Tuesday, 2 August, 2022 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS for the week of 2-8 Aug --

-- Temperatures will average near normal, rather cool at times from tomorrow to Saturday, then slowly warming up. The second week of this outlook will be 3-5 deg above normal.

-- Rainfall rather slight with a few showers each day to Friday, more likely to drop rainfall in west and north, but even there, only 25 per cent of normal.

-- Sunshine rather close to average.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy and warm, humid, with a few more passing showers and isolated thunderstorms. Highs 21 to 24 C.

TONIGHT will be partly cloudy to overcast, a few showers, breezy with lows 10 to 12 C.

WEDNESDAY will be partly cloudy with passing showers, cool westerly breezes, lows near 8 C and highs near 17 C.

THURSDAY and FRIDAY will be similar, partly cloudy with passing showers, lows 5 to 8 C and highs 16 to 19 C.

The following WEEKEND will become partly cloudy to sunny with any further showers quite isolated in north. Lows 4 to 7 C and highs 18 to 22 C.

Next week will turn warmer with at least some sunshine each day, more so in south and east. Highs 22 to 25 C. Some rain may approach the west coast in a few weak frontal troughs but this rain may not spread very far past the coastal fringes. Even warmer weather and significant heat in nearby Britain and France likely around end of that week and lasting perhaps well into August.

My local weather on Monday was partly cloudy and hot again, some moderate smoke haze at times, clearing away as breezes turned southerly. Highs near 35 C. It is turning a few degrees cooler overnight and for the rest of this week (highs closer to 30 C which will be more tolerable especially with the cooler nights expected).

Wednesday, 3 August, 2022 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS remain similar, relatively cool now to Saturday, small amounts of rain mostly in the northwestern counties, largely dry in the south and east, then warming up gradually all of the following week.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy with moderate westerly winds 40-60 km/hr and a few showers mostly towards the north and west, highs near 17 C there, but 20 C could be reached in the coastal southeast.

TONIGHT will continue partly cloudy with a few isolated showers, lows near 8 C.

THURSDAY and FRIDAY will continue quite similar with partly cloudy skies, fresh northwest breezes eventually returning to westerly, and isolated showers, lows both days near 8 C and highs 16 to 19 C.

SATURDAY will become slightly warmer with more sun than cloud, lows near 8 C and highs near 20 C.

SUNDAY will be sunny with cloudy intervals, warmer again, lows near 10 C and highs near 22 C.

Most of next week should see continued rises in daytime temperatures to reach a peak around 28 C late in the week. Nights will become rather warm also, lows 12 to 15 C. Skies should be clear to partly cloudy much of the time.

This very warm spell will lead to heat wave conditions again in southern England and northern France. Once again this will break down gradually with weak pushes of Atlantic sourced air masses having more influence in western Ireland but even there highs will just return to the low 20s, and could stay closer to the mid-20s further east.

My local weather did turn a slight amount cooler but remained sunny and dry, with the high around 31 C. At least nights will now get cool enough to provide some more "sensible" relief.

Thursday, 4 August, 2022 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS for the week of 4 to 10 Aug 2022 --

-- Temperatures will start out rather cool and could average slightly below normal to about Sunday then it will warm to around 2-4 deg above normal. The overall blend during the interval would be around 1 deg above normal.

-- Rainfall will be quite slight in the south and east, and somewhat greater (25-50 per cent of normal) in parts of the west and north.

-- Sunshine will be near average for early August.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy, breezy and rather cool with passing showers more frequent near Atlantic coasts where 2-4 mm amounts are possible. Highs 17 to 19 C. Winds northwest 40-60 km/hr at times.

TONIGHT will be partly cloudy with some clear intervals, lows near 8 C.

FRIDAY will be partly cloudy with isolated showers, highs 17 to 20 C.

SATURDAY will be partly cloudy to sunny, still a few isolated showers in the north, lows near 8 C and highs 19 to 22 C.

SUNDAY will be partly cloudy to sunny, lows near 10 C and highs 21 to 23 C.

MONDAY will be sunny, hazy and warmer, lows near 12 C and highs 22 to 25 C.

TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY will be hazy, very warm and rather humid. Lows near 15 C and highs near 25 C.

Somewhat cooler after a weak frontal system, but another warm spell could follow. The pattern going forward looks like the July blend of extreme warmth over the continent spreading into southern England at times, associated with a rather warm flow into Ireland from the south to southwest, and occasional clashes between those warm air masses and weak incursions of cooler Atlantic sourced air masses. The overall result is likely to be warmer and drier than average.

My local weather on Wednesday was sunny with a comfortable high of 32 C given the recent more severe heat and the ongoing low humidity. Nights are dropping down into a range between 8 C in the nearby hills, to 15 C in the valley, and about 12 C in town here. So we are able to cool down the living space each night and keep it reasonable despite it being rather hot outside. This heat has spread into most central regions of North America and is going to become more frequent in the east during August.

Friday, 5 August, 2022 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS remain dry, with slowly increasing temperatures that start out near or slightly below normal, and end up 3-5 deg above normal by end of next week. Above normal amounts of sunshine can also be expected.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy with longer sunny intervals in parts of the south and east. A few more showers are likely in parts of Ulster, with isolated showers in Connacht, north midlands and north Leinster. Highs near 18 C north to 21 C south.

TONIGHT will feature some clear intervals and lows 5 to 8 C in rural areas, 8 to 12 C near coasts.

SATURDAY will be partly cloudy to sunny, highs 19 to 22 C.

SUNDAY will continue with hazy sunshine and slightly warmer again, lows 8-10 C and highs 21-23 C.

MONDAY will bring warm hazy sunshine and highs near 24 C.

TUESDAY, increasing cloud west, sunny east, very warm. Highs near 25 C inland and low 20s near coasts, in a stronger southerly wind flow.

WEDNESDAY may bring a few showers along a weak cold front, highs closer to 21-23 C in south and east, 18 C north.

After that weak front passes, another high pressure area builds in for another warm spell peaking around mid-August and possibly even warmer temperatures into the high 20s.

