I think an hour long show featuring just the sound of the heavies from Operation Transformation being smacked on the arse with a hurley would be more interesting.

    How original.
A whole show about people and their love stories and stuff......

I'd say this guys kids were delighted he called for a stranger of a woman when he was on his death bed!

Live marriage proposal followed dead air, followed by a totally underwhelmed John Murray.

This is truly awful radio. :(

I woke up to the "Mr&Mrs" quiz - it was EXCRUCIATING

Never dived for the remote as quick to switch to Lyric, where Marty was banging on about love and playing slushy muzak.

Slightly O/T but not all of us are loved up, and want to hear mushy wushy love stories all day long - SO'R is on now and I'm hoping that a bit of peace might reign in his domain.

I'm already in fear of what Liveline will bring later......

The State Broadcaster is, once again, a f**king embarrassment this morning. John Murray's team leaves him down badly with ill-prepared, poorly excuted Valentine's manure.
In the same hour on Lyric, M. Whelan is reading out of Valentine's limericks from his loyal tribe and playing the All Time Greatest Crooner love songs.
I couldn't bring myself to switch to Tubrity on 2FM.

It seems like there's no-one in control when this type of schlock can be on multiple state owned networks at the same time.
All paid for by you and me, buddy.

Heard bits in the background this morning. Something about dieting and K Thomas shrieking around the place. Who is remotely interested in this nonsense. Who cares if someone loses weight? This must be past its sell by date. It is all yesterday's news.

And on top of that, today's show was a complete shambles technically. A good portion of it was broadcast over their smart phones because the mics went down. Appalling radio.

They should just buy that guy a one way ticket to his Utopia..

I wonder do any of Murray's staff ever feel like walking in to the studio and shouting... "Just shut up... just SHUT.. the fcuk UP"...

    Cos I do..

Rte won't be able to drop him for a couple of years as they'll be accused of all sorts of prejudice given his recent health problems , so were stuck with the fake laugh and these awful intros in the morning

Move him to 7am on sunday mornings, nobody is up at that time ;)

That ad for the show really sums it up..

Fat person: "My breathing has really improved as well John."
John Murray: "Yeah you're breeding is great, you have five kids.. "...
    *everybody groans*

Have to say the 9am-10am on Newstalk beats the hell out of Murray and Tubridy... Again the only problem is that Newstalk reception is patchy... though I see a thread with "new" frequencies so my days of listening to Murray may be over.

Lets try and keep this topic about the show and not about the personal situation of the presenter please. There's no need for it and it won't be tolerated

    You would be surprised!!

Cathal Murray is excellent in that slot.

In fact, I would go so far as to say he is wasted there at that time.

They should get rid of Shay Byrne and replace him with Cathal Murray on Risin Time. Byrne is almost as smug as Fionn Davenport.

Thanks for the tip. I will probably never follow it up. ;)

I don't mind JM at 9. He speaks well and his attempts at humour are usually amusing enough.

Having said that I found todays attempt to spin the insomnia story was a bit daft. John, like Paul Williams obviously doesn't have a clue about mobile networks. Maybe they are they mates with Shatter.

    Couldn't agree more!
Smugness personified, but maybe a new thread beckons....!:pac:

David Corkery was the latest in a seriously long line of misery porn peddlers. I get depressed too and more awareness is great but Jesus Christ, this celebrity depression thing is getting seriously worn out.

Why can't RTÉ just consolidate all of the misery radio and telvision into a giant weekly podcast?

Why not distill it all down to a weekly panel show where Tubridy, Miriam O' Callaghan, Joe Duffy and Murray compete to find the most unfortunate fúcker in the country?
They should get rid of Shay Byrne and replace him with Cathal Murray on Risin Time. Byrne is almost as smug as Fionn Davenport.

Both pale in comparison to Phillip Boucher Hayes, the smuggest of them all!

Gawd, that is some caterwauling he has on this morning

What's his obsession with Daithi O'Sé('s wife) having a baby soon

Is john just going to play a load of YouTube clips without the video and then do a fake laugh after each of them as his intro for ever ....get rid of the intro ffs

Oops. You, I, most of the contributors to this thread, and I would estimate 90% of RTE ones listeners realise that.

Unfortunately the producer of the JMS, RTE,John himself still haven't seen the light .

    Hey schidt happens man.

I cant believe they've managed to do it, but they have actually managed to find people who are less funny than Murray himself..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,657 ✭✭✭CountyHurler

Now that they have run out of fat people to weigh, they dont really know what to do with the show... Nothing they have tried in that slot works, they should just make Morning Ireland an hour longer. It might be a bit repetitive, but it couldnt be worse than the current offering.

The "off" switch is very useful after Morning Ireland .

The 5 second rule is usually what I employ to Murray himself..... For yet another morning they dont really have anything to talk about.. Gonna see what the reception is like on NT this morning but it's usually crap.

That 5-second rule article was, even by the usual standards of the JM show, the stupidest radio I have heard in a very long time. I almost went to the calendar to check that it wasn't April 1st.

I now officially give up, for ever, on that show

Please let me know on this thread if anything changes - I won't be holding my breath though.
