This is a really tough one.

I have to go with Neville, he is a Lieutenant colonel and a virologist. Both these skills are exactly what is needed come zed day. he is a great all rounder with very specialist skills, and the guy I want watching my back.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭Daisy M

Neville is my choice same reasons as Micky. Also Neville was able to live without human contact for a long period with no real hope of ever seeing another human being and not go mad or give up hope.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 546 ✭✭✭gufnork

Yeah, this one's a no-brainer for me. Neville has been doing exactly what's required for a long time already, and as good as Arnie is against the Predator i really can't see how he has the edge here especially when you consider Neville is immune to the mutant-y types and he's a virologist to boot.

Definite no contest here. Neville wins.

neville takes this one for me. he exhibits mental stability, combat training, and a proven track record operating in overrun urban environments

Neville for me as well. For all the reasons stated above and also that he is good to look at :D

Neville, reasons already stated in previous posts.

Neville makes it through to the semi's.

    7-1

Next round up in a bit.

Nevile gets my vote. Qualified doctor, resourceful, hunter, handy at the ole DIY and not to mention potential creator of a vaccine.

    Nevile for taoiseach!

MacGyver. Sure, he doesn't like guns, but he doesn't need them. And he's brilliant, thinking quickly to get out of any situation. Oh, and he looks cooler in his pic than Bear does. :p

Bear is too much of a risk taker, IMO.

I gotta go with McGyver in this one. He will keep us alive and also be able to contribute greatly to reconstructing the neceassary infrastructure of life in the aftermath

  • Registered Users Posts: 7,523 ✭✭✭Hande hoche!

MacGyver. Pretty much a genius at improvisation. Grylls while good at basic survival wouldn't stack up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,674 ✭✭✭Peetrik

I'm going to consider them both fictional characters on an equal footing.

From that perspective, I find MacGyvers heroic levels of initiative and ingenuity, even under pressure are much more impressive than the ability to 'probably' find your way back to civilisation after a few days in the woods drinking urine. While Bear is guzzleing down litres of his own piss, I'd imagine MacGyver would fashion some sort of filtering device out of bark and reed beds to supply us both with fresh water.

    MacGyver gets my vote

mcgyver never stayed in a hotel while pretending he was freezing his nutsack off out in the wild.

    Angus McGyver!

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,065 ✭✭✭Kash

I'm with Mac on this one - he's got himselft out of more sticky situations than Bears had hot, cold and raw dinners.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,107 ✭✭✭RiderOnTheStorm

I love Bear, but will have to go with Mac on this one. We all know his aversion to guns, but this could be a strength, as he has great experience in making traps / explosions / etc from nothing. If you rely on guns, then in a post apoc world you will eventually get into trouble as you will run out of ammo, break gun or loose it, etc. Also, Bear has great survival skills, but we have never seen his fighting skills. His survival is limited (on TV) to surviving against nature and not against a pro-active enemy. Ok, he was a soldier, but that brings us back to the gun angle.

So its Mac that gets my vote.

so thats 7-0 to Mac by my count

Yeep, Mac takes it in fashion.

Not near a pc so next battle may take a while :)

    I'm going with Macgyver,

Same reasons as above really :D

I'm with Bourne all the way here. Any person who can improvise so effectively in a fight scenario that a book, a biro and rolled up newspaper become a lethal weapon has to be well worth sticking with.

Survivor man might have skills, but not in as many situations - I want to be ready for everything.

This has been the toughest decision yet for me. I wish I could chose them both. :(

Both men are efficient problem solvers. Both remain calm in stressful situations. Both use what's around them to improvise when needed. Both can evade an enemy - one of my fave episodes of Survivorman was when Stroud was stalked by that jaguar. Also, Stroud has an extensive food storage, freezers of meat that he's hunted or caught and prepared himself as well as dried goods. But as far as I've read, Stroud, while a highly regarded survival expert, has no fighting skills whatsoever. He can use a rifle, he carries a knife, and he can fashion weapons and traps to catch food, but he's a musician, not a fighter. While Bourne not only has excellent hand to hand, he's proficient with weapons and vehicles - he's trained to fight and to survive, though as far as I can find, not to the extent that Stroud is.

So it comes down to, do I want someone at my back who can fight and survive to an extent? Or someone who can survive for a long time?

I'm going to go with Survivorman, because there will come a point when you've nothing left to fight (hopefully) and you'll need to start surviving, living.

+1 Survivor man, same reasoning as last time

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,559 ✭✭✭Daisy M

Well it was bourne until I was swayed by chases sound reasoning so its survivor man for me too!!

  • Registered Users Posts: 746 ✭✭✭ladypip

Survivor man, Like chase said we will need someone who can hunt, kill, store and survive nature as well as the enemy. Borne Pah iI dislike him for irrational reasons so id go with anyone over him.

  • Registered Users Posts: 10,737 ✭✭✭✭degrassinoel

Hmm, i've still not seen survivorman, so i'm gonna stick with bourne..

    Jason Bourne

  • Registered Users Posts: 44,080 ✭✭✭✭Micky Dolenz

    4-2 to Survivor Man

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

I think Bourne has enough basic military survival skills to get him through. What Bourne also has is the ability to be very unfriendly to people and get what he wants. I don't think anything other than military training could prepare a person for that kind of blind panic and shear desperation. So I'd give the edge to Borne.

I going with the Survivorman for the same reasons as last round.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,674 ✭✭✭Peetrik

Almost too close to call for me. Stroud is the real deal and has some serious skills but as Kash said about Bourne with weapons, what an all Alpha, I would and I'm not.

Bourne takes my vote for this one just because I secretly entertain the fantasy of suddenly being able to speak Chinese and realise I'm a sleeper agent and a ninja like Bourne.
