    Probably none. :D

I suppose it depends on what subjects you're doing so. I know for subjects like English and Psychology, they only talk about the course for the first week, what books to get, what they'll cover etc.

Obviously your maths lecture wants to start straight away. I didn't get any emails off my maths studies lecturers anyway. :)

Presume its still Tom Carroll for Maths studies MS1001, its all notes that you take down from the board

Log into sit.ucc.ie, and go into your student administration and go into registration amendments to make the change, make sure you save it though!

    Some FAQs:

Q: Is it true that if you walk across the grass on the main quad you fail all of your exams?

A: Yes, this is true. It is common in competitive courses for students to deliberately push rival students on to the grass for this reason.

Q:Is it true that if a girl walks over the crest in the main entrance they will get preganant?

A: Unfortuantely, this is also true. Many young ladies are forced to drop out of their courses after carelessly stumbling over this sacred emblem

Q: Is it ok to ask questions during lectures?

No, only mature students are allowed to ask the lecturer questions.

Q: Some of my classes are in the O'Rahilly Building, can you tell me where this room is please?

No. Nobody can help you find a room in the ORB. Many rooms disappear and reappear erratically ala the "Room of Requirement" in Harry Potter.

The library sinks inches a year. Don't play with the books and be careful handling them as you don't want it to fall much more than it is. Also, on the library topic, don't talk, or that's a-paddlin'.

There's a ghost of an English student wandering the ORB. He was late for a tutorial there and promptly died from starvation, thirst and severe disorientation. You can still hear him often.

If a man walks across the crest, he too gets instantaneously pregnant.

Don't walk on the grass, I was told there was a sniper up top, but I'm not sure about that.

If you stand in the middle of the amphitheatre, which is near the Honan chapel, and talk, the whole campus will hear you.

There's a nuclear reactor in the Kane building, and said building won an architecture award. Which leads me to believe, the judging panel really should have gone to specsavers.

The Windle building has ghosts and dead bodies a-plenty.

Don't walk on the red tiles when it's raining, they've removed some but there's some suspicious tiles there. I've heard a many a Ugg boot wearing Arts/Business student collapsing on her arse 'cos it was too wet.

Absolutely go to a Boards meetup, you'll meet some of the finest people on the campus, and in life.

Damn straight. One nearly fell on me as I was rushing up the stairs coming from WGB last year! ;)

I walked across the grass in my first week and went on to repeat first year. Coincidence? I think not!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,500 ✭✭✭ReacherCreature

I walked on the gravel bit in between the grass, and failed French that year. But I think that's more down to terrible subject choice and me being appalling at the subject...still, something there.

We are to register online for the first part, how and when?

I know that we do the second part of the registration on the day of the orientation, I am doing the Environmental and Earth System sciences course so I believe it's the 13th.

    Thanks :)

If I remember correctly you'll get another letter with an SIT(Student IT) login and this will then give you instructions of how and when to register.

So you can relax till then :pac:

I graduated from Computer Science last year. It's a good course, more so now than ever because it's placed within an industry where jobs are still plentiful.

As for content, I wouldn't be of much use to you because the syllabus changes every couple of years so most of what you'll be doing, I wouldn't have come across and vice-versa.

What I would say is keep on top of the work. You'll have lots of continuous assessments (assignments) which combined are worth a nice bit of marks come end of year and make the exams that much less stressfull. Also, your year will be assigned to a computer lab. Try and embrace this room as you'll be spending quite a bit of time there and the more comfortable you are with spending long periods of time there the more productive you will be
