What is that mess that is a bridge south of Kilcolgan? It's an absolute mess, shocking layout.

As a regular user of that bridge ( I presume you mean at Kiltiernan) I agree, the design of it is terrible. I would guess that the designers deliberately introduced the curve to slow traffic approaching it, but it is very poorly done.

You mean the chicane at the Adrahan side of the Kilternan flyover? (I think this picture captures it, top left)

Its a bizarre layout alright unless its being future-proofed for another junction?

It will be a roundabout for the slips connecting the M18 southbound carriageway.

Not as bad leading up to that particular junction as much of the traffic coming from the Gort side will be coming in from the M6 direction. It will be bad coming off the M6 alright.

Great to see they're actually putting a bridge over the railway line instead of the usual level crossings.

If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

Nowhere in Ireland has a level crossing on a motorway and I suspect no new level crossings have been built for decades.

Apart from the one at Beechwood Luas in Ranelagh which probably has a higher average number of cars than the m17/18! Seriously, there could never have been a prospect of a level crossing on an N road being built today.

This sign would appear to incidate that the N63 Galwaybound will be detrunked to an R road.

If it wasn't the destinations would be on a green background like the Roscommon one.

A train has not passed on that line in decades

The line is still protected and they still aren't going to build a level crossing on a motorway.

Local opposition to the 'intrusion' of the bridge being replaced led to that Luas crossing

They should not be referring to Claregalway by its Irish name only on motorway signage.

That is correct, it is being detrunked. N63 will only go from Roscommon to Annagh Hill.

Does anyone else think the gap under the bridge at Kilcloghans looks very small and that's without being up to finished road surface level. Given all the flooding that was there last winter, i thought they would have risen the bridge higher to allow for raising the finished road surface below?