My local weather on Thursday was cloudy with sunny intervals, breezy and a bit cooler with a high of about 26 C. Two passing showers each dropped small amounts of rain but not enough to change the dry ground conditions, it was fortunate that we had such a cool, wet May and June or the wildfire situation would be far worse than it has become (a few significant fires about 150 km west of here, we sometimes get a bit of residual smoke from them but air quality is far better than a year ago when it was exceptionally poor around here). The western-central heat has finally spread to the east coast in full force, some readings above 35 C there on Thursday.

Saturday, 6 August, 2022 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS over the next week will be dry with slowly increasing temperatures and generous amounts of sunshine.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy north, to sunny with cloudy intervals south, isolated showers still possible in Ulster and higher parts of Connacht. Highs near 17 C north, 20 C south and east.

TONIGHT will feature some clear intervals and cool temperatures with lows 6 to 9 C.

SUNDAY, hazy sunshine and warmer, highs 19 to 22 C.

MONDAY, hazy sunshine, warm. Lows near 10 C and highs 20 to 23 C.

From TUESDAY to about SUNDAY 14th, this warm, dry spell should persist, with highs gradually increasing to around 27 C inland, slightly cooler in some coastal locations. Winds will be light westerly during the first part of the warm spell, quite light and variable later in the week, and eventually will turn more to the east, so this will tend to change locations of cooling sea breezes from west coast at first, to all coastal areas, then mostly the east coast. Nights will turn a bit warmer but this spell may provide better relief at night than the July warm spell did.

Eventually the warm, dry regime will break down from the southwest as moist air and low pressure are expected to replace the high around the week of 15th-19th, perhaps not until middle to late stages of that week. Timing at that range is of course rather approximate at best. Areas that may go two weeks without rain could see 10-20 mm rain in this breakdown phase. Temperatures will return to the high teens and eventually it could turn rather chilly in northerly winds but that is about two weeks away and of course subject to change.

My local weather was very pleasant with partly cloudy skies and highs around 24 C. Nights are now cool enough that it feels cold outside with readings below 10 C.

Sunday, 7 August, 2022 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS for the week of 7 to 13 Aug will be warmer and mainly dry with plenty of sunshine in most places. Temperatures will average about 2-3 deg above normal.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be sunny with a few cloudy intervals, those more likely further north. Highs 20 to 23 C.

TONIGHT will bring some clear intervals, lows 8 to 12 C.

MONDAY will be mostly sunny with highs near 24 C inland, as westerly breezes begin to die out.

TUESDAY will be sunny and very warm, with sea breezes likely on most coasts, highs generally around 25-26 C but could be held a few degrees lower along some coasts.

WEDNESDAY to FRIDAY will continue sunny and very warm, possibly hot for some areas, highs 25 to 29 C. Nights will be somewhat more tolerable than in the July warm spell, with lows around 12 to 14 C.

Around the weekend of 13th-14th, some increase in cloud likely but it may stay very warm to about Monday 15th with highs continuing to reach 25-29 C. Cloudy with showers by Tuesday 16th, then a much cooler interval briefly, highs only 13-16 C, in strong northwest winds. This intrusion is not likely to last too long before temperatures gradually recover back into the low or even mid 20s for another late August warm spell.

My local weather on Saturday was ideal, sunny with very low humidity levels and a high near 29 C. This low humidity allows the temperature to cool off fairly quickly after sunset.

If you have clear skies this coming week, take a look for meteors of the Perseid meteor shower. The only problem will be a full moon by late in the week. You'll notice very bright Jupiter in the southeast by about 11:30 p.m, following less prominent but still easily found Saturn which is in the south by that time; Mars rises in the east-northeast around 0100h these nights.

Monday, 8 August, 2022 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS will be warm and dry, as temperatures increase gradually all week, with lots of sunshine expected.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be sunny with a few cloudy intervals in the north, highs around 24 C except slightly cooler near some coasts and in the far north.

TONIGHT will be clear with lows around 10 to 12 C.

From TUESDAY to FRIDAY expect more warm, hazy sunshine each day, clear nights, and a gradual increase in temperatures both night and day, so the next four days would have highs of about 25, 26, 27 and 28 C inland, a few degrees cooler on some coasts, while nights will gradually warm from about 11 to 14 C. Light winds throughout with just some coastal sea breezes.

Next weekend could be the peak of this warm spell or for some, heat wave, with highs 28 to 30 C possible. Nights will be close to 15 or 16 C. Winds light easterly during this very warm period.

By early next week, some showers at times in more of a westerly flow, temperatures not as warm and falling in stages, into the low 20s then perhaps further although guidance for second half of next week is not to be considered "carved in stone" by any means, as there are indications of a frontal band of heavy rain becoming an issue for the south, but we can't really rely on that happening at the ten-day time frame suggested.

My local weather has also been warming up with full sunshine on Sunday and highs near 30 C.

Tuesday, 9 August, 2022 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS for the coming week remain very warm and dry, to near the end of this interval, but there could be some rain by Monday 15th as temperatures start to fall back towards normal values. The week could average as much as 4-5 deg above normal.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will bring more warm, hazy sunshine with some coastal low cloud or fog possible especially on Atlantic coasts. The westerly breeze will be lighter than previous days. Highs 23 to 25 C except near 20 C where fog or low cloud persist.

TONIGHT will be mainly clear, hazy and lows will be in the range of 8 to 12 C.

From WEDNESDAY to SATURDAY, expect mostly sunny days and clear nights, a little warmer each day, highs near 25 C at first, then possibly as high as 28-30 C by Saturday. Nights also getting a bit warmer with the lows near 10 C rising to 14-16 C by weekend.

By SUNDAY, variable amounts of cloud and a slight chance of local showers or thunderstorms, still very warm, lows near 16 C and highs near 26 C.

MONDAY 15th to WEDNESDAY 17th more unsettled with temperatures back to more typical August values of 18-21 C, in northwest winds 40-60 km/hr, passing showers and possibly some heavier rain around Wed 17th.

The pattern beyond that looks variable with no strong signals for a return to very warm weather but that always remains a possible outcome closer to the time.

My local weather was sunny and hot on Monday with highs close to 35 C. Out for a sky watch earlier and breezes mixing cool and warm air with quite an odd variation in temperatures over the short time we were out, saw two Perseid fireballs within ten minutes despite this being three days before the predicted peak. Moon almost full but we were able to keep it out of our view behind a nearby hill. The moon will be full later this week at peak of the event though.

