Hope they will be quicker updating whatever version of Android it uses than on their older phones for example, HTC tend to priorities sales rather than software updates

Looks like a worthy successor to my Desire HD.

Im also looking to upgrade my Desire HD. I am out of contract now with meteor so lets see who is selling it.

Looks like a worthy replacement to the venerable original HTC Desire. If the S3 doesn't have any major tricks up its sleeve, i'll be getting this the minute it comes out.

Yep, seems like the job to replace the Desire HD :)

They're still going for the guts of 200 quid on adverts which is good news if you're looking to sell..

Looks amazing but there are 3 different versions....

    One X - Flagship

    One S - ?

    One V - Value model

The One X is the phone to go for tho with a 4.7" screen, Quad core 1.5ghz cpu, 8 MP back and 1.3 MP front facing camera, HTC Sense 4.0 running on ICS, SD card slot and 1GB internal ram.

    Want it NOW :)

The price you pay for having sense UI (which I don't like)

Mightn't be to your liking but its certainly not shíte. In my opinion its the nicest interface of any Android phone. Cant wait to see ICS with Sense 4. Anyway thats for another thread. The HTC One looks great. That is some amount of processing power for a phone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,390 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

I would very much like one of these. Alas I am rocking a Sensation that I got last summer, so it's not even a year into it's 18 month contract. Ah well, I'll have to make do with (hopefully) ROMs for sensation based on Sense 4.0...

Does look like HTC are getting back to amazing looking phones, if they stick with these 3 or 4 phones as their entire lineup, that'd be cool...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,860 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

really hope Meteor get this - and not just the S or V (like they haven't got the Sensation XE).

Really like the look of the phone and the new HTC Sense features so would love to get this in a month or so.

Having said that, the Samsung Galaxy S 3 could blow it out of the water in a few weeks, so it will be interesting to see what happens there. As long as Meteor stock one of them I'll be happy enough I reckon

really looking forward to the One X. It looks like a nice piece of kit. The hardware spec looks great.

Sorry thats true, I simply don't like it is what I meant, calling it ****e was a bit strong.

imo a 4.7' screen is just too big, 4.3' is pushing it ffs. im on a 3.7' desire S now and that was a reluctant jump in screen size from the hero. im not too sure about the lack of microSD either. anyway, they all look very nice and being htc they will be rock solid hardware-wise (couldn't give a flying barry about sense, i would root immediately but it's good to see they finally ditched the crap dock buttons)

This thread is making me very happy... My 18 month Contract with Meteor is up in 6 weeks, and I am looking to upgrade from the HTC Desire. Everyone has been trying to convince me to wait for the Galaxy S3, but I now that I have seen the HTC One X, my mind has been made up. I love Sense, And will be very glad to stick with it. Anyone have any idea where I can find out the date that Meteor will launch this? And I know I am speaking as though Meteor carrying the One X is a given, but that's because I am an optimist!

I think that Sense is one of the worst - if not the worst - example of Android customization out there. When Android launched there was definitely a need for Sense and it was a definite improvement over stock, but by 3.0 it just became a bloated mess, with extraneous animations and imho ugly design. It's telling that HTC have finally started listening to the criticisms and have seriously toned down the UI, getting rid of some of the more pointless animations. It's a step in the right direction, but still I'd like to see Google enforce their own style guidelines or at least give the user the option to boot into vanilla or custom Android when they buy the phone.

I do like the look of the X and the phone looks like a beast in terms of spec, but it's disappointing that it's still pretty much sporting the same design language they've used for two years now.

Also Vodafone did not get to sell the Sensation XE or XL.

Anyway I have registered my interest with Vodafone. Cannot wait :o

Ive been holding off to upgrade my Desire HD and Im very glad I did now. Cannot wait for the One X now.

Also some of us love the Sence UI... Sence 4 is welcome on my new phone. Adds a nice finish to Android over other devices like my wife's Galaxy S.

Three.ie better get the One X on their network or Ill be buying one out of contract. "All you can eat data" is a must!!

Aye but they had the original Sensation as a 3 month exclusive, the XE and XL being a bit meh tbh imo. They also had the Galaxy Nexus exclusively as well as the Nokia Lumia 800.

Lovely looking phone. Looks really powerful and so light and thin.
Just wondering if i need a phone with a screen that big. Are these phones unwieldy.
Also does this have NFC in it, anyone know?
And could Tescomobile be doing it i wonder? :pac:

Theres a list of carriers who will have the HTC one series of phones on this page, take a look, there's 3 Irl, Meteor, Vodafone, O2, most if not all the big networks...

