    Ok, thank you.
Wonder why the passport lady didnt know.
Anyway, the application form states that for replacement one if stolen (does reported stolen count?) I need to send in long birth cert etc.
and I need to have it stamped at a Police station.

Clearly I have my previous one.
There's no space to write" thought stolen, was wrong!"

And have just remembered that I've already filled in the application form they sent out initially with police cad number etc.
So I have to wait for another form now. Very annoying.

You got through to the passport office today! I'm just getting the 'we're too busy to take your call' message.

Was wondering if anyone knows the timeframe from printing to receiving of passports? My passport was due for issue last Tues but still hasn't been issued. The website says it was approved yesterday, and that the next stage is printing, then posting. I need it for a Ryanair flight on Fri and I'm extremely anxious that I won't get it in time. As above, I can't get through to anyone in passport office and was wondering has anyone been in this scenario and what's my best course of action

    thanks

Cheers, updating the website every 10 mins here!

Managed to get in the queue for an agent so hopefully will be able to get some info bout likely posting time.

Didn't realise the thing had expired, or that Ryanair require them for Flights to UK! Don't get to travel much ha!

Well, I phoned the office again to see if I needed to send off all of the id materials plus the non stolen passport. And apparently it is still recorded as issued. (No notes about stolen or cancelled)
This gentleman suggested I go into the Cromwell Rd office to ensure it's the same on their it system.

Is it possible that it wasn't recorded as stolen as I didnt apply for a replacement?

Every Irish person, whether they are man woman or child even newborn has to have their own passport to enter any other country other than the UK (some airlines will require it even to fly to the UK).

There will soon be Passport IDs but this is in addition to the passport.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,931 ✭✭✭huskerdu

I would suggest that you get it all sorted well before the summer. There is a fair amount of paperwork/work/hassle involved in getting a child a passport. You have clearly not done this before, so get started early.

Currently the waiting time to get a passport using passport express is 15 days , instead of 10 and the delays will be longer closer to the summer.

I wouldn't recommend travelling on a passport which has been reported stolen. You run the risk of being pulled aside by immigration officers at ports of entry to most countries in the world. Once it's reported Lost, the UK police would inform Interpol, and the passport number would go on a database of lost/stolen passports.

You ought be able to get a form from your nearest Irish centre. There's a pretty big Irish Centre in Hammersmith if I recall correctly, which should be handy if you're in London. Or just make your way to the Irish Passport Office on Gloucester Road or Irish Embassy on Grosvenor Place. No need to wait for it in the post at all.

Sent the applications for Renewal for both mine and my son's Passports on Feb 11th. The website still says received on 12/02 and registered. Target issue date next Tues 04/03. Does anyone know if they are meeting the target dates at the moment ? Flying on 20/03. What are my chances of getting them by then ?

I sent my child's passport away on the 22nd Jan, I got a letter back to say there was a few things missing on the 16th of Feb. I sent everything back and it's giving me the same target date as you. I reckon you should be ok as long as your application is in order.

Target dates for renewals are being met in Cork anyway. Not sure about Dublin.

    Sorry slightly off-topic Passport question.

I need to renew my passport asap and want to have it in my married name. I got married in Spain but they need my Original Marriage cert and also a translated copy.
Any idea where I can get it translated (Dublin)-will that have to be an Official Certified Document?

    Thanks,
    Caroline

Any decent translation company that can translate from Spanish will do that. I did a quick Google search for "Translation Company Dublin" and got a good few results.

Wouldn't be able to recommend any as I'be never had to get any spanish documents translated to English.

Thanks fxotoole, yeah I did a search too but if it's a Certified Official Document I wasn't sure if I can just go anywhere or somewhere the specialises in it.
My husband thinks it's in both dual languages already so I better check this evening to be sure. (I only found out this morning!)

    Thanks,
    Caroline

Turns out the Guaranteed 10 day turnaround for passport express is now over 15 days.

I need the passport to travel to the UK and I have already booked the flights with Ryanair. It looks now like I will have to buy the flights with aerlingus. I will also have to check in a bag as the aerlingus flight is one of the turboprop jobs.

