Fellas buyin' drinks for young wans

Is it commonplace for guys to buy drinks for girls in nightclubs? I don't mean a fella buying drinks for his girlfriend but for guys to buy a girl drinks pretty much as his introduction to her (in the hope of taking her home obviously).
Does this happen to the extent that the girl would just arrive in the nightclub and not have to touch her purse once because of all the guys buying drinks for her?

Maybe it makes me social retard asking this but I'm not into nightclubs. I like gigs and pubs but if I end up in a nightclub I'm usually too hammered to notice what's going on around me anyway.
My girlfriend(soon to be ex) tells me she goes out to the nightclub and guys just buy her drinks. She doesn't flirt with them, she doesn't give them the shift, they just see her and buy her a drink in the hopes of getting somewhere with her but she just takes their drink and doesn't give them any further courtesy except maybe a chat. And this happens all night long and she and her friends don't have to spend a penny in the club. Sometimes their admission and taxi is paid for by some nice fellas.
To me that seems like a f**king massive pill to swallow and I'm not convinced. We've had plenty of fights about it but she sticks to that story.

I don't know about the rest of you but I don't buy drinks for women unless I've been chatting with them and it seems we're getting along. I don't just walk about with a WKD or vodka and coke and just hand it to the nearest good looking girl.

So... what do you club goers think?

Meh, any girl expecting a drink as an introduction isn't worth pursuing IMO.

Um, no. If I have been chatting to/scoring someone and they seem like an alright person and I have a good chance of doing the horizontal tango, I'll get them one. But I won't buy a girl I haven't talked to a drink, and I will generally be able to suss out if a girl is just looking for drinks.

Unless things have changed drastically in the last few years since I was in a proper club, her story is bull****. Unless she's doing a hell of a lot of flirting with these guys.

I think it's disgraceful that girls would just take free drinks from a guy and be on their way but on the other hand if the guys are silly enough to do it then the girls are gonna take advantage of that.
But I'm supposed to believe that my girlfriend gets all these free drinks from lovely charitable men who she's not flirthing with or kissing beforehand.

Never have myself but I have woman friends who would go out with €5 for one drink, then sponge the rest off what ever guys will buy it for them, no other intentions other than free drink.

It's very bad form for your girlfriend to be accepting drinks from guys when she's going out with you-She's not treating them with respect, and even worse she's not treating you with respect.

Drop her like a hot potato!

Personally I feel put off when a man wants to buy me a drink, I don't like the idea that he feels I owe him something.

I'm a feminist. I buy my own drink, talk to whoever I want, and don't feel indebted to any man :)

Sounds like your GF is a scabby bítch!!! It's happened to me a few times that girls have come up to me and started flirting and then ask me to buy them a drink. They all get the same response.... "Why would I buy you a drink if you came over to talk to me?" The look on their faces to be priceless!!!

But judging by most blokes I know there's no way in hell people are buying her drinks if she's not making it clear in the dudes head that he's gonna get somewhere!!

If a guy is stupid enough to buy girls drinks because they smile at him then he deserves to lose his cash.

No. First they buy her a drink, and then she drinks it, and then they slip their hands into her pants and drink of her like a bucket.

It's not totally uncommon for women to con men out of drinks, I've seen this, but taxi fare and night club entrance fees too? Off total randomers? Your girlfriend is full of **** OP.

No doubt there are guys out there who will fall for that ****, but there are not enough of them in the world for the OP's girlfriend to keep running into them.

I often ask women what they'd like to drink, when they tell me, I show em where their beverage of choice can be got and give them a rough idea of the costs involved. Its a great ice breaker.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,302 ✭✭✭JohnMearsheimer

I've never done that. If I'd been talking to a girl for a good while over the course of the night I'd offer to buy one.

Once a girl I'd never set eyes on before came up to me and demanded I buy her a drink, not even a please. Weird.

(AH Response: Your girlfriend IS buying her own drinks. By giving all the guys a quickie in the jacks.)

    Bollocks to the lot ye.

OP, I have on many occasion had drinks bought for me. I do not in anyway flirt, flutter my eye lashes or in any way insinuate that they will get lucky should they ply me with drink.

It usually happens after you get chatting for a bit. If I'm bought one, I offer the guy one back but 9 times out of 10 that offer is refused.

I will keep on chatting if it's someone I'm getting along with, and to avoid looking like a scabby bitch I will drop that I have a boyfriend as early into conversation so they know I'm not looking for anything extra.

So what if your girlfriend is having drinks for free? It doesn't mean she's doing anything for them.

If a fella wants to buy a girl a drink, where's the harm?! (So long as they know it's just a drink!)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 96 ✭✭Loanshark Blues

I can barely afford to buy drinks for myself. I'd give them a sip of my naggin though if they were sound.

His girlfriend maintains she doesn't have to spend any money on drinks. She's also on occasion getting her taxi fare and club entrance fees paid for. What's the harm? Well there's no harm done really, except the harm done to the easily manipulated fool's wallet.

This attitude really pisses me off. When someone I do not know offers to be me a drink I politely decline. I buy my own gargle, thanks. If they come back with one for me anyway (which is rare, since I've already said NO THANK YOU) I don't "offer" to buy them one back to give them the opportunity to refuse my offer, I just go up to the bar and get them one.

Even playing field and paying your own way ftw.

Unfortunately, I don't know every drink concoction by the look of it.. Hence asking...

And I should of clarified, if I'm straight up offered one, I would decline. If I'm at the bar, and someone buys it before I do, hey ho.

It's harmless IF it is an even playing field ie the guy knows that the girls not gonna get with him for a drink...

If someone wants to waste their money, let them at it.
