Won't Louth be playing their qualifier match on the 24/25th?
If so, then a replay could really do them some harm.
Because if they have to play it this weekend, they'll have less time to recover for their qualifier match and the thought of losing a replay when they should have won the original match, I'd expect would have major physcological effects on them too.

But they could get draw against Cork.

Still sore that you got the Delaney trophy only because the umpire forgot his glasses.

I think its more the fact that the win would give them their first Leinster title in like what 50 years?!? I'd imagine the Leinster title would be their all-ireland in a sense?!?

I'm not sore at all :D
We are Leinster champions, we will be even if we have to win a reply, and you lot are just a bunch of sore angry pr!cks who won't win anything and it's hilarious! :D

LOL, we had the Cup 6 times before you even got to touch it and it hurt yous badly, when we had it.

I'm just curious to know your opinion seeing as your from meath :)
    What's the general reaction?
From the meath gaa fb group, they all seem to think that Louth don't deserve a replay. But that's a small proportion, of course.

EDIT: Ok.... meath supporters opinions seem to be the same so :P (well from what ive read)

    Yes, I know.
But, if the replay doesn't go ahead, they'll really have to just put their heads down and concentrate for the games ahead :/
Easier said than done, of course.
I'll be very disappointed in the Meath county board if they deny them a replay.
Even though it's unfair for them to decide in the first place.

I have a serous disliking for Meath. Many, many bad memories.

Awww... I'm so sad that in the past (which is not now btw) you had something we don't but now we have it. I'm dying of the memories of envy... oh wait, that's all they are, memories... :P

@Soccymonster- We should give them a replay. We won't play that poorly again, we'll beat them anyway, and it'd be a nice gesture.

You are just a bunch of inbred benders, that are afraid of your lives to go on the hill when we play yous. We have won 5 leinster titles in a row, have Meath ever done that no, will Meath ever do it: NO. Will we get our revenge? Yes, once that muppet Gilroy gets removed then we will kick your arses up and down croker for the next few years, which we were doing for the last eight years.

'Cos you sure sound it. When was the last time you lot went to someone elses pitch and went right in the middle of their supporters? You can't even win an All Ireland in over a decade with home advantage at ALMOST EVERY GAME, lol.

TBH I think any county would be very hesitant in giving a replay, not just Meath.

I agree with this tbh Its like the France incident at the World Cup, you cant blame France and you cant blame Meath, they wernt the ones who allowed the goal. And tbh once Meath were handed the cup they really shouldnt feel like they should call for a replay they were given the cup like..

Really bad call from the ref though, in fairness to the umpire theres not much he could do, he can only say score or no score and that should have been a free out but only the ref can call that. And tbh Im sure when the umpire didnt wave his flag he knew it should have been a free out but the ref probs over ruled him..
Thats why I think Gaa should be like Cricket and have the screens, though I understand peoples argument about how it'd slow the whole game down.. Then people would want them at their little club games and GAA couldnt afford that..

I do feel for Louth, because its horrible to lose like that, but I dont think its fair to be annoyed at Meath for not calling a replay..

I wouldn't give Louth a replay tbh. After the way their supporters carried on, they don't deserve one.

Banning them from inter-county football for a few years is all they 'deserve'.

Bob, i definitely wouldn't go that far based on some so called 'supporters' that are in every county. This type of occurance has been seen before. It's not the team's fault at all. Abit extreme to ban them from representing their county based on a minority of supporters wrong doings.

A fine would be sufficient imo.

I never get this logic, tbh.

A few supporters let themselves down => ban a whole county?

Thus not alone penalising the team, and all the rest of the supporters who muttered a FFS! and walked out the gate in disgust but with dignity, but all the supporters at home, and the young kids coming up who are left without a county team to follow / look up to, and so on?

Ban the supporters involved for life. More, there are videotapes available, hand them over to AGS and ask them to press charges.

Punish the guilty, NOT the innocent!

Otherwise we're back in primary school, with the whole class being kept in for an sos beag because one person threw a paper aeroplane and wouldn't 'fess up.

And I bet everyone here who that happened to remembers the anger and the resentment and the deeply felt sense of injustice, and how completely it failed in terms of nurturing any sense of responsibility in a class ...

We don't send whole families to prison because one commits a crime, why should we ban whole counties because of a few hoodlum supporters?

I'm just thinking that if I were a Louth supporter who was actually at the match, I'd be looking for a refund of some kind if they don't get a replay. Imaging the cost of having say a family, 2 adults, 2 children, at the match to have it snatched from you in the dying moments.

    What??
The cost is the same. This isnt gonna cost the family anything.
Jesus people really are over-reacting to this.I agree that changes are needed(preferably trained umpires with an actual say in thinks then the refs old pal Jim) but unfortunately these things happen in sport.
Ill be shocked if Meath agree to a replay and really dont think they should. If Louth want revenge they put their heads down and hammer the sh!t out of meath next time and make sure that 1 score cant change the game

If you pay around E80 to go and see the game and you're sure that you have it won onlyto have the trophy basically stolen from your hands by the referee and the GAA, the least the GAA can do is let Meath keep the trophy and just give the Louth fans back their money as a kind of compensation for losing the game because of the fault of the referee.

This makes less sense now than it did when I first came up with the idea....I think I should just stop digging .....

It should depend on how the guys got their tickets. If they got them through the clubs then those Louth clubs should be punished. If they got them off ticketmaster etc then it's clearly not their fault though.

If clubs are going to give tickets to people like that they don't deserve an allocation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,553 ✭✭✭soccymonster

The replay seems unlikely now tbh. It seems that a majority of the meath players themselves are opposed to the idea of a replay. I can understand this as most of them bar Joe sheridan played the game and had nothing to do with the finishing 'goal'. But how could one accept it in this fashion.....

But surely they can't be expected to do background checks on everyone they sell tickets to? If you apply the logic that the clubs should be punsihed, then surely if some of the troublesome supporters who bought tickets from ticketmaster, then ticketmaster should be punished also?

The only people at fault here are those idiot supporters. It's not the county board's fault, and it sure as hell isn't the Louth players' fault.
