I was born and raised in Dublin but had country parents I moved out of Dublin to Leixlip best move I ever made, Dubs can be a bit unfriendly I think it something to do with all the traffic but try find some friends and go out to places where people you know go to and you will get used to it I promise I love Dublin but prefer Leixlip as I have both Dublin and country people out here and it feel more friendlier and only half an hour by train into the city good luck

I really link Dublin as a city. It's very pretty in the sun- especially the docklands/IFSC. I laos think most people are pretty friendly. Pity about all the alcos/junkies/otherwise rough people about- but a lot of the time if you don't look like a victim you'll be left alone, I've not had much trouble.

I like Dublin but I wouldn't live there, too much traffic for my liking.

I don't understand why, in a thread about Dublin, the 1st response is an attack on Cork? Can't Dubs defend their own county without putting down others?

I totally agree, just be careful, hold your head up high, hold your handbag up under ur arm, do not let it out of your sight and look confident and do not get distracted otherwise you will get used to it and enjoy Dublin. good luck but you will not need it.

I'm living in Dublin 12 years now, its not too bad, a lot depends on where you live, if its easy to get to the city centre or to the local night life/amenities etc.

If you have a decent group of mates then its a great place to socialise in, always lots to see and do, but if you're new here and don't know a lot of people, Dublin can be a very lonely place. Then again, the same can be said for most major cities.

Granted, the whole junkies/drunks hanging around in big groups can be a bit off putting and its not the cleanest place but I haven't had any real hassle here in 12 years.

"Stupid post. Free museums and galleries, 3 Euro pints, all you can eat for 8euro, the supermarkets are the exact same prices all over the country, Asian markets are abundant selling very very cheap produce, Asian eateries for half nothing, beaches, parks, loads of free entertainment happening at the weekends.

RainbowRose, you seem to have a problem with where you are living, you should just move out of Dublin, you think the people are stupid, you hate the accent, you obviously haven't bothered to get to know the city and don't seem to be interested in knowing it" Posted by John_Rambo

Well my post isn't stupid, its realistic. Well Thats a great thing about dublin there are some museums and galleries that have free addmission. The all you eat thing for 8 euro, I havn't heard of that at all. What markets are here, there is very few markets where you get value for money. You mean food markets, well yea there are a good few of them that are alot less expensive than the supermarkets. Most of the asian eateries are chinese, Im not a big fan of chinese food, i perfer indian. There not many indian, japanese and korean etc food places here so i dont know how you think there are alot of asian places to eat here. Well at least there is different places to eat here anyways. Well there are a very few clean beaches kiliney and dalkey but the price of the public transport to get there and back is high. There is a few good things about dublin, the older people here in general are approcable, easy going and friendily with a good sense of humour. Yea some of the parks are nice, stephens green is peaceful has alot of flowers and trees, there is seats to sit which is good. The phoenix park is very good too but thats outside the city. Its really terrible that they don't have a necessary thing like seats for people to sit in the city centre like for old people or pregnant women, tourists or people you need to have a break except the board walk, where you don't feel secure at times with people in crowds drinking there and sometimes fighting. Well the free entertainment well thats so the people will go to their pub and stay all night and drink and we all know how expensive alcohol is. Shopping in dublin is horrible, poor customer care and service in general especailly in supermarkets!, and the security gaurds singling you out and not others for no reason and following you around the shop, looking at you. The only time i go shopping for clothes in town is early in the morning when there is not much crowds and only when its necessary like when my trainers might be fallen apart and i have to put up with intimitation from security gaurds at times because i seem different or look different or they don't like the look of me I don't know. Well there is a few things baout dublin that are good, you just have to make the most of it, it could be alot worse.

Go home to your village if you cant handle the realities of city life

Give him a break, he didn't say he has ALWAYS hated it.

And who's to say he comes from a village. Dublin isn't the only city/town in Ireland.

The all you eat thing for 8 euro, I havn't heard of that at all.

    Epicurean food hall amongst others.
There not many indian, japanese and korean etc food places here so i dont know how you think there are alot of asian places to eat here.

There are. Try Alilang Korean Restaurant on Parnell st. It's one of the many many many Asian places in Dublin in that area, the Hop House on the same street does excellent Japanese sushi and Korean food, very cheap, massive jugs of beer for 12 Euro.
Its really terrible that they don't have a necessary thing like seats for people to sit in the city centre

    They do.
Well the free entertainment well thats so the people will go to their pub and stay all night and drink

Extreme sports photography exhibition on now in Trinity. Free. Check out freefun.ie

I don't find this to be the case.

With the exception of the financial sector, where they are world beaters, the rest is residual from another age.

What about its artistic stature - top 5 in the world, probably.

They say that crime is far more likely to happen in Dublin than anywhere else in Ireland... Well you know what, so is everything else! Including sex, coffee, and conversation.

i think dublin is a nice city
i sometimes hate the attitude of some dublin people
they are very quick to point out flaws with other area's of the country
however when you point out flaws about dublin, boy do the get defensive.
akin to a bully i think

It's a really nice city in parts. I had a Kiwi girl over staying with me last weekend and I showed her around and she loved it. But I made sure I didn't bring her anywhere near junkieville (i.e. the whole of the north inner city), because that area just makes me feel ashamed of the city these days with all the pyjamas and heroin addicts.
It's the only thing even approaching being a real city in Ireland, it obviously has more going on than anywhere else in the country, so I don't know why culchies hate on it and us so much.
I was in Galway a few months ago, a town culchies seem to think wipes the floor with everywhere else in Ireland for the "craic" etc. I thought it was a bit of a kip. That Eyre Square is ugly, and apart from that all it seemed to have was one or two temple-bar type streets. Totally overrated.

Perhaps its because you call them "culchies"...

I live about an hour and a half's drive from Dublin city and that suits me grand. I'm not a big fan of the hustle and bustle of actually living in a city, but I enjoy the handiness of just a short drive to get to some decent shopping and entertainment. I've had many a great weekend out in Dublin with good friends, just need to keep your wits about you as you would anywhere else.

    Hello,

I have been living in dublin for 3 years now. It could be alot worse than other cities, Im here for college it has a few good colleges and that but living here gets on my last nerve sometimes i lose patience at times. Im thinking is there anyone else who hates living in dublin and reasons why? im sure there are. I would appreciate you sharing your thoughts, feelings and opinions. Thank you

    Why would you hate Dublin?

Do you think it's too big and uncaring? Try London or New York.

Too parochial? Try Waterford or Galway

    It's what you makeof it.

No, there is nothing worth hating about Dublin.

Unfortunately Ireland has a fair number of gob****es and scumbags, but it seems the distribution of said waste is fair amongst the country as a whole.

Great architecture, History, interesting things going on. Whats not to like?

Life has its fair share of scumbags. I dont think Darndale is any worse than Compton. Walk around Bogota with your wallet tucked into your tourist shorts and come back to me with horror tales of Dublin.

I think we're on the same page. i.e.Dublin = not so bad. Call off the Perry Mason attack dogs. I rest some sort of case.
