    Hi!
I'm also experiencing crashes on 4.0.2 firmware. Latest drop-out just hours ago. At the moment we are using UMR on 4 sites, and this is a big issue as we soon are expanding the system test.

    Setup at customer site:
    - One DOVADO with HUAWEI E220 modem.
    - One small networked ARM-unit attached on LAN side
    - DOVADO instructed to keep connection alive.
    - Attached device trying to keep ssh session alive.

    Done tests:
    - SMS "RESTART" with received destination receipt, -> E220 alive.
    - No SMS response from UMR itself on "STATUS", "RESTART" and so on.

    Feature request:
    - Possible to use web interface not only from WAN side, but also from 3G side.

Noticed that its possible to upgrade router via ftp. Is this possible with active USB-modem in place? The reason is that I would like to upgrade UMR off site. Do this ftp adress need to be on LAN side?

Which firmware are you running on your Huawei E220 modem? Have you tried upgrading it?

    Sorry.
Didn't mention that in actions already taken.
Also tried different lengths and types of USB-cables, with and without extra USB-power.
(One cable didn't work at all. It proved to be a pure power cable intended for power to loudspeakers. Haven't seen that before.)

Also noticed that during the last drop-out (at least), the UMR had no lights lit while the modem was ok and responding to SMS with destination receipt.

    Assar,

Now I'm a bit confused. I think it'd be best if you dropped us a mail with everything so we can take a closer look. According to your profile, you're in Sweden. Have you tried getting in touch with us before?

    Thanks

    Yes!
    I dropped you a mail yesterday with a beta-request.
Did a (nearly) cut and paste from my first post at the bottom.
Did also get an answer in my native language urging me to wait one more week for the 4.1.
Now replying to that in a new mail!

What kind of modem and which operator are you connecting with?

When you say "crash", does that mean you can't access the Internet or can't acccess Internet+the router itself?

    Thanks
    Sorry for the delayed response.
I am using the Option icon 225 modem.

    With 4.0.2:
If i select "disconnect" from the router GUI, the modem will stop being recognized. To revive it I must power down the UMR.
The UMR GUI feels slow and unresponsive most of the time and crashes several times a day: no response to GUI input.
I downloaded the firmware again in case it was corrupted, hard reset and reflashed several times, but no improvement.

    After reverting to 3.0.6:
I have had a solid connection since my last post.
Not a single crash or disconnect
The UMR has been up more than 10 days under a sustained heavy load.
    This is exemplary reliability!

    Hi Dovado...

I recently upgraded the firmware to 4.1.0.

Have noticed that when I restart my modem via the UMR Web Config, that I do not automatically reconnect to the modem.

    I have to manually connect,

Is there a setting that I can configure to automatically connect on restart ?

    Thanks

    Hi DOVADO,

most of the italian operators charges on a weekly base, instead of every month.
It could be possible to have a weekly-base (with "Starts of the Week day" Setting) reset capability in the next firmwares?

What is it that you want to keep watch of? It is not possible to use the modem software with a router. It's only possible to use it with the modem it's designed for.

The router provides plenty of statistics such as signal status and your monthly consumption.

The 3G Watcher is the name of thr modem.

    Oh, I see!

That's a Sierra Wireless modem. Most likely something we support. Check the list on http://www.dovado.com/modems

O2 Ireland sells the 302 model, something we support in firmware 4.1.1

    Cheers

It doesn't seem like something for everyone, however we will take it into consideration, though not guarantee any development of it.

    Thanks

Bought a Dovado almost a year ago and I'm very happy with it. O2 reception varies of course.
Can I get an antenna for it? Where does it plug in?

Well, it certainly doesn't plug into the router. It'll have to plug into the modem. Try to find out which kind of contact it has and look for the right antenna. Does your operator sell any?

For mobile broadband antennas, have a look at http://antennashop.ie - same group as Panorama Antennas, nice to see an antenna specialist shop tailored to the Irish market.

I have recently changed my usb broadband from 3 ireland because it didnt support text messages to o2 with the new sierra wireless usb 302

    My settings are below

    Country -Ireland
    Operator - o2
    apn - open.internet
    usb model - sierra wireless 3g - 302
    modem firmware - K2_0_7_11AP C::WS:FW:K2_0_7_11AP:MSM6290:SRC 2009:08:18 16:47:27
    Product Name: Dovado UMR
    Serial Number: 16a6109078
    Product Number: 629110327005-4
    Product Revision: 1.0
    Reported Download Status: Upgraded successfully
    USB Modem: Sierra Wireless 3G
    Firmware Revision: 4.1.1.1356 official
    Firmware build date: 2009-12-17T09:52:45Z

I have updated the dovado to the new firmware as shown.
When i run the usb dongle direct to my laptop it will send and receive text messages fine but when it runs through the router it does nothing.
I have checked and added the correct o2 service centre number as shown when it plugged directly to laptop.( 00353868002000) makes no difference.
The dongle therefore will only not send or receive texts when connected to Dovado...
Now what things should i check aside from the tick to accept sms message settings which i set a whole back.
I have been through all the settings a few times and cannot seem to get to the bottom of it.....
    Scratch scratch.
I need to use the system to get "status" texts and therefore the ip number so as i can then run remote desktop from my iphone when away from home.

    Any ideas?:(

Just saw the supported modems page and read "sms service not supported for the sierra wireless 302"
Damn should have read this before i bought the little nifty bugger.
Any ideas if you will ever be supporting sms for this puppy... or is it back to the shop and buy 888 model ?

when you plug the modem into the router, will the router connect the modem to the internet automatically or will this have to be done on a pc? i only ask as i want to go on xbox live but do not want to have to boot pc every time:confused:

    Hi Greycrow

Once the initial configuration of the UMR is complete, it will make the mobile broadband connection automatically - no need to boot your PC every time.

    Hi muffo

If you have switched operators, say from 3 to Vodafone, you'll need to configure the correct Access Point Name (APN) on the UMR

hs.vodafone.ie (may work just for billpay dongles)
internet (try this on a prepay dongle)

Ultimately the correct APN can be discovered by viewing the profile settings that come pre-installed on the modem's software.

Let us know how you get on as with the relatively recent advent of pay as you use mobile broadband in Ireland, information on Access Point Names will be useful to other users.

Many thanks. That worked. I presume that if I want to revert to 3, I simply delete the hs.vodafone.ie from the UMR.

I have a Dovado UMR that I have been using successfully with a Meteor Pay as you go Broadband. Everything seems to be working apart from the part of the setup where I wish for the unit to send me an email message after x amount of usage. Setting up the email using settings that I know to work in other email clients, I have had no luck using using my google apps or gmail email addresses. I get no error, it simply reports the test email as having been sent but I do not receive anything.

Has anyone got this to work? Is this feature active in the latest (4.1.1) version of the firmware. Router and modem details follow.

Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give.

Gmail uses SSL encryption, which isn't currently supported. Many devices do not support SSL at first. Have you checked if you can use Meteor's SMTP server, perhaps?

    Hi Dovado,

Many thanks for your expectedly quick reply. I have been trying all day to get the mail working using various different settings including both my existing ISP's but without much success.

When looking around to try to find Meteor's SMTP settings I found someone who suggested using eircoms smtp server and I have found that this one does work with the router (hurrah). I would however be more comfortable if I were using Meteor's as they are the modem provider. If you have any ideas as to how i can find this out (are they likely to tell me if I ask?) I would be grateful.

For now at least I have it working, and working very nicely too.

    Thanks again for your help.

    Regards,

    Jon.
