meet.

Never thought of a before video sorry :(

Hope you brought a book with you. Those guys are great, but you'll be waiting a while. :D

Believe it or not, they took the car straight away and i was out of there in around 20 minutes lol! Guess I was lucky! :p

When I first heard the exhaust I have to say I was very disappointed indeed... Couldnt hear a difference at all. But on the way home I could hear a difference but its not a huge difference I have to say, just deeper and throatier but not really louder.

Do these things have to settle in or anything?

Yeah you must have been lucky!! :pac:

Exhausts generally have a bedding in time alright, give it a couple/few weeks for a bit of carbon to build up and the resonance to hit it's stable level, then you should know what it'll sound like for the foreseeable. (Although they do generally say that they begin louder and more brash sounding before bedded in, and then get a little softer, so who knows...)

Ohhh, I can't handle the long pages.
I've ADHD so if I don't get to change page quick enough I just get bored and find something else. Haha

Mate and myself changed one of the rear calipers in the T4 as it was ceased up to feck. Luckily I had a spare for that that side.

Got to the other side and same freakin' story. So now I've been around the place to find a replacement caliper. Found one eventually. Fecks sake.

Ah well, 430000 km will take their toll on some things.

Ya I was delighted with the service, was brilliant :)

Well maybe its just I was expecting too much...
Dont get me wrong, it does sound nice, just not as much of a roar as I was expecting! Anything I can do to add a bit more to it?? Would a panel filter/induction kit help??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,920 ✭✭✭✭MetzgerMeister

A panel filter will do absolutely sweet fook all to the sound. An induction kit will give the engine area a greater roar but this won't affect the exhaust.

i dont know if they make them for your car as they are rare enough afaik. i got mine on ebay.de for about 100e less than they were available for in the uk. cost about 110e delivered. its a proper kit though, the air intake that comes with it is huge too. it also looks pretty cool in the engine bay :o and the sound after 2,500k when you have the foot down is very nice. sounds very much like an exhaust system but only when you want it too.
they are the favourite kit for astra h owners but maybe there is something better for the mk5 golfs :)

Think it depends on the car. The K&N panel filter I put into mine increased the induction sound noticeably. it's still not at the noticeable level of a full-on open induction system, but you do hear the engine sucking more than it did with the standard filter. :)

Are you sure it's not a placebo effect? :P

These panel filters all say "5bhp increase" or whatever but they don't. I had one in the RX8 and in the MPS but neither felt faster nor sounded louder at all.

Air filters add feck all hp. You are lucky if it will leave same amount hp in your car, after "upgrade". Good few cars lose hp with those performance filters.

If you do go that route, you need a proper whole upgrade and remap after.

I wouldn't ever even think they'd add any power to it, that's just dreaming. But the induction sound was audibly louder with it in. It is less than half the width of the OEM filter though, so there's far more room in the air box with it in there.

Don't get me wrong, it made no difference to the exhaust sound and as for performance increase... But the induction sounds slightly more whooshy under heavy load. :P