Think I have finally found an upgrade for my hero the One S for me :) the One X is nice but I don't think I need a phone with that big a screen and quad core in a phone id say a day tops battery life!!!
The One V is a nice little phone reminds me of the hero and legend but the screen seems to stick out of the body which is a little odd!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,710 ✭✭✭✭Skerries

it mentions that it does have a NFC chip for Google wallet in that review above

so will the summer come down to the S 3 and this or are there any other contenders out there?

HW specs on the 1X are looking a little weak on paper compared to what's being touted for the S3.

I know the amount of quoted Megapixels doesn't necessarily guarantee anything...but clinging to 8MP on an apparently high end phone these days is pretty weak.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,258 ✭✭✭digiman

I wonder will it have LTE, nothing mentioned in the UK specs, hopefully the Australian version will have.

I have a Canon 1D MkIII camera that was over €4K when new a few years ago and it's a 10MP camera so I would imagine 8MP is more than plenty on a phone :)

The Us version of the ONEx does have LTE, but a dual core processor, UK & Ireland versions will have quad core and HSPA+. Not sure about Australia, is there an LTE network?

Im more interested in the ONEs, it looks to be a cracking looking phone with great specs and a good size screen. The x would be too big for me, 3.7" is my ideal, certainly no more than 4.0".

Best camera i've owned on a phone yet was 5MP. Rather modest by today's standards.........but like i said, on paper. Regardless of if the S3 is actually a superior phone or not.....i suspect it's going to be another good year for Samsung, and a not-so-good one for HTC.

I disagree, I think this will be HTC's year, they beat the original Galaxy S by being first to marlket with the Desire, they have a good chance of seeing off the Galaxy S3 by being a few months earlier to market with an exceptional handset.

Note how HTC didn't announce a tablet at MWC, they know atm there's not a market for a non iOS tablet, whereas Samsung are releasing a bigger, fatter Galaxy Tab.

The unified One brand is a great idea, in 2011 HTC got too fragmented with a highly complex mix of XL, XE etc. which were all essentially sensations.

Disagree too!! The MP count is only a part of what makes a good camera. The camera in the OneX has been tipped as ground breaking tech. The f-2.0 lens with a backside illuminated sensor produces amazing pictures in any light conditions. Put side by side with an iPhone4S the OneX is alot better. HTC have also put huge work into the camera software. First pic in 0.7sec from unlock and 0.2sec continuous shots. The One can even take stills while recording video without any delay to the video short. The camera is a serious piece of tech.

Other points to note, The OneX does support 4G, Bluetooth 4, NFC and Wireless HDMI via adapter or DLNA TV. Beats audio built in (not sure if Beats headphone included like SensationXE & XL...fingers crossed).

Samsung and Apple have their work cut out with the OneX:D

Yeah, Telstra have a 4G network over here, pretty amazing I have to say. Tested out the HTC Velocity the other day and it was 45Mbs download, 30Mbs upload and a ping time of only 35ms which is amazing for a mobile phone. I will most likely get the S3 provided it has LTE but the OneX does look pretty good as well I have to say.

I did allude to that briefly in post 38. Nor, i think, did i actually state that HTC are going to produce models that are inferior to Samsung's offerings...but like i said, "on paper" what's been touted for the S3 still LOOKS better, and i'm wondering if that's enough to influence the decision many potential purchasers will make.

There are a few ifs and buts being thrown around on the S3 mind you.... some of the rumors going round are less than credible to boot. Still, i'm not convinced HTC have this year secured at all. I'm not anti-HTC, but i do think they've been languishing a bit the last year.

Could be a problem alright. Am I the only one who doesn't get the apeal of superthin phones. I don't need my phoe to be 9mm thin. Make it 13-15mm and give me a decent battery.

Real shame there's no micro sd slot in this phone. That will put me off.

As with most big screen smartphones the battery is always the concern. The quad-core is said to be much less power hungry. As nothing was mentioned about battery life with most of the phones at MWC then you can bet there is no massive improvment. Only time will tell.

I got the opertunity to upgrade an Android 2.3 tablet to Android 4.0.3 yesterday. Can I just confirm ICE CREAM SANDWICH is very cool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,035 ✭✭✭nedd

the lack of sd card slot would only put me off if the internal memory was 16GB (or smaller). At 32GB the One X should be OK.

I do wonder why they are doing this though, I moved from a Desire to a Desire S and brought my SD card with me. This meant that all of my data came with me. It was a totally seamless move.
