Am at work at the moment and there is someone outside my office earwigging so sent an email earlier but still nothing.
They are open till 9pm tonight right?
What county are you in btw?

Its the O2 shop in Castlebar, they don't open till 9.30am

But at least you know they are holding it.
I really need to phone the shop but wont be home till after 6 and have no idea what time they open in the morning:eek:

They're not allowed release them till the morning though :(

Call me cynical, but I think I've spotted an amazing coincidence: they won't sell them before the launch date.

Think I may be on to something here:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Does anyone know what 02's take is on unlocking the iPhone i.e. one purchased with their 18 month contract?

Will they provide the unlock code at the end of the 18 month contract or possible earlier?

there is no such thing as an unlock code for an iphone.

Does the iPhone have a "flight mode" ie can you turn off the phone features?

Yes it does. Absolutely nothing will function until activated online with itunes though. Only thing that works is the on/off button.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,114 ✭✭✭Pacifico

You mean you have to activate the flight mode on iTunes??

No the flight mode can be toggled on and off on the phone itself.

Its very handy, probably one of the features i used most. I know its fantastic to have the phone and ipod all in one but it does get frustrating when you just want to listen to your music and people keep txting or calling you. Its nice to just have an ipod back after a while.

I just meant that nothing can be done on the iphone until its either jailbroken or activated correctly on itunes.

Yep.. unfortunately I have a tendency to put Airplane Mode on at night and completely forget to take it off until mid-day the next day (after being at work for 3 or 4 hours)! :D

    Ah right, cheers.

Hmmm dunno whether to get one on 02 or buy one in the states.......

Theyre robbery on O2 id get one in the States.

Out of curiosity i cant wait to see how difficult O2 make it to buy over the counter here without signing a contract. In the states you can say your buying one as a gift for somebody and as long as you pay by CC they will give you one no problem. Can see nothing but hassle from O2 for anybody trying to buy one to unlock.

I'm presuming you will be able to buy them direct from Apple.ie tomorrow like the Uk and US store.

    Nope.. apparently not!

    Only available in O2 stores.

    What about O2 online then?

Juicy glad i'm not looking for one. Ah it will only be a matter of time before they run out of loonatics willing to pay €1200 for one and they have to start selling them contract or not over the counter.

Can just see the conversations when the strict rules are lifted:
"Oh its a present for your dad you say, god some very lucky dads out there, your the 36th one today"

i'd imagine you'll have no problems getting one on o2 online, as you basically agree to the contract online.

I paid my deposit for a 16GB, and the guy said if they were no available on the day that I could get my money back or take an 8GB. Thing is I just looked at my receipt there and it says deposit paid against an 8GB, only noticed that now.. damn him!! I wanted 16 ffs. Cross++

I believe on the contrary, I believe Apple does have unlock codes, since in some countries, it is required by law to provide unlock codes. I believe in France, this coming June, the first customers who signed up 6 months ago will be entitled to the Unlock codes. Just wondering if 02 had any policy to do the same. Probably not :(

Apple and T-Mobile are now selling the iPhone in Austria. The iPhone is being sold for 399 euro (8GB) and 499 euro (16GB) with the following plans:

    - 39 euro/mo "Classic" - 3GB data / 1000 Minutes / free T-Mobile Wifi
    - 55 euro/mo "Supreme" - 3GB data / 4000 Minutes* / 1000 SMS / free T-Mobile Wifi

    * 4000 Minutes split across different types of calls (in network, out of network etc...)

    Isn't the Paddy tax wonderful.

They were only ever taking deposits on the 8gb, not the 16gb which will be handed out on a first come first serve basis. If you've got your deposit slip which says 8gb on it and they have a 16gb available when you're in the store, you can get the 16gb if you want. There was no way to reserve 16gb models.

Hmmm...walking past at 9:10 this morning and there were about 5 people in store. From the photos there were about 8-10. There are normally 4-5 customers/browsers in store anyway so this launch really has been a success:rolleyes:

What was really funny was there was a cameraman outside...he had nothing to film. Wonder how much he cost for the morning?

You can also purchased the iPhone on 02.ie - those who don't want to buy in a shop!

Does anyone know if there is any incentives buying from CW as opposed to an 02 shop?

Theres been a lot on the news yesterday and today about complaining about tarriffs and hopefully 02 will change their plans as by the looks of this two things have happened... 1) it was released too late and most people who were going to buy one didn't hold out 2) people just aren't convinced to sing up to that awful 18month tarriff. Hope 02 will change fairly quickly. How come they offer free texts on prepay and im sure some free calls( i dont know?) but not on bill pay?

    Anyone here buy one?

Yep, I got my 16GB this morning at 9.
I was on Bill Pay with meteor for about two years so tbh the 18 month contract doesn't bother me.
The thing that used to kill me was international texts but on O2 the web texts can be sent to internatinal numbers:)
Mine is still in the box as I am at work now so will have to wait till I get home to set it up . Was using the one on display in the shop this morning and its great:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,081 ✭✭✭su_dios

See the problem is..at the moment I pay 50eur meteor bill pay for free calls to any meteor, free texts to meteor, 300free mins to any network and I'm supposed to be getting 150free texts with the new offer too. The free calls I use a lot.. particularly just the one number. Does 02 do something similar ie. phone a friend for free?

Open it up there at lunch time:D

Did you have to pay with a credit card? I know there were rumours circulating that you would have to. But I suspect thats only for itunes
