For what reason did they decide against having the Motorway going up over the hill.
I mean the cost to blast and cut through I hill like that I'm sure is astronomical

I'm guessing the slope of the hill would be too steep. Cut out the top half of the slope and use the material removed to make a ramp at the bottom half of the slope. Turns a steep hill into a gradual one.

At the start it was going to take a year for the blasting to take place, the did it in 7 months,it also took 61 blasts to remove all the rock and every bit has been used,it cost about 24 million

For a road to qualify as a motorway, it must have gentle gradients. If the route would make the hill too steep you must flatten it.

Rock is a valuable commodity on a road job, it is used for the tarmac and the concrete on the job, Most of the road jobs I have been on, the rock cut has been over blasted, by that I mean extra land might have been bought off the farmer to allow for more rock extraction and processing.

The M7 at Ballinahinch was 50 metres deep at its deepest point!

What is that mess that is a bridge south of Kilcolgan? It's an absolute mess, shocking layout.

Do you mean it is a mess now during works, or that the finished layout will be a mess?

As a regular user of that bridge ( I presume you mean at Kiltiernan) I agree, the design of it is terrible. I would guess that the designers deliberately introduced the curve to slow traffic approaching it, but it is very poorly done.

Nice work lad, the road is really taking shape now. You may be the new kid on the block but you've taken over the forum in a good way.

    Insane updates thanks

Concerns have been raised over the reclassifications, which will result in increased maintenance expenses for the County Council’s roads department.

    Seems reasonable to me.