Wednesday, 10 August, 2022 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS for the week of 10-16 August --

-- Temperatures will average 3 to 5 deg above normal.

-- While largely dry to Sunday, increasing chances of heavy showers or thunderstorms especially in the west and southwest, could bring an outcome close to normal by end of this interval, some eastern locations staying somewhat drier through that unsettled period.

-- Plenty of sunshine until perhaps Monday, then rather cloudy. The net result will be 25% above normal sunshine for the weekly interval.

-- Generally light winds becoming moderate east to northeast.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be mostly sunny and very warm, with the exception of a few coastal areas. Highs generally 23 to 26 C, could be held down to around 20 C near some coasts, especially in the north.

TONIGHT will be mainly clear, with lows 8 to 12 C.

THURSDAY will be sunny, hazy and very warm, highs 24 to 27 C.

FRIDAY will be sunny, hazy and very warm or hot, highs 25 to 29 C, highest values inland west Munster.

SATURDAY and SUNDAY will continue sunny to partly cloudy, and very warm, with a slowly increasing threat of showers or local thunderstorms, most likely to be encountered inland west and north. Some coastal areas could begin to cool off a bit faster than inland areas too. Highs both days 25 to 29 C except near 20 C in north Ulster by Sunday. Overnight lows will vary from 11-13 C in rural areas, to 14-17 C in urban and coastal locations.

MONDAY will continue rather warm and more humid, with scattered showers and risk of thunderstorms. Lows near 17 C and highs near 24 C.

This unsettled but rather warm weather may continue to mid-week although guidance becomes more scattered when it comes to timing the eventual breakdown, even when that happens, it may not stay cool very long before warming back into the low to mid 20 range. The best bet for some cooling relief would be around Thursday-Friday (18th-19th), after that it could start warming back up although not to quite the same levels as this coming few days.

Rainfalls during the unsettled portion of next week could be heavy in some parts of west Munster, with highest potentials around 35-40 mm but amounts may be quite variable over the region.

My local weather turned rather cloudy on Tuesday but it was still very warm at about 30 C, and with this cloud, it hasn't cooled down very much overnight. A few isolated showers formed but they tended to dry up approaching our region. After a high of 36 C in NYC on Tuesday, the eastern states will be cooling off in stages but the heat will remain "on" for central and western regions.

Thursday, 11 August, 2022 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS will be broken down a bit differently for a few days -- from today to Saturday, very warm and dry, with plenty of sunshine then for the interval Sunday 14th to about Tuesday 23rd, an unsettled interval with potential for heavy rainfalls to develop on several occasions, mostly in west-central counties at first, but later in eastern counties. See forecasts for details. Temperatures in this unsettled period rather variable and on average close to long-term normals, but followed once again by warmer weather.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will bring more hazy sunshine and very warm to hot temperatures with highs 25 to 30 C, some coastal areas a bit cooler where sea breezes or low cloud intrude.

TONIGHT will be mainly clear, rather warm and hazy, with a full moon. Lows 12 to 15 C.

FRIDAY will continue much the same with sunshine, local sea breezes and highs generally 26 to 30 C.

SATURDAY may see no real changes either although some parts of north Ulster will be cooler due to a northeast breeze there. For most, lows 14 to 17 C and highs 26 to 30 C.

SUNDAY, after a warm night with lows 15 to 19 C, the daytime hours feature a frontal boundary likely to form from about Mayo to Limerick, generating locally heavy showers and thunderstorms. These may drift further east before dissipating overnight. Local downpours are possible, to about 20 mm. Further east it will likely remain dry and partly cloudy, still quite warm with highs near 27 C. West of the showers and storms, variable cloud and temperatures steady around 18-22 C with some coastal fog.

MONDAY, after another generally warm overnight with lows 15 to 19 C, the front may try to re-activate although remnants of it will likely be pushed further south and west as warmer air hangs on in south Leinster and possibly east Munster. Highs around 25 C where the warm air remains in place, otherwise closer to 19-22 C.

TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY are somewhat uncertain as to details but likely to remain similar with more locally heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms, the warmth in the southeast gradually tempered so that highs will be near 23 C then 21 C on these days, with readings of 15-18 C further west and north, in moderate to brisk northeast winds.

Later next week, strong areas of low pressure will dominate and some of them could make loops around Ireland bringing local strong winds and heavy rainfalls. This is far enough into the outlook period that confidence in this sort of outcome is moderate, but guidance is suggesting some heavy rains, at first in the south and parts of central to western counties, later moving into Leinster with outcomes that, if they verify, would end the dry spell and signal a return to generally wet conditions in some areas. As I say, this is somewhat speculative, I am but the messenger. Watch how this unfolds because while the details are bound to change, it seems a rather strong signal for unsettled weather to develop (in that time frame).

The same guidance suggests that after some rather variable temperatures and one or two quite chilly days in the rain, temperatures would once again moderate and warm back up into the low 20s at least.

My local weather has remained quite hot despite partly to mostly cloudy skies, with highs reaching 33 C on Wednesday.

Friday, 12 August, 2022 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS for the week of 12 to 18 Aug --

-- Temperatures will remain very warm for several days then will gradually return to near normal. The average will be 3 deg above normal.

-- Rainfalls will begin to spread across western and central counties by Sunday, then some additional rain is likely in all regions during the rest of the week. Totals will be near normal. There are opportunities for heavier rain to occur in the second week of this outlook, confidence in this remains medium at best.

-- Plenty of sunshine today and Saturday, more cloudy after that, total sunshine may therefore be held to about average for a seven day period.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be sunny and very warm to hot, highs 26 to 31 C. Some coastal sea breezes may cool a few locations to the low 20s.

TONIGHT will be hazy, generally clear and warm, lows 14 to 18 C.

SATURDAY will be sunny with some intervals of high cloud, highs 26 to 31 C. Some northern coastal areas could be considerably cooler as northeast breezes develop across north Ulster.

SUNDAY, after a warm overnight period with lows only 15 to 20 C, will become mostly cloudy, still quite warm especially in central and eastern counties, where highs will reach 24 to 28 C. Heavy showers and thunderstorms will develop over parts of west Munster and the midlands, drifting further northeast, with potential for 20 mm locally, but both west and east coasts may see considerably less rain.

