I agree that the show turned out as it should have but I disagree that Laura had the biggest vocal range. Frankly I think you need a relaxing ear candling session.
Seriously get your ears candled it is mad relaxing.
I had my ears candled last month

I think its crap the fans are bringing Jeffs back into the charts, the only person benefiting from the royalties is his mother and the record company.

Looks like he needs all the royalties he can get after his wife ripped him off for a couple of mil. Bet hes saying hallejuah my arse.

And who do you think is benefitting from sales of Alexandra's single? You can bet your arse she won't make a cent off it!

Read a very interesting article last week saying the winner of X Factor gets a £60,000 record contract (for their first album) and they make absolutely nothing off it. They pay back everything they earn for recording time etc.

Eoghan will more than likely release an album that'll do ok, then a bit of Panto/Stage work and then get a a job presenting some type of kids shows on BBC Northern Ireland.

Apart from her Christmas number one you won't hear much from Alexandra until this time next year when she'll have an album out. And I'm quite sure it'll make the number one spot. After that I'm sure she'll be as successful as any other "successful" talent show contestant.

Carrie Underwood-11million album sales, member of the grand ol opry,2 grammys and fastest selling country album debut ever.
Leona Lewis-first british woman to be number one in the states for 20 years, debut album number one on the billboard chart.
Will Young-number one singles and albums,8 brit award nominations
Kelly Clarkson-4m album sales, grammy award nominations.

its crazy talk to say we wont hear from these people again. The show is cleverly staged and set up etc but its has also given us 4 bona fide stars or in Leona and Carrie underwood superstars.(You dont have to like their music or them to appreciate how big they are)

Ah yeah, but for every Will Young, Carrie Underwood and Leona Lewis, there'll be a Michelle McManus, Hear'Say and Liberty X. These shows aren't a magic bullet to instant success and riches.

all these people spend most of the time doing old songs.

What happened to Rihanna performing at the final with JLS? Anyone know why she wasnt there?

Do her and Beyonce not get along?

Dat was nothin but a rumour from the start

As for artists makin money off an album:

They get 15% of the album sales, with the rest funding the recording costs, video, promotion etc

they'll also make loads goin on TV shows to promote the album

Record companies absolutely rape recording artists for their first deal. The artist takes the hit for all promotions, recording costs, etc. A lot of contracts also have a clause for "Cross Collateralisation" (I think that's what it's called?) which means any monies made on the first album can be used to recoup any losses on the second album. But in fairness to the record companies (you won't hear me saying that too often!) they have to take the hit if the artist doesn't sell anything from their first release.

Why does everybody keep quoting me on that? The point I was making was that she will be successful relative to the success that a Talent Show winner gets. Most of the people you listed are the exceptions rather than the rule. And even at that, only a small minority release their own stuff, relying heavily on covers.

Louis Walsh was talking on Spin 103.8 on Saturday afternoon, he said Rihanna had been booked but she cancelled during the week!

I know she isnt Basquille, I know this all because my ex got a recording contract few years back, they were in so much debt for recording time alone, and the distribution fees. I know how much it can cost, and believe me, after being with him for so long and seeing the real side to it all, the sugar coating isnt there at all for me.

I think Laura needed the exposure, she sings in bars regularly for few bobs anyway.

As for the re-release, or whatever, I dont care abouts it anymore so I dont. Its all meh. What the hell am I going to do on Saturday nights now? It was a great excuse to stay in and cuddle up and be left alone.

    Pub.

I read today that the Jeff Buckley version is challenging Alex's for number one. I'd love to see it get the number one.

Kelly Clarkson has artistic control over her album and either wrote or co wrote all the material on her album my december which sold 2 million albums.
Will young is a co writer on all his stuff.
Leona does stuff that is written for her.
Carrie Underwood is the exception as being part of Nashville she has a team of writers and players as is the way in that genre. She is credited with a co write on 4 of her songs on her 2nd album.

Its unfair to suggest that these performers either just do covers or old says as stated elsewhere.
Xfactor and Idol are not the breeding ground of the future stars but they have given us a few major talents.

Madonna,Pink,Rhianna just a few names of recent pop stars that dont write their own stuff all the time and have world class producers and co writers at least. The audience these winners are aimed at dont care if they write their own stuff.
Celine dion etc seem to have done ok from it.Just because it not mine or yours taste doesnt mean its awful.

JLS and Eoghan performed at the Childline Concert and they were so well over with the crowd - bigger than lead act Boyzone even

Ugh, this Jeff Buckley jazz is doin me head in!!!!

Gary from SP said it himself [re Leona doin Run]
That's what you want a song to do ... Different interpretations and meanings. Songs aren't monolithic, at least the good ones aren't

Listened to Eoghan at the child line concert and he can actually sing. As people have said before I think Simon Cowell went with the wrong angle for him.

I would like to see him do well and get something out of the show because for a young 16 year old he really is holding his own.

People will probably disagree with this opinion but wouldn't it have been better in the long-run if Eoghan had won. Reason being that Alexandra will get a contract regardless, we already have Leona Lewis in the charts and Cowell is going to model Alexandra like Leona Lewis. I just believe Eoghan could have been different for all of today's type of music genera's.
