I was in Sligo at the weekend and walking down by Riverside - the new bridge is going to ruin such a nice area of town.

It's ironic there's so much talk about climate change but then in Sligo there going to destroy an area of natural beauty to make way for a bridge to facilitate cars/trucks etc..

In fairness, be old and grey before that goes ahead, even if it does. They're only after adding a pontoon in for the waterbus on that site

such a pity they can't have a walk bridge over to Hazelwood from riverside .. that would be brilliant .. would really open up Hazelwood to locals

Or alleviate a large portion of traffic that would otherwise have needed to go through the town centre. That bridge will give access to the Abbeyquarter/Cranmore side of town almost direct access to the routes to the North of town without them needing to go through the subpar road network in town.

There's far nicer places in Sligo (county) than the Riverside, and while calling a place of 'natural beauty' is subjective, building a bridge has no more effect than building one elsewhere has on combating climate change.

Fair enough - it will be great for more direct access for traffic.
However, it's a nice area/route for walking etc.. (less than 10 minute walk of the town centre) and putting a new bridge will take away from this.

I think it's a backwards step clogging up a quiet part of town with more traffic.

According to the design the riverside walkway will go under the bridge. Until such time as there's a direct route from carraroe down to there via brownes field there's not likely to be a significant increase in traffic I can't imagine

This. Until it gets directly linked to a main artery road it's only half the story and the real benefit won't be realised.

Whats going to happen with the existing road from Oakfield (Murrays shop) to Carraroe roundabout? Will that remain in use after the new road has been completed?

There should be a roundabout built that will still give you access to the oakfield road. I think it's roughly on that road where the current work is taking place where they have their own construction intersection. It's estimated to be completed by Summer 2020. Sligo University Hospital seems to have been sued/lost a lot of cases lately on the news and have had to pay out millions and hundreds thousands of euros in cases I have been reading lately. I think a case of the around 84 Y/O man who was admitted to the hospital and renal failure overlooked or not treated in time and other stuff , and a 12 Y/O boy who sued them for problems when he was born there and then a few years back of a local 9 Y/O sued the hospital and got around 5 million , mother got sent home when he was in the womb and something wasnt picked up by the hospital.

I realise that the payouts must come from the Hospitals insurance but i still wonder how they can still survive with loosing this amount money and what effect it has on the hospital in question - its huge payouts we are talking of for a relitively small Hospital ...

If they supposedly keep carrying on with the negligence and keep making mistakes
and errors and keep getting sued, you don't know how correct you might be saying it might shut down!!

I missed out on a claim there meself 10 years ago that I didn't do anything about. I was admitted for bad sciatica, and when I was in they were giving me heparin into my stomach to stop blood clots because I could hardly move, then they discharged me with nothing. Started getting a pain in my right leg , they said it was the sciatica sent me home, it was the start of DVT and then over the course of next couple of days it travelled up to my chest , pain was unbearable, had an xray and 2 blood clots were heading for my heart and lungs, it was pulmonary embolism , nearly killed me.

Although i dont believe in all this suing culture really , I still think from time to time how much the payout would be if I would have pursued it and went to a solicitor, Too late now , I should have got the ball rolling at the time.

Pretty sure all these people sued the HSE, not the hospital.

i do presume that local hospitals are held accountable though still, and investigated if there is a catalogue of errors and claims?

In my humble opinion you wouldn't have stood a chance of getting a claim with what you have described. Many many people have had much worse and got on with it. Sh1t, happens, it's life. The compo culture is a sickener.

I'm sure if you contact a legal specialist they'd say the same. I'd park it and forget about it.

oh I parked it ages ago and didnt go ahead ahead with anything apart from writing a letter to the management of the hospital, of course it was on file .. in the bin most probably , but some people told me i should have contacted someone legal at the time

Callan Tansey - seem to be the ones that take on the HSE claims and seem to win most cases it seems

why cant there be or isn't there a Westlife Museum or permanent Westlife Exhibition in Sligo - you know like a proper designated building or even a decent enough section in the model building?

They are a huge hit around the world and I think it would be good for attracting tourists - if Liverpool can have tourism for the Beatles then i cannot see why Sligo cannot have the same (not putting westlife in the same level as the Beatles BTW lol )

I like them and most of their songs, I wouldnt personally be what you could call a 'fan' , and I have never been to any of their concerts or anything but i know they have massive fans around the world (well in this country and the UK too) that would most probably love to visit a place like this in Sligo.
It could also have an onsite shop selling cups and other merchandise of the band for people to buy and take away with them.

I dunno i just think such a success for Sligo but nothing really , apart from the murial in town to celebrate or promote them in the town they came from (bar 1)

Or is this another one of my silly ideas?

I think it's a good idea.

I always thought Sligo needs one or two more indoor heritage/history things to do around the town or improve some of the places they have already.
The museum is quite small and poor.

Does the Yeats building have a good exhibition on Yeats?
The National Library in Dublin had a really impressive exhibition looking at Yeat's life and influences etc.. - be great to see something similar in Sligo.
