Unfortunately Geno has been consistent, consistently bad apart from a few meaningless games at the end of each season. Check out QBR score for 2014 Geno 29th out of 30 for 2014 and 28th out of 30 for 2013. I have no problem signing a veteran free agent but why wait for another opportunity to sign a possible franchise quarterback. Who is to say when the chance may occur again. Mariota may not be the franchise QB of the future but he has the potential to be and if the Jets have the chance to get him without any costly trades they should strike now.
Also I hope there is no chance of Vick coming back!!
Sorry for going on about this but I have gut feeling that this could change the Jets for years to come.

Can't see Vick coming back, hopefully he's gone. Harvin is a reasonably tough call. You've really got a number of options - pay him his money with the draft pick which I believe is a 4th round, cut him and draft the best WR available which could be either Cooper or Edwards or you sign someone like Maclin aka the best free agent who isin't Harvin. The whole thing about Harvin being generally poisonous in the locker room even with all his talent would swing me to a combination of option 2 and 3. Draft a WR is say the second round as it is a decent WR crop and go after the best WR free agent.

Hard to know about Harvin but would think there should be a good WR available in round 2. i wonder if the Jets would take a chance on Green-Beckham if he was still on the board. Depending who they take in round 1 this would mean that DB, offensive line and linebacker would all need to be addressed in free agency. I would like to see them go for Jason Worilds if available and possibly two corners, a safety and a guard if not two.

There is the difference between taking a QB and any other position when off the field stuff is in play. I'd take Green-Beckham if and it's an if he was available at 38. Heard his older brother has been taking care of him and he might be straightening things out.

I'm of the opinion that they should keep him around. If he's cut they will need to spend around $45 million to avoid cap penalties. Having Harvin is much better than having a 4th round draft pick

I don't think we'll have problem spending it and with so much wr talent around don't think we need to go mad for harvin.

With $45 million to fill gaps the jets would be very competitive if only they had a top 15 quarterback. Looking at all the draft boards the concensus pick to Tampa is Winston. Would people be happy to take a shot at Mike Glennon? I thinks he'd be an upgrade from day one.

Very much against drafting another QB.

Let's go out and build a roster.

Brandon Marshall has being traded to the Jets, likely means Harvin will be cut now.

A 5th rounder looks fantastic value. He was clearly injured for a sizeable chunk of last season. However the Jets can't go far with no one to through him the ball. Decker, Marshall, Kerley, Harvin...they can't all stay surely. Harvin will go I'd say.

Happy with the Marshall news and it probably means Harvin is a gonner. Also think they overpaid for Harris but probably needed to keep him for continuity and leadership. Now that the Jets are down two draft picks I am beginning to wonder if all the talk about trading no. 6 pick with the Eagles has some basis. I know I have been pro Mariota previously but it would be impossible to turn down the type of deal being talked about.

Delighted with Harris and Marshall, big money for Harris bit with such a big cap it's too be expected...

Happy with the Harris signing, did overpay him, but if he had of walked we would have been very bare at LB. the other option would have been to sign a lesser player like Spikes or AJ Hawk for similar money. Stick with what you know. signing Marshall and cutting Harvin will save about 2.8million

upgrade the O-line now and sign maybe CJ Spiller and the Jets will be doing fairly well

More rumblings that we're after Iupati... would be a good signing imo. Suh now with the Dolphins (hopefully he doesn't like travelling overseas for the Webley game!) too which is a big upgrade for them.

the minute the word was out that Suh was heading to the Fins, interior O-line became the Jets biggest area of need. Imagine him going against Winters and Aboushi

Seems we are still in discussions with either Mallett or Fitzpatrick, depending on the source.

NE not taking up the option on Revis is another one to keep an eye on.

Iupati seems to be headed to the Cardinals.

Mallett has signed a new 2 year deal with the Texans

Missed that, maybe that is why the Fitzpatrick rumour started up.

If I had Mallet I'd give him that too tbh. Not sure what he is but he can be a back-up at least and you'll know more in 1-2 years.

Think it is about $3 million per year. When you see the money given to McCown & the Sanchize it is a good bit of business.

I'd rather Fitzpatrick than Smith. If we can play good defense and run the rock Fitzpatrick has the ability to perform some game management and not lose you a game. Smith is a total whiff.

the Jets are to sign guard James Carpenter. dont know much about him, but he is a former first round pick!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,638 ✭✭✭phatkev

49ers release Stevie Johnson. Could be a smart move for the Jets to make a play for him, he has done pretty well under Chan Gailey in the past

    REVIS is coming home :D:D.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,411 ✭✭✭franglan

Loads of cap room so why not. Couldn't see John Idzik getting that done so we have an upgrade at GM already. Revis sure does get his money. #money

Revis is definitely the best business man in the NFL!

He definitely maximises his earnings potential.

Lets not forget the good Idzik done, if it wasn't for him there wouldn't have had the cap space to make this move and Sheldon Richardson may have been applying his trade somewhere else! Next thing on the agenda for Maccangan will hopefully be giving Mo a long term deal

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,411 ✭✭✭franglan

Agreed Kev, Idzik did half his job very well!

the James Carpenter deal has been completed, its a 4 year deal I think. I dont mind the Fitzpatrick trade he knows Chan Gaileys system inside out, gives Geno a solid mentor too
