lots of clouds forming on the coast of dublin. looking out towards portmarnock moving inland (appears to be the entire dublin coast)
looking back towards the west is very clear skies as far as eye can see !

is there any update on the potential for Thursday or will it just skirt the west coast?

    thanks!

Overnight ECMWF 00Z Guidance, in terms of precipitation distribution, downgraded this feature to an extent for Western areas, with Donegal & Northern Mayo appearing to be both most at risk.

That's not to say that it could well be intensified again on later guidance:

In addition, I see that MT Cranium has updated the forecast thread. As mentioned yesterday, as the area of low pressure continues to move south through the southern Irish Sea & subsequently off Southwest England, bands of precipitation will develop upon it's northwestern flank. It just depends on the strength & exact direction from which the flow eminates when determining the amount of potential snowfall & as to how far it will get inland.

I would say that ECMWF 00Z has a fairly good handle on the evolution.

Is it Snowing in Wicklow? Theres a lot of Cloud up there at the mo .
There was one or 2 light flurries in the wind here earlier from a shower that was so close to the shore you could almost touch it.
It was a very very light looking affair though.

    thanks!

Hi Munster, the ensembles have pretty much indicated since last Saturday that there will be precip along the western seaboard, Galway, Mayo, Donegal, in particular.

I am not sure what factors, other than a shift in wind direction or something stopping the high pressure to the north from moving south or south west, would bring this front further inland. The only thing that has changed in recent days is the intensity of the system. It has grown in intensity so I hope that will bring it further inland. I will take a look at the next run for you and let you know if it's an upgrade or downgrade.

Friday also shows precip on west coast

Well if you click on country flag, you'll see that only Southern England is Red, and the rest of UK inc NI yellow.

In Ireland NW is Orange with SW yellow

Meteoalarm is just based on the warnings issued by each countries own Met service, since our warning is not as severe as the UK one thats why we are different colours.

I had agreed with WC's diagram as to the track of the "polar low" when I saw it last night. All I can say is whoops... And drat the UKMO NAE model:p

I think the showers won't reach Dublin Airport until around midnight as it's further north but Wicklow southwards should keep their eyes on lamp posts from 1800 hours onwards:)

Meanwhile, it looks like an astonishing amount of snowfall is going to fall on central England today. Tbh I'm glad we're not getting those quantities. It's not fun living on higher ground when it snows like that, believe me.

Also, the snow never stuck in the city centre, which was disappointing. I hadn't expected the front to be marginal and with advancing NW winds too... Just shows the crucial difference in temps in urban centres.

Just watched the BBC Weather forecast there, they showed some snow in the Irish Sea just off the Wicklow/Wexford coast for 5am tomorrow and then later tomorrow the snow creeped in over Wexford and south Wicklow.

They are expecting -20 in Scotland around the weekend.

It's covered with 24hr TAFs from this morning. Look in the aviation thread

Jean Byrne there just had either the hirlam/ecm rainfall chart for this evening and tomorrow and mentioned snow showers for eastern coastal counties.
It looked organised and she said it was connected to the low pressure getting closer.
    Same tomorrow she said.
The feature off the west would clip the west coast with rain sleet and snow.

it looks to be all over here and the temperature has dropped accordingly. hopefully this feature progged for thursday make it a little bit further land than anticipitated. if it doesn't i hope those who have not seen snow on this side of country get some snow out of it.
