Isn't the one we're seeing at present an older model that the Queen's one?
They've got one 07 sport and the armoured 07 vogue.

The model before the current one, which is the one the queen was in, had three lines for the front indicators and maybe some other three line motifs. The Garda one looks similar but is an older model.

I'd say people said that about the i30's and i40's!

That will be another step backwards for traffic. From Land Cruisers to the Dmax and possibly these? Look at the UK and it's still the Range Rover or X5.

I reckon Hyundai will get any contract available for the forseable future given that they've already done deals with the Gardai, plus Hyundai is doing really well in Ireland atm so they'll be able to give massive discounts i'd imagine.

Have a feeling they actually wont.

I'd place my money on Ford having the next big tender.

Regarding the i30 and i40 are they really that bad ? What is it, handling ? Reliability ?

  • Registered Users Posts: 8,451 ✭✭✭CharlieCroker

The last 2 4wd's bought were Ford Rangers for the Wicklow mountains.

Hopefully it will be back to Ford, preferably the Mondeo. Better than anything else that's come along recently.

They are grand car for going to the shops in but not for 19 hour a day 3 different drivers policing

I40 has growing on me still not close to Mondeo

But i30 is woeful there reason that every regular unit that got i30 in 141 got replacement with i40 in 151

Having i30 on traffic is ridiculous and laughable can't even put anpr into it

Yes it would be look at the overall 4x4 purchasing 06/07 was the land cruiser some going strong still with the mileage is higher than the end life for the cars but 6 dmaxs purchase in 2011 nothing since, I could see traffic unit that needed a 4x4 getting on with Santa Fe motorway units will still need dmax which are suppose to be the budget for op Thor

I'm not sure that there are many Range Rovers for the UK police. They used to love them on the motorways as they could pull obstructions out of the way but that's now the Highways Agency who do all that sort of work. Motorway Police seem to exclusively use 5 Series estates. I think that Land Rover used to give free Range Rovers to some police units to test them.

There are definitely many x5s though.

West Yorkshire has few 2013s but BMW X5 way more popular in uk.

    BMW would be great here

The Thor budget is only for man power hours. Vehicles are due to be replaced and were in the pipeline before Thor. Can't see traffic getting the Santa Fe. Not a suitable vehicle for their needs.

The rumour about the new 151 to 152 estate model i was refering to being purchased for the Dublin gang unit.
The member that told would more than likely be them he mentioned The mets serious crime unit use them unmarked they're very effective but power wise id agree with you the q7 fits well.

The Q7's have been brought in early for RSU unit's shipped up to Dublin to assist in the armed checkpoints. Dublin won't get it's armed response unit until later this year.