MONDAY will be mostly cloudy with northerly breezes and cooler temperatures, some showers or intervals of light rain. Lows 14 to 17 C and highs 18 to 22 C, possibly closer to 24 C near the southeast coast.

TUESDAY will be overcast with showers and moderate northerly breezes, lows 13 to 16 C, highs 18 to 21 C.

This rather unsettled interval will gradually trend somewhat drier and warmer around Friday 19th, then further outbreaks of rain are likely with low pressure likely to be close to Ireland at times. That unsettled interval has shifted somewhat further west compared to how it looked on yesterday's guidance, but as this interval is quite a few days off, further changes in the outlook could be expected.

My local weather on Thursday was sunny and hot with highs near 36 C. Scattered thunderstorms developed, drifting north, and one of those was close enough to drop a bit of rain here although from radar it looked like much heavier storms were moving past us about 20-30 miles to the west and also to the east. Those are all now rumbling away further north. Hopefully they will drop enough rain to cancel out the lightning fire hazards. We have about a week of this sort of weather ahead so fingers crossed there aren't a lot of new fires. Some of the Thursday storms created flash flooding or mudslides in a few locations too.

Saturday, 13 August, 2022 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS for the next week continue similar to previous reports, cooling from near record heat to more average temperatures although perhaps not getting all the way back to normal with highs often in the low 20s later in the week. Scattered outbreaks of rain, some heavy, from Sunday to Tuesday, then a somewhat more settled interval. Total rainfalls may reach normal seven day totals in some central counties but may remain a bit below average around coastal regions.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be sunny with some patchy higher cloud, hazy and hot with highs reaching 26 to 30 C in most areas, 22 to 25 C near some coasts although 18 to 22 C north Ulster. Isolated thunderstorms could develop near sea breeze boundaries in the south and west, with limited coverage at most.

TONIGHT will be mainly clear, hazy and quite warm with lows 15 to 19 C.

SUNDAY will start out partly cloudy, very warm and somewhat more humid than previous days. Highs 24 to 28 C, except 20 to 24 C closer to Atlantic coasts and in most of Ulster. Showers and thunderstorms will slowly develop in parts of west Munster to south Connacht, then these will drift further east. Some heavy downpours could develop by late afternoon and evening, counties most at risk from north Cork, Limerick, Tipps into Offaly, Roscommon, Westmeath and south Ulster. Some other counties in the southeast could see this activity by the overnight hours into early Monday.

MONDAY will see some resumption of this shower and thunderstorm activity, although not as intense, with partly cloudy to overcast skies in general, lows 15 to 20 C and highs 21 to 24 C for most, 17 to 20 C west and north. Moderate northerly breezes in most areas except the southeast which will hold on to a light east to northeast breeze.

TUESDAY will continue rather unsettled but with more isolated showers, in moderate north to northwest breezes. Lows 13 to 16 C and highs 18 to 22 C.

WEDNESDAY to the end of the week and into next weekend ... somewhat more settled weather in general will return with just brief showers in a few areas, partly cloudy skies, near normal temperatures possibly still running a degree or two above late August averages, with highs 19-22 C, nights fairly mild but not oppressive in the 8 to 13 C range.

My local weather on Friday was partly cloudy and hot (near 35 C) with scattered thunderstorms, which stayed far enough away that we remained dry. By evening, some clear intervals, a bright full moon halfway between Saturn and Jupiter, unfortunately no Perseids on display, but frequent lightning in storms about 50 miles to our northwest made the sky watch worthwhile anyway. Up in the hills at 1500m, breezy and still quite warm for that altitude at about 14 C, in town still around 20 C at 11 p.m. local time.

Sunday, 14 August, 2022 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS for the week of 14 to 20 Aug --

-- Temperatures will drop back towards more average values for mid-August after one last day of heat today, but will begin to edge back up later in the week. This will result in an average 2-3 deg above normal.

-- Rainfalls will sometimes be quite heavy in central counties starting late today, with several more episodes of unsettled weather mid-week and later in the interval. Some coastal areas may see less than 20 mm in total, while some central counties could see 40 or even 50 mm in total which is 25-50 per cent above normal.

-- Sunshine will be a lot less prominent after today but even so, could manage to keep pace with August's average 4 hours a day.

(almost all locations have recently been running 250 per cent of normal sunshine in the past week)

    FORECASTS

TODAY will start out quite similar to the last two very warm days and by early afternoon highs of 25-28 C will be reached in the south and east. Cloudier further west and north, 22-25 C. Showers and thunderstorms will be developing in a region between Cork and the midlands.

TONIGHT these showers and thunderstorms will become quite heavy by this evening, with Tipps, Laois and Offaly likely to see the heaviest rainfalls near 20 mm in places. The activity will spread further east by midnight, but not as intense by then (10-15 mm in central Leinster). Quite warm and muggy with lows 15 to 18 C. (may post an update on the thunderstorm potential by 6 p.m.)

MONDAY the remnants of the overnight showers will try to redevelop over the southeast, results not as heavy or prolonged, but even so, a few locally intense downpours possible. Partly cloudy to overcast at times further west and across the north. Highs will be around 22-24 C in the southeast, 19-21 C further west and north.

TUESDAY will be more settled in a north to northeast flow, just a few isolated showers, lows near 12 C and highs 18 to 21 C.

WEDNESDAY could see a few outbreaks of rain again, lasting into early THURSDAY. Partial clearing will follow. Highs both days 18 to 22 C, lows around 14 C.

FRIDAY and SATURDAY could provide a drier interval with somewhat warmer highs 21 to 25 C, rain at times by late Saturday into Sunday 21st.

The following week, a warm southwest flow will develop, with the storm track close to Donegal into western Scotland. Several outbreaks of rain are likely for the west and north, more of a showery outcome for the south and east, with temperatures continuing to run several degrees above normal (22 to 26 C). Britain will see returns to significant heat at times in this pattern (28 to 32 C) and in general the very dry month they are also having (4 mm the average to date for England and Wales) will tend to continue more so than in Ireland, with some places not seeing a lot more rain for the next two weeks.

My local weather on Saturday was sunny and very warm, although our high near 31 C seemed more tolerable after so many hotter days recently. Clear outside now, so taking the chance to see Perseid meteors as the shower has just peaked recently.

