My account expires in January, I think. Doesn't seem to say anymore on the site, though.

Just sent them an email saying I wanted to cancel. May go with Hotfile.

Do go with hotfile, €46 for the year and no daily download limit. Plus every site seems to be hotfile first choice.

With Rapidshare I usually have ~350 KB/s, will hotfile be the same? I've heard taht they often can be slower than rapdishare?

Hotfile's privacy policy doesn't seem to be great compared to Rapidshare's.

I signed up to hotfile last night as it seems rapidshare files are already disappearing fast. Download speed was as fast as it ever was on RS. Definitely reccomend it on what i've seen so far. $9 = €7.xx for 30 days. Defo worth a trial.

looking at sharingmatrix,is there a search engin for files to be found on sharematrix.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,088 ✭✭✭stevek93

Ive worked out that for a account of 356 days at 20gb per day you will need 28,470 rapids which 20,000 rapids costs you €199.00! Were as they they provided a 25gb per day for 365 days a year at €55.00 which we were all happy with.
I can see rapidshare this time next year in the history books if they don't see very soon they have made a HUGE mistake, hotfile are laughing at rs now and so many other site.

At least Happy Hour is alive, this will allow me to take down 8GB HD films on the Rapidlite and actually cost less, however if I need something in a hurry during the day then it is a huge drawback. Rapidshare will atrophy and wither and die because of this, I already have a Hotfile and Depositfiles account and nearly anything you want on Rapidshare can now be found on Hotfile if you know where to look. Depositfiles is poor and seems to be only used for hosting porn really, my one month sub will not be renewed when it expires as there is no files on it that is not already on RS or HF.

I got a Hotfile account for US$55 or €42.22 (at the exchange rate two months ago). Speeds are the same as rapidshare and if your line will support it, then Hotfile will suck all the bandwidth you can give it. Newer uploads are now not appearing as much in RS and HF and MU are in the ascendancy.

the idea of buying a certain number of "rapids" keeps making me think of primary school. being able to do a "ghostie" with a match would be worth one rapid but having a mountain bike would be worth 10 rapids which makes one deadly.

Has anyone successfully cancelled their account and gotten a refund yet?

Absolutely and uterrly ridiculous, why change a system that worked fine?
They have now succeeded in losing their place as the most dominant player in the market.

    Megaupload/Hotfile... here I come!

So glad that I only extended for another 30 days 2 weeks ago! They've lost themselves a loyal customer with me, and it sounds like I'm not the only one!
Hope you've all been sending an email to support@rapidshare.com....

I can't understand why they did this especially after they got rid of their CEO Bobby Chang back in April. Apparently he wanted to do a deal with the entertainment industry....then they shoot themselves in the foot anyway!

    torrentfreak.com
Recently we revealed that Chang had sent out a letter to entertainment industry representatives, looking for partnerships and licensing deals. In this letter he labeled some of RapidShare’s users as ‘criminals’ who would see their accounts terminated more rapidly.
According to Chang, RapidShare would be working on a changed course where they would focus increasingly at converting illegal downloaders into paid customers. Whether or not the plans described in this letter have anything to do with Chang’s sudden departure is open for speculation.

I consider myself a smart person, like the rest who have posted here, ive even managed to assemble a few letters after my name and im still confused to what they tried to sell me? But more to the point WHY are they changing their business model?
What in all seriousness what was wrong with the old model???

It was more expensive than their rising rivals (€10 more than Hotfile), they have a huge marketshare and were proven to protection users privacy... it was trusted and that says a lot in todays climate of Eircom and the Digital Economy Act.
I cant see any other motivation for this than money or at east more money in the short run anyways, because they will lose it once they lose their customer base.
Im an average user i barely hit my daily quotas but i will get less value for what i paid for as, like most people use JDownloader rather than the RS site to download, so i know ill forget to reset my tariff everyday.
Im gonna bleed this thing dry and more on.

"Its like that old comedy sketch on TV, how do you get people to smack themselves in the face with a plastic hammer? Tell them they will get “points” for every time they do it."---- found this quite apt

Only noticed this new system today. I only bought a year long account recently and now they introduce this shíte. I hope to God they are bombarded with complaints and requests for cancellation. Do they not understand that they would make more money if they just kept things simple and give their users what they want. Complete and utter idiots must run the show at RS.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,975 ✭✭✭iMuse

Unless they backtrack ill be going with hotfile or megaupload at the end of next month, no harm in trialing them to see which works out best

I've emailed RS; to cancel my account. Told them i wasnt happy with the new system but would be happy to stay if the old system returned.

Hi everyone. New here and just found out about the changes today. Tis is the best forum I found for discussing this mess. Thanks for the nice infos so far!
Wierd thing is my account ran out about 3 weeks ago. I downloaded from RS.com today and wondered why I didn't have the waiting time, as if still on a premium account. Finally checked this email I got from RS on june 27th and discovered this mess. Turns out they converted my not-used traffic into 21 rapids and thus reactivated my account.
Seems like they'll never delete an account again from what i figured from their lousy attempts to explain the changes...

That's exactly what I was asking myself, too.

Am pretty p!ssed by the changes just like almost everyone here.
Moving to megaupload or such seems the way to go, but need this cleared b4:

Maybe its the lack of a lock security system ala rs.

Don't think so. Lock is only good preventing others from changing/using your account I guess. I was thinking about security policy in terms of protecting your data (dl logs and alike) from third parties.

That's only appropriate. Was just thinking because I thought I heard that RS was involved in some lawsuits regarding this issue and didn't disclose user's data even though it might have helped them.

Or am i totally mistaken here

This is what they say why they cancelled the reward system:

'They feel they had to react to accusations that the rewarding system was promoting/benefitting the spreading of copyrighted material. Not wanting to have the RS users being under this kind of general suspicion, they had no other option than to react like this.'

    How kind of them

...that I used to subscribe to:
    -Rapidshare,
    -Hotfile and
    -Depositfiles.

When RS expires, I'll be subscribing to
    -Hotfile and
    -Depositfiles,

...UNLESS RS learns something about GREED and apeciation of devoted customers.

Megaupload could possibke be my 3. filehost.

Thank god for this thread.. I'm joing the confused camp on this one.

I got the first e-mail about the changes then yesterday I got another to say I had been upgraded to rapidmedium from rapidsmall.. WTF?

It appears that rapids are the new "currency" used to keep your account going but the price plans are all over the place.

I've come to the conclusion that they are just trying to confuse customers so they get less download for the same (more?) amount of money..

I've noticed over the past few months that hotfile is probably the next most common service after rapidshare..

IMHO Hotfile.com are the only people who are goin to benefit from this mess..

    **Goes to start poll?

    How do you mean?

Rapidshare state they will not track user usage (what they download) and will not disclose this type of information.

    Hotfile make no such claim.
