Similar comments appeared on all the current gen roads pics - my photos of the M3 from nearly a decade ago included. It's entirely to standard.

Thanks for the clarification all. Shame though all these motorways are all so narrow compared to UK motorways. You'd barely get a bike on the hard shoulder of an Irish motorway.

The key difference between UK and Ireland is that almost all (intercity) UK motorways are three lanes each way, here they're two lane.

The hard shoulders on this scheme are 2.5m wide, which is plenty wide enough for a stretch of tarmac only needed for emergencies. Bikes are not permitted on the motorway.

The M17 is expected to carry between 15k and 20k vehicles per day. It's overspecced enough as is without it being wide median, of which there are only 4 motorways in this country (which were built as intended to motorway specs - M1, M4, M7 & M11 - all other wide stretches are redesignated)

Is this as wide as other motorways on our network? It sure doesn't look so. The other ones are narrow enough as it is....

The normal lane widths are 2.5m for the hard shoulder, 2 x 3m for the carriageways and 1m between the fast lane and the central median barrier. This would be standard size as per the old "NRA Road Construction Details" now the TII.

The nra are saying that the m17 will carry 7,289 vehicles per day when it opens, and 10,129 in 2030

Those are very low figures for a motorway.
We've a long history in this country of underestimating travel demand though.

I think muchos means a motorbike - but there's plenty of room for a car in the stopping lane much less a motorbike.