    7 p.m. Sunday 14th August 2022

    Update on thunderstorm development

It appears that development is running about one to two hours behind earlier guidance was suggesting, so that most of the current activity is still located further west than the eventual peak zone expected to be approximately Cork to Westmeath. Development has been fairly rapid in the past hour. Therefore it is still expected that some intense storms could develop over parts of Cork, Limerick, and Tipps in the next hour or two, spreading to Laois, Offaly and parts of Kilkenny and Kildare. Activity further north will move across parts of Galway and Roscommon into Leitrim and Longford then into south Ulster.

The two areas should merge later around Westmeath and Cavan. Some locally intense lightning and downpours of 15-20 mm in short intervals will be the main hazards associated. It's possible that the rainfall will continue well past midnight and the storms may lose their electrical component before the event winds down. Then there will be scattered resumptions of this activity across parts of the inland southeast on Monday.

Monday, 15 August, 2022 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS for the week of 15-21 Aug --

-- Temperatures will average about 1 deg above normal.

-- Rainfalls will average near normal, although most of the rain may fall today with some additional amounts around Thursday and just about the end of the weekly interval (Sunday 21st).

-- Sunshine may manage to keep pace with August averages of about four hours a day, some days getting more sun than others.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy to overcast, with outbreaks of rain and some embedded thunderstorms. The heaviest rainfalls will be across inland Munster and south Leinster where 15-25 mm is possible with locally heavy downpours by afternoon. Total rainfalls of 5 to 15 mm further north. Highs 21 to 23 C but temperatures likely to fall back to 17 C during prolonged rainfall.

TONIGHT remnants of the rainfall will slowly diminish in west Munster with a general drying trend elsewhere, some clear intervals developing in Connacht, the midlands and Ulster. Lows 12 to 14 C.

TUESDAY will be partly cloudy with a few isolated brief showers, most places staying dry. Moderate northerly breezes and cooler with highs 18 to 20 C.

WEDNESDAY will start out sunny with cloudy intervals, then cloud will increase by afternoon. Rain will spread into Atlantic coastal counties by evening. Lows 7 to 10 C and highs 17 to 20 C.

THURSDAY will be cloudy with occasional rain, humid with lows near 14 C and highs 18 to 21 C. Moderate southwest winds.

FRIDAY and SATURDAY will present an improved weather picture with sunshine mixed with clouds, lows near 10 C and highs 21 to 24 C both days. Increasing cloud late Saturday.

SUNDAY will be back to clouds and outbreaks of rain (10-25 mm), lows near 14 C and highs near 20 C. It may also be rather windy especially near the Atlantic coasts.

The following week will bring a mixture also, with some fairly settled and rather warm days in the mix, also some outbreaks of light rain. Britain will stay warmer in general through both weeks and will also see less significant rainfalls, in fact the drought may not break in some areas until September.

My local weather was sunny and hot with a high near 35 C on Sunday. Just looking out at the waning gibbous moon very close to Jupiter in the southeast.

Tuesday, 16 August, 2022 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS for the week of 16-22 Aug --

-- Temperatures will average near normal or slightly above.

-- Rainfalls will average 75 to 100 per cent of normal values, Thursday and Sunday will be the wetter days.

-- Sunshine may manage to keep pace with August average values of about 4h per day.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be rather cloudy with a few brighter intervals, perhaps becoming more sunny towards late afternoon and evening. Any remnant showers will likely be very brief and isolated, most places will have a dry day. Winds northerly 40-60 km/hr. Highs 17 to 20 C.

TONIGHT will feature some clear intervals and it may become rather cool with lows 6 to 9 C. A few brief showers could drift south along the east coast at times, only trace amounts likely.

WEDNESDAY will have some morning sunny intervals, and increasing cloud by afternoon. Rain will approach the west coast late in the day. Highs 18 to 21 C.

THURSDAY will be mostly cloudy, with outbreaks of rain, possibly heavy at times in some central counties where 15-25 mm could fall, from about Galway to Dublin. Somewhat lesser amounts are expected both to the north and south of that track. Rather blustery southwest winds at times, with partial clearing late in the day. Lows near 14 C and highs 18-20 C.

FRIDAY will be partly cloudy to overcast with isolated showers, lows near 10 C and highs near 18 C.

SATURDAY will be partly cloudy to overcast, with rain approaching again late in the day. Lows near 12 C and highs near 21 C.

SUNDAY will be rather unsettled with outbreaks of rain and possible thunderstorms, at this point nothing too extreme is indicated but keep an eye on forecasts given what just happened across the south. Lows near 15 C and highs near 18 C.

NEXT WEEK looks rather average in terms of temperatures, with some warmer days for Britain and France that may not translate to warmer conditions in Ireland as the temperature gradient looks strong despite a general lack of frontal activity. Highs will be around 18 to 21 C in Ireland but 21 to 25 C and sometimes higher in Britain.

My local weather continues mostly sunny, hot and dry, with highs in the low to mid 30s across the region. Even hotter weather is coming our way for a few days.

Wednesday, 17 August, 2022 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS continue as described yesterday, near normal temperatures and rainfall over the week, much of the rain falling on Thursday and the weekend. Sunshine rather infrequent after today, but could reach 75 per cent of normal.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy at first, then overcast by afternoon, with rain approaching the west coast. Highs 18 to 21 C.

TONIGHT rain will gradually push inland across parts of Connacht and west Munster, overcast but largely dry further east until well after midnight. Lows 11 to 13 C.

THURSDAY will be mostly cloudy with showers and isolated thunderstorms, bands of heavier rain expected from about north Clare and south Galway east to Dublin. Rainfalls 15-25 mm possible in that zone, closer to 5-15 mm both north and south. Highs about 20 C in Munster and south Leinster, 18 C central and 16 C north. Rather blustery southwest winds at times in Munster, 40-60 km/hr. Partial clearing by late afternoon.

FRIDAY will be cloudy with sunny breaks, and scattered light showers. Lows near 9 C and highs near 18 C.

SATURDAY will be overcast, humid, and wet by mid-day to afternoon in parts of Connacht, Ulster and the midlands, showers expected in Munster and eventually also in Leinster. Lows near 14 C and highs near 19 C.

SUNDAY and MONDAY will continue unsettled with further outbreaks of rain at times, although rather showery and separated by some brighter spells. Highs both days around 19 C.

