cork calling. are we actually going to get snow

Hello Cork, your call is very important to us and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. Please hold while we put you through to a boards.ie user...

Hello. Cork will probably get some sleet initially, and quickly turn to rain. Not a chance of some heavy snow there unless the forecast changes dramatically

I reckon Limerick right up to Dublin is right on the verge of this forecast. New models are coming up now, so we'll see soon what the story is

I wonder if this will be like last March, rain in Kilkenny city, blizzards on the hills. Well, blizzards only if it is windy
Would higher ground like the Castlecomer plateau hold onto the snow?

You're probably one of the most likely people to see snow in the south of the country i'd say . ..not that you want it!!!

I other news, jean byrnes latest dress is going down very well over on After Hours . . .

Met Eireann warning on the radio for snow in the North and West tonight, with more widespread showers tomorrow. They still sound confident for Friday.

IMO Saturday has been upgraded and look far more positive for widespread snow. The Dublin/Galway line still exists, but further north looks excellent for more prolonged snowfall than initially forecast

Cherryghost... how do you mean the Dublin/Galway line? Do you mean Galway has a better chance or Dublin??

why oh why couldn't we have Fiday's setup during the December cold spells:mad:

in these situations the upper warmer air has a tendency to do its worse quicker than forecasted.
so this is more than likely going to be a brief snow to rain event everywhere lower down. it would be great if this system stalled around the center of the country before eventually clearing away eastwards, but is that really likely considering there is no entrenched severe cold ahead of it?

Imagine a line on a map between dub and galway, north of that is best placed for snow. I think thats what is meant anyways

I have to drive from Galway to Drogheda (M6, M50 & M1) on Sat morning. Am not a confident driver so wondering how bad this is likely to be ?

My folks live in Cavan. Record low in the village next to them and they always get the best snow. NOT FAIR

Stay on the right side of the line and you should be ok :D

I think the left side might be a lot safer don't you?

Yes i agree as i live 6 mile's from Ballyhaise. This system pushing up on Friday is usually perfect for these parts, but I,m a bit skeptical this time if we will see prolonged snow. I feel the polar air needs to be kicking in pretty quickly or you can say goodnight Irene!

On Monday night the Temperature was 0c DP -4 and guess what! it rained. Maybe it had to do with the westerly.

Oh well, if this line from Dublin to Gaalway comes through, Im going miss out by not a huge distance in meteological terms.

Hoping for a nice upgrade! :)

On radio 1 there a couple of minutes ago, Met Eireann are saying rain and sleet, snow for upland areas.

Even though they are tasty, those charts were atrocious during the breakdown afer Christmas, with huge snowfalls for Britain where it rained.

Maybe this can be it's time to shine again? :P:P

Yeah they did struggle that time, hopefully as you say it was just a blip. Although, Snowbie, who is usully on the ball about these things, thinks there will only be wet snow for a time in the midlands and north west, but rain and sleet at lower levels everywhere else.

Didn't see her, but going on past trends i'm surprised rte haven't had a word.
Then again I suppose it boosts ratings so they pbly delighted.

I wish they brought back Nulty, eagle and ger scully. At least they gave a proper forecast without the silly trimmings

Jean was giving a snow to rain event, though she said things are uncertain. The dress she was wearing was black with flesh coloured bits on it that made it look like she was revealing a lot more flesh than she actually was.

She has us watching the weather and the fashion :pac:

So is the chance of snow in south / south-east better today than yesterday , from what im hearing today friday snow is predicted to come from the west

For Waterford the chances are small. Conditions are not right for us to get snow in this type of scenario. If you like snow don't get your hopes up. Starting as sleet at first i think and then rain and lots of it.

So where will the snow be then if forecasts say their will be across the south , i know we are a coastal county does it mean snow will fall inland further  i get so confused with all the forecasts saying south east but meaning south west or vica-versa  :D

The east and south-east looks like they're in for a chance for saturday, not Friday, when the front gets pushed eastwards from a cold push back
