Since November 2014, the Garda Special Detective Unit have used a dark coloured 2013 Audi A6 (3.0L TDI QUATTRO SPORT LINE 242 BHP 4DR AUTO) to transport Enda Kenny, replacing his 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Special Detective Unit have nothing to do with the allocation of this vehicle. This is decided on by Liaison & Protection Gda H.Q. The vehicle is driven by protection officers from L&P. SDU provide and crew the follow car.

The Taoiseach's security detail always includes a follow car, currently an unmarked silver 2006 BMW 523I (2.5L petrol) AUTO E60. It has lights and sirens too.

Tánaiste Joan Burton is also transported in another 131 Audi A6 Sport 3.0L diesel (242 bhp) automatic, bought at the same time as Kenny's. The SDU brought this in following the Jobstown incident.

Again, the allocation of this A6 to the Tanaiste was nothing to do with SDU or the Jobstown incident. Her vehicle was due for replacement as the previous vehicle had come to the end of its road time. Your mixing your facts about this vehicle being bought at the same time as the Taoiseachs A6.

The Taoiseach it would seem has a new motor, saw him the other day in 141 BMW 7Series, it also looked armoured, the escort car was the Audi A6 rather than the usual BMW

    Correct , 141 7 series, 735i, but not armoured.

Someone posted this a while ago turns out it was nicked last night.

It was me who posted the original photo and there was speculation as to its use.

It turns out it is a home circumcision service.

Surely that's pushing it a bit as to who should be allowed to mark up as an Emergency Vehicle. I would imagine that it is done by appointment, and in the event of it going wrong, the patient won't welcome squeezing into a TT to get to the hospital.

Just because you are a medic it doesn't mean you need emergency markings!

Really cool fleet of bikes, love those BMW's. Any idea of how many of them AGS are getting?

'Private Ambulance' here means Undertakers corpse removal van, but see a 'Wicklow Rapid Response' Honda CRV using the bus lane every day on the N11 going to his work in Vincents.

That London Audi's had it's career cut short :P:P:P

    Hi,
Perhaps its been mentioned before but on my commute I've recently seen some 152 reg ambulances near the Mater hospital and they have some nuclear strobes on them, I mean they are so bright that in poor weather drivers seem kind of bedazzled by them. Am I the only one experiencing this, and noticing an effect on others also? Like I say perhaps its been discussed before, or maybe I need to don my shades!

No, I looked down at the reg away from the lights.
Will check next time, I've seen them every couple of days.

About 15 years ago I was in Shanghai and they had those LED/Strobes then , I thought at the time that we were so far behind :o

While we're on 'Health and Safety' 1) Could those lights cause an epileptic attack 2) The noise of the sirens could lead to 'hearing problem ' claims in the future - like the army deafness ones ???

I'm all for high visability / sirens considering some of the drivers/pedestrians being let out on the streets but this is 'Compo' Ireland we live in. !

But he is also a NAS asset so would he not have the same right to be in the bus lane as any other ambulance vehicle?

Probably the DFB ones. There's no missing them.

I'm gonna guess and say it belongs to the Gardai. The way the rear lights flash seems a bit to subtle for a fire officers car, I would have thought it'd need to be more noticiable for a fire officer. It seems like the light were added to allow the car to blend in as much as possible.

As previously stated, that Passat is a Dublin Fire Brigade vehicle and is usually driven by a Senior Fire Officer. I've a few pictures saved that I'll post later, they've a few different unmarked vehicles.

They are private vehicles I believe.

The other day I saw a newish dark coloured unmarked BMW 5 Series tearing down the N7 from the Red Cow towards Newlands Cross, interesting thing was it had red/blue lights on the sun visor (like below, drivers side I think), guessing it was Special Branch. No chance of a capture at that speed.

Another Special Branch BMW 5 Series (2007) spotted in Wicklow a few months ago...

Near sure it was this exact Beemer that stopped me yday and gave me a warning....never on a month of Sundays would I have suspected it was unmarked car. Some man in a suit was driving it, I suspect an undercover gaurd

I can predict fights breaking out about who gets to drive that Ranger :) what will it be used for? not just normal patrols?

This particular one has already been assigned to Roundwood in Wicklow, replacing their '06 Landcruiser

I don't know how many were bought though

That new ranger is a serious looking vehicle! :D I had seen the military police with these previously, wonder why they don't just put a joint order in for the Army & Gardaí? Surely a better discounted to be had when bulk ordering....

I'm sure they'll get the Fleet discount anyway, though compared with the Afghan Police the 'order' wouldn't be even a blip on Ford's radar https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0f/ANP_moving_in_vehicles_in_2010.jpg

There was an older 05 single cab model in Fitzgibbon st http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5101/5654676223_5d918c4801_m.jpg for carrying the Croke park crowd barriers, and the 'Mounties' have one to replace the Isuzu Trooper https://c2.staticflickr.com/6/5464/9224353822_121a3c23a3_b.jpg

I notice the Garda Rangers have alloys (luxury trim) compared with the Army basic trim so maybe the Garda ones are just white Rangers marked up compared with the Army special build in olive green

Maybe the Barrack Master / Brass were watching too much 'Garda down under' and decided to invest

I thought they were just wearing body armour on top, had to look again before I realised it's the same horrific shirt from the first pic.