Later next week, a gradual improvement is expected, with less frequent showers, temperatures staying in a similar range. By the final weekend of the month and into the last few days of August, a dry spell with pleasant temperatures is foreseen, followed eventually by more rain around the start of September.

My local weather on Tuesday was sunny and hot, with a high of 37 C reported at the nearest weather station (but that after a morning low of only 13 C, so we are getting a bit of relief at night in this heat wave). This will drag on until the weekend here and then it turns slightly cooler which will be a good thing.

Thursday, 18 August, 2022 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS for the week of 18 to 24 Aug 2022

-- Temperatures will be near normal for the period

-- Rainfall will be 75 to 100 per cent of normal, heavier in the midlands than most other areas

-- Sunshine will be challenged to reach 75 per cent of normal (or three hours a day on average)

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be overcast with showers, possibly an isolated thunderstorm in central counties. Rainfalls of 5-10 mm are now expected as this system has weakened overnight. Highs 17 to 19 C, perhaps 20 or 21 C in parts of Munster. Moderate southwest winds, partial clearing from the west late afternoon into evening.

TONIGHT will be partly cloudy to overcast, still a few remnant showers, lows 10 to 13 C.

FRIDAY will be partly cloudy, highs 17 to 20 C. Rain will approach the west coast by afternoon and spread inland by evening.

SATURDAY will be overcast with outbreaks of rain, rather muggy and humid with lows near 14 C and highs 18 to 21 C.

SUNDAY will bring variable cloud, a few more showers and lows near 15 C, highs near 21 C.

MONDAY will be partly cloudy with lows near 12 C and highs near 20 C.

TUESDAY looks unsettled with a frontal wave moving through the south and east possibly bringing 15-25 mm rainfalls and temperatures steady around 17 C.

The outlook for the rest of the month is reasonably settled from mid-week to early September with near normal temperatures and east to northeast breezes, there are some suggestions of occasional light rainfalls near the south coast in this pattern.

My local weather was hot and sunny with a high reaching 38 C. I guess we will miss this next winter perhaps.

Friday, 19 August, 2022 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS remain similar, temperatures not far from normal and perhaps slightly above, rainfall similar, sunshine the other way round, not quite reaching average totals.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy to overcast, with a few showers, mainly in north Connacht and Ulster, spreading at times through the midlands. Only about 1-3 mm rainfalls expected, highs 17 to 20 C.

TONIGHT will become overcast with outbreaks of rain through the north and west, 10-15 mm possible by morning. Showers developing further south after midnight. Rather warm and muggy with lows 12 to 15 C.

SATURDAY will see this band of rain spreading further south but tending to break up into showers with smaller amounts (5-10 mm) for regions from the midlands to south and east coasts. Partial clearing from the northwest after this frontal band. Highs 19 to 22 C.

SUNDAY will be partly cloudy to overcast and rather warm, with showers and isolated thunderstorms. Lows near 15 C and highs near 22 C.

MONDAY will continue similar with showers and lows near 14 C, highs near 21 C.

TUESDAY will see some breaks in the cloud and fewer showers with lows near 12 C and highs near 20 C.

From then on, the weather may become somewhat more settled with fewer showers on most days, and longer sunny breaks at times. Highs will continue to run around 20-22 C. Some signs of a warmer turn by the following weekend (27th-28th) and then back to average values for the end of the month.

My local weather has continued sunny and hot, with another scorching high near 38 C on Thursday. Some patchy cloud has moved in but any storms are further west. The heat is expected to last until Sunday around here with somewhat cooler weather for the following week.

Saturday, 20 August, 2022 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS for the week of 20 to 26 August --

-- Temperatures will average about 1 deg above normal values.

-- Rainfalls will average 50 to 75 per cent of normal, heaviest in north.

-- Sunshine will average near normal, trending more frequent later in the interval.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy to overcast in the south, and will start out cloudy elsewhere with outbreaks of rain continuing to edge further south. These will tend to fragment into showers across central counties by mid-day and some parts of the southeast could remain essentially dry. Highs 19-22 C south and central, 15-18 C north. Moderate southwest to west winds 40-60 km/hr.

TONIGHT will be partly cloudy with a few light showers in the south and west towards morning. Lows 12-15 C.

SUNDAY will be rather warm and muggy with some local showers and risk of an isolated thunderstorm. Highs 21-23 C.

MONDAY will also be warm and muggy with a few showers, lows near 15 C and highs 22-24 C.

TUESDAY will begin to turn somewhat cooler with a mixture of cloud and sunny intervals, isolated showers, lows near 12 C, highs near 20 C.

WEDNESDAY will be sunny with cloudy intervals, lows near 10 C and highs 19 to 21 C.

It currently appears that the pattern from mid-week to early September will remain mostly dry and often sunny, with winds from an easterly direction due to nearby blocking high pressure over Scotland. Highs will be generally in the low and sometimes mid 20s. Fairly similar for Britain except that they may see heavy rainfalls in parts of the east around Thursday from low pressure moving up from northern France. Once that moves up into the North Sea by Friday, also dry and relatively warm there also.

My local weather stayed very warm but a bit of higher cloud and smoke haze from distant fires combined to keep it a few degrees cooler with highs in the low 30s. It looks a bit more unsettled for Saturday in our region.

Sunday, 21 August, 2022 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS remain similar, temperatures near or slightly above normal values, rainfall dropping off later in the week so that totals will likely stay around half to two-thirds of normal totals, and sunshine possibly running a little below average.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be rather warm and humid again with a few scattered light showers, generally only about 1-3 mm of rain where any does fall and that is most likely in Ulster and higher parts of Connacht and west Munster. Highs 19 to 23 C.

TONIGHT will be overcast with a few outbreaks of rain developing, lows 13 to 16 C.

MONDAY will be partly to mostly cloudy with a few outbreaks of rain, 3-7 mm the most likely amounts, heaviest in west and north. Highs 19 to 23 C.

TUESDAY will become partly cloudy with just isolated showers, lows near 12 C and highs 18 to 21 C.

WEDNESDAY will be partly cloudy with lows 8 to 11 C and highs 17 to 20 C.

THURSDAY will be mostly cloudy with a northeast breeze, dry for most but some rain is possible especially later in the day in east Ulster and north Leinster. Lows near 10 C and highs near 19 C.

