Was wondering this myself. There's no mention of it on MSB site or on the website of the St. Patrick's Festival which it has been part of for the past couple of years.

Would like to know in the near future. as I was planning it as a target race.

yep it's on this year. The 20th I think but I'll confirm this. Details should be going on msbac.ie soon.

MSB were waiting confirmation from sponsor. This was agreed this week and the race will go ahead Sunday 20th at 12 noon. Start/finish at Mansion House. Details regarding online entries will be announced next week.

Might give this a go to make up for chickening out of the Jingle Bells 5K.

    It's much easier!

What do people do with their pre-race gear at these races? Not sure how keen I would be travelling into town on the bus or Luas in my running tights etc.

There's usually a bag drop area - there was at this race last year. Usual caveat applies, don't leave any valuables in your bag.

Planning on giving this race a real lash all going well... :)

It's a good race with a good atmosphere. It's always nice running around the streets of Dublin and it's a very flat route.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,087 ✭✭✭BeepBeep67

I ran a race in Dublin on Paddy's Day in '96/'97 maybe, which started at the top of Dawson St then down Westmoreland, up O' Connell St around Parnel Sq and back - it was fantastic the streets were already filling up with people ready to watch the parade.
    Is it a similar route?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 301 ✭✭Pronator

    Hey Dom,

I ran this race last yr. Its starts on Dawson street and finishes on same. Similar to the route you outlined. If you want a 5k PB this is your event. Its as flat as it gets and there is a great buzz about the place.

Nearly as good as the Streets of Wicklow but without the "HILL"

2 weeks after Barcelona, we'll see if the legs wake up in time. :pac:

Yes, great race. Definitely going to do this again.

No, the route last year was all south of Dawson Street.

    Just found this on msbac.ie

    Our 5K Festival Road Race

    Written by Brian | 13 January 2011

This years race will take place on the 20th March in conjunction with the Dublin St. Patricks Festival weekend.
Details and online registration available soon.

PS: Do you get any kind of medal or anything for completing the race?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,704 ✭✭✭✭RayCun

No medal last year, there was a (cotton) t-shirt and goodie bag

Great goody bag and a t-shirt. Might need to break into the top 3 for a medal! And rightly so ;)

    Will this be chip timed?

Also its weird that they say on their website that registration and details will be available soon but if you look, there's a 5K registration link at the top that brings you to what looks like a real page to sign up.

They really should either take that down if it's not ready or change the information to say you can register.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,704 ✭✭✭✭RayCun

It was chip timed last year, probably will be again. That registration page looks like it works, but there's no harm in waiting a few days for them to update their site.

Registration seems to be open now. This is on their main page.

    Post the link to register?

25/30 mins is reasonable finishing time yeah? I've never attempted a race before... People show up in normal gym gear yeah? I don't own any proper running gear.
    :D

25-30 minutes is fine, normal gym gear is fine.
Here are some photos from last year's race - you can see there's all sorts.

Just registered for this one.. Was good fun last year, especially the Baily for a pint directly after...

21:20 in 2010, so hoping for 19:50 this year...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 881 ✭✭✭JosDel

Just entered this one, It's my first 5K race, My best time for 5K was 24:12 which I recorded for the first 5K of the Raheny Shamrocks 5m the year so I would be hoping to get under 24 minutes which would be brilliant....

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,121 ✭✭✭tang1

Signed up for this, hoping to beat my 5km pb of 20.50 from Bob Heffernan/Na Fianna 5km last year. Fingers crossed!!

We went to Carluccio's afterwards for lunch last year - it was great, several groups with runners there. I've asked them on their FB page if they'll do a deal for participants and they said they will see what they can do , so you might want to like their page if you fancy it.

I registered for this almost a month ago and in the email I received, it said race details would be sent on within 5 days. However I've not received anything.

Anyone else who registered and paid got details about this race yet from the organisers?

My mail said the same thing, but I haven't received anything else since.

There's not much more they need to send on, to be honest, just your race number. The route will probably be the same as last time, but they might need to get a final sign-off on the route and road closures?

You are probably right. However I was trying to find the time the thing is supposed to start at and it was then that I realised I hadn't received any more info.

According to the mail I got, we have to collect our race number from 9am on the day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,704 ✭✭✭✭RayCun

The race starts at noon. Number collection is open from 9am, and will probably stay open until about 11.30.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,723 ✭✭✭MisterDrak

Yep, did this race for last 3 years and nothing to worry about, Id say. Everything is well very organised. Number collection usually in the round room in the Mansion house, which is pretty cool. Pints in the Baily 100 yards from the finish line is cooler still... :)

Just entered this too, fancy a lash at my 5k PB [which since I have only run one 5k, has never been challenged, went onto longer distances right away].

I will make it a speed session before [or during?] a longer run or something, as thats only 2 weeks before connemara half, so I will need to do a long run that day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,704 ✭✭✭✭RayCun

Build up your miles in the next few weeks, but just race the 5k. If you go for it properly that will give your legs a good workout, a few slow miles afterwards won't give you much benefit.

hi hoping somebody will be kind enough to help an old man - I've tried to register for this race on the club web-site but I'm not sure I'm doing it right......once you fill in the initial registration details how do you pay or move onto the next screen or something......?!
(I fully appreciate this is probably a bit pathetic :o)
    many thanks
    LL

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 612 ✭✭✭runrabbit

you should be able to see a "Continue" button at the bottom right - just under the "Enter Club" field?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,199 ✭✭✭G-Money

I mailed them and they said the details should be sent out around the 1st of March. They said the race numbers would be sent out then but I guess we still have to go pick up the actual number on paper and stuff on the day.

Thanks ! The "continue" button doesnt appear on my screen for some reason but I have managed to progress to the next screen by just clicking randomly on the space.
Next problem is I cant see the "continue" button on the next screen to go forward to Paypal - anyone able to help me out by telling me where on the 2confirm your registration" page the "continue" button is ??
    Thanks again

it's below and to the right of "Add Club" (directly below "Add Club" is a "go back" option).

If you try on a different browser you might have more luck?