As I can travel with Aer Lingus at an additional cost of 150 Euro, they are not interested in helping me.

Anyone any experience of what to do in this situation, would my travel insurance cover it, with the guaranteed service, who is responsible. Does the guarantee mean anything.

It's not a guarantee. It's an estimate. The dfa website makes it quite clear that the turnaround time is 15 working days at the moment for Passport Express.

Precisely! Plus it's not the passport office 's fault that you didn't have a valid passport prior to booking. An expensive lesson to learn I'm afraid

I told the post office when I was getting the passport express and she said I would be fine.

I also received an email from their passport reminder service lately.

It says it offers a 10 day guaranteed service. Had they made it clearer I could have gone in person. Looks like I have to pay for at least two other peoples mistake. The person who designed the website and the person in the post office.

You may renew your passport through various channels including:

    * by express post at more than 1,000 post offices across Ireland (this service offers a guaranteed ten working day service for applications that are complete and in order)
    * in person at the passport offices in Dublin or Cork
    * for persons resident outside Ireland, through the nearest Irish Embassy or Consulate.

Never trust an employee of a third party to be up to date. Also that email clearly hasn't been updated. Complain if you like but a quick check on the dfa website would reveal that ten days is target but at peak times it can take 15 working days. There was a citizenship ceremony last month, that means this is a peak time.

So it is my fault to have gone by an uninformed employee and a non updated email. And I should suffer the cost of another flight because of their mistake.

Neither the employee or the email said to check the dfa website.

Where else would you pay for a guaranteed service but have to check that it is guaranteed now.

You're not paying for a guaranteed service any more, you're getting a passport by the cheapest method possible, with a target turnaround of ten working days but t&cs that allow for delays. The passport office don't accept regular post applications, it's more expensive to apply at the counter and emergency passports are €150. It really is up to everyone to keep informed.

In fairness, they shouldn't advertise it as TEN day 'express' passport then. I already said it took well over 16 days to get any correspondence from them and they are basically non contactable by phone unless you want to spend your whole day trying to contact them. Shoddy service if you ask me.

The service is called Passport Express, it is a track&trace service. The Express part may be a bit outdated as there is no other option anymore, but it does be next day delivery post-wise.
My guess is that they are trying to reel in as much staff as possible to actually get the job done instead of having many staff answering questions like "where is my passport" and not getting anything done in the end. As mentioned before, a good 3000 people received Irish Citizenship at the end of January, all these come on top of normal influx without extra staff being given to deal with it.

If I had to be on the phone all day I'd never get anything done. I rang a guy yesterday and he kept me on the line for 15 minutes dithering over whether or not he would call to the office to pick up his passport. In the time I was on the phone to him I could have approved 2 passport applications.

People also tell you all sorts of lies on the phone about their travel plans.

When people send proof of travel to customer care they leave a comment to call the applicant before approving if they're travelling soon. You'd call the applicant to tell them to come into the office to collect their passport because it's the only way they'll get it in time for their trip you're greeted with 'do I have to?'. It's very frustrating after you've rushed through their application for them.

Citizenship ceremonies really slow things down. Passport applications from naturalised citizens can in some cases take up to an an hour to go through. You have to check the application, verify documentation from other countries (in many cases they don't have any), identify what's wrong and write a letter to explain it all if you're rejecting it. Doing one application can be very time consuming. In contrast, you can approve a straight up renewal in 5 minutes if everything is in order.

It's up to everyone to be as organised as they can possibly be.

I didn't realise you work in the passport office. I'll be real nice to you now and could you please send me my daughter's passport. We're flying to The Bahamas in the morning ;)

Just spent €145 on an Aer Lingus flight when I had already paid for a ryanair flight.

I would have been grand if the passport express was what it was advertised as.

I appreciate now that passport express is not an express service, it is a pity they dont change their email headings and point of sale material and indeed the website.

I could not afford to take the hit if the aer lingus flight went to 300 euro as it was starting to for dates around the time I was traveling.
