I wouldn't ever even think they'd add any power to it, that's just dreaming. But the induction sound was audibly louder with it in. It is less than half the width of the OEM filter though, so there's far more room in the air box with it in there.

Don't get me wrong, it made no difference to the exhaust sound and as for performance increase... But the induction sounds slightly more whooshy under heavy load. :P

It probably only works in 5+ cylinder cars, not 4 cyl or rotaries :pac:

Glad to see it still looks in good shape. He's removed the tints from the front windows I see.

its mostly to do with people sticking induction kits almost next to the throttle body which is usually at the back of the engine bay far away from a cold, solid air flow.

Exhaust could do with a clean :p

If the exhaust is a Miltek resonated it's not gonna be very loud GW :(

Also was out washing my car by the light of the moon with that new Meguars car wash and it's awesome, had to call it quits at 20 past 8 as it got pitch black after washing alloys and giving exhaust pipes a good scrub, clay bars and 38 euro bottle of wax will have to wait for another day :(

Just looked down at the washing machine after hearing a clinking noise, peered through the glass and saw a tail-light bulb bouncing around in there. Hope the bloody thing doesn't break!

Are you sure it's not a placebo effect? :P

These panel filters all say "5bhp increase" or whatever but they don't. I had one in the RX8 and in the MPS but neither felt faster nor sounded louder at all.
Outside of the induction sound dampening, the bigger the engine (and or turbo/remap etc) the more the induction sound will change as it pulls in more air. For sure increased airflow (panel filter) will change induction sound noticeably.. view it in reverse, if your airfilter was dirty and restricting flow, do you not agree the airflow and therefore induction noise would sound different?
Air filters add feck all hp. You are lucky if it will leave same amount hp in your car, after "upgrade". Good few cars lose hp with those performance filters.
If you do go that route, you need a proper whole upgrade and remap after.

Well, its not that cut and dry, you are painting a load of different intake modifications with the same brush there. ""Cold air intakes" and induction bypass kits do tend to reduce HP (as they are sucking in hot air, "noisey" air flow etc), however a drop in panel filter into a cars existing intake system will not reduce HP unless it flows less freely or there is another factor (fueling, as below).

How much air does a K&N panel flow over a stock OEM type paper filter? Quite a bit actually, but at the cost of also allowing (much) more dirt through. though outside of Industry this isnt much of a concern in a non-dusty region like Ireland. Here we should be more worried about water soak on paper filters.
    image014.jpg

This is "the test" on Air Filters, from an Industry, no-marketing point of view: http://www.billswebspace.com/AirFilterTest.htm

If you increase airflow and get the same BHP, then you have insufficient fueling as your MAF will monitor the increased flow and IDC will increase to accomodate (ie you dont "need" a remap, even on ancient engines). A good example of a car with insufficent fueling stock would be the 850CSi, it has the exact same fueling as an 850i but 25% more power. Power isnt free, increasing the airflow on an 850CSi usually leads to a reduction in power (which people incorrectly blame K&N etc for), but its a telltale a sign the fueling is off. My CSi doesnt have these problems..

"it will speed till the end of the clock first gear will do 100km/h !!! will overtake any car even 2.0 tdi"
"..will swap for audi a4 or golf tdi"

But then the poor fella will be just looking at the rear of his old car.

Mug..... utter Mug. Actually, he's a Mug of Mugs

It's a non resonated exhaust jim, still not loud enough lol!

They are a pretty quiet system, maybe abit louder though when you give it some beans, for pure noise you want Piper, Mongoose ain't bad either.

Miltek are good quality though, maybe you can completely de-res it and get a sports cat and downpipe for some more noise

Yes, mine is nothing like that at all!
I want somethin more like that lol!
    God dammit

Piper are ok, quality apparently isn't the best, people from ST OC saying that one of the twin pipes is longer than the other and the like, Mongoose seems to be the one to go for + you can get a full Mongoose system wheras Piper don't make some of the system components like downpipe

The way I figure it, for a car that you're going to use every day, you want a certain amount of loud when you give it the beans and for it to be fairly normal when just cruising on the motorway or something. That piper decat is just too loud going by that video.

I really like the sound of my exhaust, with one silencer removed. Louder, and more aggressive sounding about say 3.5 or 4k revs, but pretty standard below that.

youd have to ask the seller does an intake come with it cos it did with mine, although judging from where the kit goes on a gti it might not need it, it looks like the filter is right behind the grill anyway.

this is like what i got, but my standard airbox was a good bit back from the grill and had a funnel type intake anyway out towards the grill http://www.ebay.de/itm/SIMOTA-CARBON-COLD-AIRBOX-OPEL-ASTRA-H-GTC-2-0TURBO-AB-BAUJAHR-2005-/120974085297?pt=DE_Autoteile&hash=item1c2a9e0cb1#ht_6297wt_906

    Cheers man.
The price of the second one, jeez!
Is the first one a proper cold air Intake?

A cold air intake (CAI) is a cone filter with a pipe that goes from the air intake on the head down to the front bumper where the cone is.

A short ram intake (SRI) is one that has a small pipe from the air intake to the cone and is still in the engine bay. This is more likely to be sucking in hot air though.

    @ Ardennes1944,
Ya i might shoot him an email, no harm!
Tell me again, what do you like about it and what could I expect from it?!

    @ MetzgerMeister,
And which is the simota man?

    CAIS+Remap couldn't hurt

    Being poor sucks though :(

if the simota for your car is like the stock system like mine is then its as good as can be really. ill try take a video tomorrow of the noise but it usually never comes out good. google the kit and see did any gti owner put one on his and give a review. i put lots of research into kits before i chose this one, dont rush into it :)

Just been googling and can't find much, just people saying go Carbonio, itg and forge etc etc etc. Prob is, I know sweet fcuk all bout this so it's hard to even understand what I'd be getting from it! I'll do some research anyway.

All I want is a touch more of a rasp lol!
