Yes it is. This is a common problem when purchasing a phone from a different market where Nokia music is not allowed.

Simple to fix, flash on an Irish Lumia firmware :)

I have the Meteor firmware, and I don't have Nokia Music. Granted, I didn't do a full market search, which I will do, but it's not in the Nokia section of the market for me.

Edit: Nope, no sign of it.

I've never had an Irish firmware installed on my Lumia, just a German one which had the Nokia music installed and the new Indian one which doesn't have the Nokia music pre installed. I had to side load it on.

Try a UK firmware or German one but it would be interesting to know if everyone else on an Irish firmware is having this problem?

How do you do this? Hard reset the phone?

First try searching the market place for Nokia Corporation, if it's not listed try a hard reset and see if it appears in your app list. If not then you'll have to flash on a firmware that has it pre-installed. To do that you'll need to download a couple of programs.

    NaviFirmEx:
    http://code.google.com/p/navifirmex/downloads/detail?name=NaviFirmEx_v1_6_1_en.zip&can=2&q=

This will allow you to download any of the firmware versions. I'd go for one of the 11501 firmwares - Country Varient either UK or Germany, they'll have the Nokia Music pre installed. You will also need Nokia Care Suite to install the firmware.

    Nokia Care Suite 5:
    http://www.seidea.com/2011/12/03/nokia-care-suite-5-0-2011-48-3-62879/

And here's a video tut to show you how to do it.

The firmware is already out a couple of weeks in other markets, a couple of us have it already installed.

The problem is if the current Irish firmware doesn't have Nokia Music included, the next firmware update unfortunatly won't have it included either.

    According to Nokia, it will.

It's not a link. I work in the industry and I asked the Nokia rep that I know. She said it's coming with the Meteor update in the next two weeks.

Very odd? I wondering if its just Meteor that doesn't have Nokia Music. You should ask her why its not in the market place for download?

Had my Lumia for 6 days! Full charge with low brightness, data connection turned off and one live tile, was expected to last 20 hours. Rang Nokia and a Lumia specialist made me run the diagnostic test. The expectancy was only 1335 mAh when it was supposed to be over the 1400 mark. She then told me that the phone had the latest update but the networks software over rode it somehow.

Took it back to network provider, they had it for 12 days and it came back with no error report.

Long story short, I now have an iPhone 4s. The Lumia was the only phone I wanted for a while. I loved it when I had it but could not live with the battery life and how I was treated in the store turned me off the network and the phone.

I hope anyone who has it enjoys it and I hope the battery problems are sorted soon. It is a cracking piece of kit and only good things can come from Nokia down the line.

    PS

Mine was black and it was gorgeous.

Thats a pitty. The lastest firmware has a big improvement on the battery life and sound quality. Good luck with the iPhone 4s

She said it was down to the marketplace region or something. I didn't really push into it, she just said that some people with different regions can see it but would be available to everyone in the next fortnight.

In this day and age I just don't understand why tech can't do what it's supposed to.

It was the first ROM out with the audio/battery fix.

No problem, at the moment there's only 5 version's of the latest firmware available to download but this should change over the next couple of weeks as more get released.

Of the 5 firmwares available the Indian one is the only one that is unbranded, they have 3, one for Black, Cyan and Magenta. The other 2 are for Vodafone New Zealand. You can install these but you're phone will become Vodafone branded and you will have a Vodafone boot up screen before the Nokia screen.

The problem with the Indian firmware is that it doesn't have the Nokia Music loaded so you have to side load it and they only way to do that on the Nokia is if you have a developer unlocked phone. Other than that its the same standard firmware.

I have an iPhone4 for a year and a half and looking to change. Seriously considering the Lumia. Had a quick play with one today. Beautiful phone but I found myself inadvertently clicking on the home screen tiles and other shortcuts when scrolling. Anyone else find it a bit sensitive?
How easy are they unlocked btw?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,089 ✭✭✭DjFlin

My Vodafone Lumia has Nokia Music on it.
I don't see what the fuss is, its not all that wonderful.

You get used to the sensitivity very quickly, its just that your used to a different phone at the moment.

You can only unlock the Lumia by purchasing a developer license which would cost you $99 dollars. You used to be able to unlock it for $9 dollars using chevron labs official unlock. They don't have any more keys for sale at the moment.

Chevron where the first to unlock the Windows Phone but microsoft called them for a meeting and asked them to make an official one as their one was bricking some phones.

    http://labs.chevronwp7.com

There's some developers/hackers working on getting an unlock for the second gen Windows Phones eg Lumia at the moment.

As I thought, looks like it was just the Meteor firmware that was missing the app but as Chris has said, nokia have confirmed it will be in the next release. :)

Their gonna be that sensitive on any phone with capacitive buttons. You get used to it.

In the start I used to accidentally press them a lot. Barely ever do now. They also updated the firmware to make sure if you swipe from the screen downwards and hit the buttons it doesn't count. So that saves a couple of presses too.

Got one of these Friday and it's not going too well.

The biggest pita is email. I have multiple accounts setup and working...sort of.
I need to add multiple servers to each account so I can send/receive when connected to various networks but can't find the option in settings to add more than 1. Could do it on the iPhone no problem.

Any solution of am I missing something obvious?
There's a few other annoyances as well, like GPS, recent contacts, menu layouts, lack of flash support in the IE browser, etc, but the email is the bigest problem.
    Ta

Try adding your email accounts using the Advanced option.

You didn't research the phone before getting it because? There's nothing wrong with GPS, recent contacts exist too and if you don't like the UI well windows phone isn't for you.

I Mean every part of windows phone is documented in videos online. Flash on phones is dying as ICS Is the last one to support it.

    Another keyboard warrior.
Thanks for you well thought out and useful reply.
I did plenty of research thanks. Please point me to a discussion or article somewhere online about not being able to add multiple servers. I'd be grateful.
Maybe it's just not the highend business phone it's made out to be.

The GPS seems to work ok for location services but it's poor or useless for one particular app I use often on the iPhone and it works perfect. I checked the app before getting the phone and it was available for WP7. It doesnt work as it should. It takes about 4 minutes to pick up and lock onto satellites (9 seconds on the iPhone) and unless the phone is held in hand at all times it loses lock. Could be app related but either way it doesn't work.

I know recent contacts exist. Thats the problem :P
I thought I'd avoid it by not adding a facebook account to the phone but not so. I don't want contacts I text showing in the list and the list can't be cleared.
I actually like the metro UI but the endless scrolling if you install alot of apps is a bit of a pain. These are things that no amount of research would highlight. Daily use does though. I didn't give the flash support much thought really but probably assumed IE9 would support it.
Having said all that it's a fantastic device to use and hold, looks well, great camera and screen size and quality is spot on. I'll probably keep it if I can get the email sorted.