FRIDAY will bring partial clearing and lows near 9 C, highs near 19 C.

The outlook is relatively bland, rather dry through the last weekend and few days following in August with highs generally near 20 C, then possibly a change to a more active regime of passing Atlantic lows with attendant wind and rain at times.

My local weather was rather cloudy with a few light showers, and distant thunderstorm cells, still rather warm but the cloud kept our high in a more comfortable 25-28 C range.

Monday, 22 August, 2022 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS continue similar to reports in past few days, temperatures slightly above normal, rainfalls about 50% of normal in the north to near zero in the south, and sunshine eventually keeping pace with normal.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy, warm and humid with a few passing showers and isolated brief thunderstorms possible. Some places will remain dry and others will see 5-10 mm, more widespread in Ulster. Highs 21 to 24 C.

TONIGHT will be partly cloudy to overcast with a few showers, mist or fog patches developing. Lows 13 to 16 C.

TUESDAY will be partly cloudy with a few showers mostly in the north, moderate west-southwest breezes, highs 20 to 23 C.

WEDNESDAY will be partly cloudy and mostly dry with lows near 8 C and highs near 19 C.

THURSDAY will become overcast and there could be some light rain at times mostly in the west and north. Lows near 12 C and highs near 19 C.

FRIDAY will become partly sunny with lows near 8 C and highs near 20 C.

SATURDAY and SUNDAY will likely continue bright and dry with slightly higher temperatures each day, highs 21-22 C.

This dry and somewhat warm spell will continue for a few more days before the weather becomes cloudier and then more unsettled in the first few days of September when a more substantial rainfall may occur.

My local weather on Sunday was sunny and hot again with highs in the mid 30s. Clear and pleasant outside now though, around 17 C at almost midnight.

Tuesday, 23 August, 2022 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS for the week of 23 to 29 Aug 2022 --

-- Temperatures will average about 1.5 deg above normal values.

-- Rainfall will vary from 25% of normal in the south to 75% in the north.\

-- Sunshine will run somewhat below average.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be cloudy with a few brighter intervals, still rather warm and humid, with showers mainly over western and northern counties, where amounts may reach 5 mm in places. Highs 21 to 23 C.

TONIGHT will turn fresher and cooler with lows 8 to 11 C. Showers will continue in some parts of the west and north.

WEDNESDAY will be partly cloudy with only a few isolated showers. Highs 18 to 20 C. Winds westerly 40-60 km/hr.

THURSDAY will become overcast with outbreaks of rain, heavy at times in the north where 10-15 mm could fall. Highs near 20 C in the south and 17 C north.

FRIDAY to about MONDAY, brighter and generally dry except for some rain at times in the far northwest. Highs around 20-22 C.

A more active Atlantic driven regime will develop around the first of September and there may be some stronger winds and heavier rainfalls in that pattern.

My local weather on Monday was overcast with a few showers on radar to our west but no rain locally, highs around 25 C. The break from the heat was welcome

Wednesday, 24 August, 2022 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS continue similar, temperatures slightly above normal values, rainfall below average except perhaps in parts of the northwest, sunshine running a bit below normal but recovering later.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will start out fairly bright in the east, with increasing cloud for western counties. Light rain will move into parts of coastal Connacht and spread into west Ulster later. Other regions are likely to remain dry perhaps through the evening and overnight. Highs near 21 C east, 18 C west.

TONIGHT further outbreaks of light rain will spread across Connacht and Ulster, then break up towards morning. Lows 9 to 12 C, coolest in the inland southeast away from the cloud from the weak coastal system.

THURSDAY a stronger disturbance will form off the coast of Clare and will move slowly through parts of the west and north later in the day. This will lead to 5-10 mm rainfalls in Connacht and west Ulster. Other regions may continue largely dry with spotty showers in a few places. Rather warm and humid in the southeast. Highs 19 to 22 C.

FRIDAY will see gradual clearing and some sunny breaks especially in the central, eastern and northern counties. Lows 8-11 C and highs 18-20 C.

SATURDAY another weak Atlantic front will try to push inland but will be held off by swelling high pressure over Scotland. This will lead to partly cloudy to overcast skies and light to moderate southeast breezes, lows near 10 C and highs near 20 C. Some rain may reach the west coast then move north rather than east, not making much progress inland.

SUNDAY the remnants of the previous disturbance will be swept away to the north and all regions should enjoy a dry and partly cloudy day with lows near 9 C and highs near 21 C.

MONDAY this somewhat warm and dry regime will continue with an increase in wind speeds to moderate east to southeast 40-60 km/hr, lows around 10 C and highs around 22 C.

TUESDAY will see little change in the pattern, with similar weather to Monday.

WEDNESDAY a change to cloudier weather with outbreaks of light rain approaching the northwest coasts, possibly becoming a rather extensive rainfall producer by either Thursday or Friday 1-2 Sep, into the weekend of 3-4 Sep, but even so, heavier amounts in Ulster than other regions, with near average temperatures (17-19 C). This somewhat more active weather pattern will likely reload later in the first week of September with another frontal system moving in from the west-northwest. There could be a brief interval of cool northerly winds during the transition.

My local weather on Tuesday was partly cloudy to overcast with scattered light showers mostly over nearby hilly areas. It was rather warm with highs around 31 C.

Thursday, 25 August, 2022 ___ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS continue similar, near average to slightly warmer than normal temperatures, rainfalls fairly low especially in parts of the south and east, and sunshine trying to keep pace with normal.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be sunny at first in some parts of the east, with increasing high cloud. More overcast further west, but rain only moving in gradually towards late afternoon there. Highs around 21 C in the south and east, 18 C west and north.

TONIGHT some outbreaks of rain will develop and these will move gradually through central counties towards the east coast where it might begin to rain intermittently before sunrise. Lows 11 to 14 C.

FRIDAY some scattered remnant showers mostly in the east by now will dissipate but cloud will be fairly widespread away from sunnier parts of the inland south and west. Highs 16 to 19 C.

SATURDAY some light rain will push inland gradually but may not succeed in spreading much further than about Roscommon to northwest Cork before weakening to showers. Partly cloudy and rather warm further east. Lows near 12 C and highs 18 to 22 C.

