    I was in The Blacksheep a few weeks ago and a work mate asked to taste Foam and Fury.
    This guy normally drinks Heineken/Carlsberg and his face was priceless.

    He said why do you drink that. Its so bitter. Then afterwards he tried a Buried at Sea and thought it was lovely.

    I'm probably going to get slated for this but....

    Stone Beers???

    I'm not going to say that they're no good but there are so many US and US style beers around every bit as good at a much cheaper price that their super premium price seems at odds.

    I'm glad I tried them but I really wouldn't bother again at over €6 for a Ruination in the offie! I'd get 2 Torpedos for that!

    Dogfish Head they aint!

    I thought every one of them were fantastic. Price is irrelevant tbh.

    If Dogfish Head exported to here I guarantee we'd have people on here complaining about them too

    Had 2 of their beers on cask, albeit brewed in the UK, was pretty disappointed by both.

    and you complaining about them complaining over and over and over and over and over.......

    I'm glad you liked them.
    How is the price of something irrelevant when value is being discussed?
    Sorry for being wrong.

    Just on the subject of Dogfish. I know you can't get them in Ireland, but you can a get a Dogfish collaboration in Drinkstore at the moment.

    Birra Del Borgo My Antonia

    By the description it sounds like a version of the 60 Minute IPA. It gets extremely good scores on Ratebeer too.

    I picked up a bottle last week.

    There's two types of way I buy beer, and I'm sure others are similar. When in experimentation mode, I'll buy one of a beer I'm interested in, even if I think it's very expensive. It's mostly curiosity. From that I'd decide if I want to ever pay that for the experience again, as a treat. Stuff like Black Ball and Bourbon County were great finds.

    And the other is buying beer for the fridge just to have beer, where I'd get my Leann Follains etc, and that's where value definitely comes into it.

    Well you expected to be slated, so there you go ;)

    I had a few bottles of that when I was in Rome on my honeymoon, there was a tiny bar just around the corner from our hotel, from which was blasting some kind of industrial metal music. I noticed that they were selling more than the usual Nastro Azzuro or other generic lager.

    New wife spots me spotting this, and in we went. They had a decent selection of Belgians and other stuff.

    Unfortunately, that was over 18 months ago, and I can't remember much about it.

    I might head down to Drinkstore to pick up a bottle, she if she remembers.

    I usually go into an off licence with a clear idea of what kind of beer I'd like (I could be in a Porter mood, and only pick up that style, I very rarely vary styles for an evening home-drinking) and I first of all look for beers of that style which I haven't tried before, choose them first, then add a few old reliables just in case something I've bought is horrible, I can re-adjust my tastebuds with something familiar.

    Yeah, I do that too. One time I just bought 4 new beers and disliked all of them and that was a sucky night, so now there's always ol' reliables added.

    I'll be missing Anchor Humming this year, as it's not being made anymore, I don't think. I know a lot of people think it's was probably so-so, but I loved it.

    I found Ruination to be way and beyond Torpedo, but then again the standard SN range for me represents mostly a kind of average standard of the individual beers styles. Like there's nothing wrong with them, especially IF you get them relatively fresh but there are similar options from other brewers that are better if not as widely available. Punk IPA does beat SN IPA in availability, price AND average freshness for me though. Torpedo is harder to match as most DIPAs would be more expensive.

    I like Stone and Dogfish Head to some extent, I find all this hyperbole about them being awesome about as annoying as the hyperbole about them being overrated. Who gives a **** - trust your palate and enjoy life. Nothing is as certain as mass hysteria on the internet.

    As a side note, does any offie do any Founders beers 4/10€ anymore? Redmonds has stopped their promotion. I need to stock up on All Day.

    I had the same experience with Boom IPA as a lot of others here, flat and underwhelming.
    8 Degrees Imperial Stout was not bad, but seriously missing depth in flavour - liquorice, chocolate, coffee, vanilla, SOMETHING.
    Kinsale Black IPA is cheerful. Might have to get a mini keg - anyone tried theirs yet, does it compare well to draft?
    Kinnegar Limeburner was pretty lame.
    Backwoods Bastard keeps on kicking ass.

    I thought most did. In Dublin, DrinkStore, Redmond's and Next Door in Kimmage all do anyway.

    Oh I just edited my post - forgot to add that Redmonds has stopped their promotion. Well I didn't ask them about it but I didn't see them marked as 4/10€ anyways. Sure I'll have to pop into Drinkstore before christmas anyways, hope they still do it!

    Fair enough comment really, not a whole lot going on there with that one, but it's a good entry point to craft beers - a bit like Trouble Ór (or whatever it's new name is) and other "blonde" ales.

    I reckon it's not a bad thing that craft brewers produce stuff like this, if it's designed to get people away from the macros.

    My Girlfriend said something which made me chuckle. She said, "You know you can keep trying all the beers, but if they keep making more, will you ever get to the end?"

    I'm stuck on this merry-go-round, but like, it's so very merry at times.

    My wife is firmly on the craft train herself, she happily quaffs pints of O'Hara's Stout wherever available, and is always the one who makes sure we have tickets for the RDS.

    Oh I'd absolutely drink that if the only other options were Heineken and the like! But at least in Dublin Kinnegar is pretty much niche (not even available in Redmonds etc) and if it's available, there are always nicer options too. And what I've noticed with my friends who mostly drink macros, they aren't too far gone and I'm not gonna be condescending to them all "you MIGHT not able to handle the real good ones, so try this lame one instead" ;)

    There's no way my missus is moving to craft beers.

    IPA=Flowers.
    Stout = Ashtray.
    Narwhal = WTF?!

    Wrong tack.

    "Here, try this one"

    "Oh yeah, not bad"

    "Yeah, here, try this other one".

    "nice one yeah"

    3 months later

    "Awh man, that OFAF is AMAZEBALLS, have you tried it yet!"

    :pac:

    Different schools of training - I prefer the "throw into the deep end and give out if they start drowning" method - it works in the movies!

    Picked up the 8 degrees Aztec and Imperial Stout yesterday, along with a Kinnegar Yonnaready Coconut Porter and the Blacks mini keg.

    Had the Coconut porter last night and liked it. I thought the body was a bit light for a porter but the coconut worked well
