two injectors went on me xmas 2010 so i replaced both bought one in the uk from a garage that had a spare one and the other here in ireland off the local vw dealer, that was grand they all worked fine but was out of pocket almost £2000, so last week rang up the dealer looking for a paint stick for a few touch up marks and they said the car was needed for a recall on the 4 injectors to be repkaced. so booked in for this morning to get the two other ones replaced that were ok at the time, they will refund me for the injector bought through them but will not refund me for the one that was bought in the uk or even replace it as i dont have a genuine recpit for it even though they fitted both for me at the time there now saying the one i bought in the uk is a suprourious injector even though at the time they said i couldnt get one that it had to be a genuine part, i think its wrong and i should be refunded for both instead of one!!!

I think you should be thankful that you are getting the other two done and also getting a refund for he one you bought from the dealer here. The recall was after you bought the injector so I would call yourself lucky.

Problems withe 1.9 engines are and far between, in some people's opinion it was one of the most trouble free diesels they had. However the 2.0 Tdi engine wasn't a great engine with a lot of trouble and a major problem was the injectors where due to a documented design flaw meant a lot of them failed, VW had to issue a recall as cars were cutting out while overtaking etc.

I've never heard of many injector failures on the 1.9 Tdi engines so I presume VW wouldn't have had much problems withy them either, whereas tfh 2.0 tdi is famous for it. Unfortunately things wear out and need replacing, if manufacturers started covering all parts that wore out, well they would go bankrupt fairly quickly.

Your best bet is to try find out what actually caused the injector to fail and contact VW to see if they'll give you some goodwill cover. But having being around the motor industry a long time goodwill will be very hard to come by on a nearly 6 year old car, the one and only time I saw goodwill like that they wanted to see a fully documented dealer service history and even thrn try were under no obligation to cover it ( wasn't injectors by the way ) Injectors tend to fail due to bad diesel, water in diesel etc. good luck trying to pin that on the manufacturer.