SUNDAY will bring partly cloudy skies and east to southeast breezes with isolated showers, many places remaining dry. Lows around 10 C and highs 19 to 23 C, warmest inland west.

MONDAY and TUESDAY will see little change with partly cloudy skies, isolated showers and lows near 9 C, highs 18 to 22 C. both days.

WEDNESDAY will bring a gradual increase in cloud as rain spreads into some parts of Connacht and west Ulster. Highs 17 to 20 C.

THURSDAY (first of September) may bring heavier rainfalls to the north but the extent of this may be limited to a few showers further south, temperatures staying around 17-19 C.

The disturbance responsible for the northern rainfall will drift around to the west of Ireland and may allow the rain to spread south although weakening in terms of amounts and duration, and then eventually the system will break up leaving a fairly warm southeast flow in its place to allow temperatures to rise back into the low 20s before possibly falling back during later intervals of frontal rainfall from weak Atlantic systems.

My local weather was partly cloudy with nearby showers spreading interesting cloud formations but no rain locally, highs near 27 C.

Friday, 26 August, 2022 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS for the week of 26 Aug to 1 Sep 2022 --

-- Temperatures will average about 1 deg above normal values.

-- Rainfalls will be slight until near the end of the interval, then 10-15 mm could fall around Thursday 1st September.

-- Sunshine will likely manage to keep pace with the seasonal average of about 3.5 to 4 hours a day.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will feature a mix of cloud and sunny breaks, the cloud probably more persistent further north. Just a few light showers in parts of Ulster and possibly a few counties nearby, but most places remaining dry. Highs near 20 C south to 17 C north.

TONIGHT will be partly cloudy to overcast with lows 7 to 10 C.

SATURDAY will be rather cloudy in the west and north, rain will be sweeping by over the near Atlantic but may not make it very far inland at all, so that many parts of the eastern, central and southern counties will remain dry with a few sunny breaks. Highs 17 to 20 C.

SUNDAY will be partly cloudy with isolated showers developing in the south. An easterly breeze will develop and increase to 30-50 km/hr at times, cooling the east coast slightly. Lows near 8 C and highs 18 to 21 C, warmer values in the inland west.

MONDAY and TUESDAY will be similar also with partly cloudy skies, isolated showers with most places dry, lows each day 7 to 10 C and highs around 18 to 21 C. Moderate southeast winds 30-50 km/hr.

WEDNESDAY will bring increasing cloud and there may be outbreaks of rain in a few areas by late afternoon or evening. Lows near 12 C and highs near 19 C.

THURSDAY will be overcast with showers or intervals of rain, highs near 18 C.

From then on, the pattern becomes more unsettled, with fairly frequent rainfalls, some of them possibly becoming heavier than we have seen in most locations for several months. Guidance shows heaviest rainfalls in Connacht and Ulster in this interval.

My local weather on Thursday was partly to mostly cloudy with some passing thunderstorms drifting north to south and dropping some locally heavy rain nearby. Highs reached about 27 C.

Saturday, 27 August, 2022 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS for the week of 27 Aug to 2 Sep 2022 --

-- Temperatures will remain near normal to 1 deg above normal.

-- Rainfalls very slight until early Thursday 1st Sep, then adding up to almost normal amounts for a week in a change to wetter conditions.

-- Sunshine adequate to keep pace with normal.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be partly cloudy with best sunshine likely to be in Leinster and parts of the midlands and east Munster. A few showers in the northwest should end around mid-day with limited spread further inland. Highs 17 to 20 C.

TONIGHT will be partly cloudy with clear intervals and lows between 6 and 9 C.

SUNDAY to WEDNESDAY ... Each day will be partly cloudy to overcast in a light to moderate east-southeast wind flow, and there may be isolated showers each day forming over parts of the inland south to central counties. Most places will remain generally dry. Highs each day near 17 C east, 20 C west, a few places could reach the low 20s with enough sunshine. Nights will be cool, with lows generally 5 to 8 C, closer to 10 C in some coastal and urban areas.

By THURSDAY rain will be spreading into western counties from a disturbance forming to the northwest, and which seems likely to hang around near the west coast for several days, spinning areas of rain or showers sometimes breaking up to partly cloudy skies. This regime will persist through the weekend of 3-4 September. Highs will be around 18 C. Rainfalls of 5-10 mm a day seem likely in this change to unsettled weather.

Later the following week, some dry days likely before another stronger Atlantic system might follow.

My local weather on Friday was mostly sunny with highs in the low 30s.

Sunday, 28 August, 2022 __ Forecasts for Ireland

TRENDS remain similar, temperatures near normal values, rather dry with scattered small amounts of rain to Thursday, then a regime with more frequent heavy rainfalls, and rather cloudy overall, some sunshine each day, results perhaps a bit below normal values. Winds easterly, light to moderate, becoming southeast to south, moderate and sometimes rather strong near south coast.

    FORECASTS

TODAY will be cloudy with some brighter intervals, with a few outbreaks of drizzle or light rain, but long dry intervals in most areas. A fairly weak pulse of steady rain will develop near Cork during the late afternoon, moving northwest to south Clare. Highs generally 19 to 22 C except 17 to 19 in parts of Ulster.

TONIGHT will be partly cloudy to overcast with outbreaks of light rain or drizzle in a few places, lows 11 to 13 C.

MONDAY to WEDNESDAY will continue similar with rather cloudy skies and a few breaks in the overcast, scattered outbreaks of light rain tending to die out completely around Tuesday and Wednesday. Morning lows each day 10 to 12 C and afternoon highs 17 to 21 C.

THURSDAY will bring increasing cloud, some outbreaks of rain developing by late in the day, in western and south coast counties. Lows near 12 C and highs 18 to 21 C.

FRIDAY will be quite breezy and wet in places, 15-25 mm rain potential. Lows near 14 C and highs near 19 C. Winds southeast 40-70 km/hr.

By the weekend of 3-4 September, partly cloudy with showers, some outbreaks of heavy rain possible in east Ulster and parts of west Munster. Highs around 18 C.

Further outbreaks of rain and occasionally strong southeast winds as several more disturbances pass eastward near the south coast.

My local weather turned cooler with mostly cloudy skies, no rain but some showers on radar to our north, highs only around 20 C. This cooler air will gradually modify under sunshine the next few days and highs will return to the 30s by midweek here.
