Will Flash or Java work on a Jaibreak iphone?

Looks good mate. You went for the 16GB? Just have the 8GB meself.. would have went for the 16GB if i didn't already have a 30GB Zen! :D

Still have about 30 albums on it anyways in case my Zen runs outta batteries (which it did today).

    Hi,
Just read on the O2 website that pay monthly customers can upgrade to the iphone regardless of eligibilty of an upgrade. They require a 100 euro deposit and an itunes account. I was just wondering if anybody knows how much the upgrade will cost or is it free? If I have to change tariff will I lose my current free minutes that I have built up etc.
I know it would be better to ring O2 but there lines are busy all morning.
    Any info would be appreciated.
    Cheers.

Have to admit the seller well impressed me (browsed loads) he will even take it back restore it to out of box nu so it can be returned for warranty work. Not many like that on Ebay.

It means anyone can upgrade - you pay full price regardless, i.e. 399 or 499 yo-yos.

oh, I got the impression that they were offering a free or cheap upgrade.
So its not an upgrade offer, its the same as buying the phone at full price?

Everyone pays full price, new or exisiting customer, whether you have an upgrade due or not.

Yeah its full price regardless of your situation. It doesn't affect your upgrade status at all. So if you're currently eligible for an upgrade, you can buy an iPhone for full price and you'll still have your upgrade, which you can use to get something else if you needed to, for some reason.

O2 are promoting it as giving you the ability to use your upgrade and get a "back-up" phone, but that just sounds ridiculous.

no point in having mms when the camera is ****e, which it is on the iPhone. My old w810i's 2mp still runs rings around it. Get an n95 and an iPod touch, best of both worlds!

Actually i have read a few reviews (infosyncworld.com and cnet) while 2mp isnt great for a camera the iphone fares well and i'll have to agree wholeheardly with Basquille mms is a waste of time when you can send an email to almost any fone with full resolution pictures and text Much Cheaper! :D
i like the n95 but my heart wants an iphone.
    Horses for courses :)

I think 2 or 3.2 mp is the sweetspot for phones, anything higher just results in noise. Besides MMS scales images to vga so having a high resolution camera in that regard is pointless.

As for Flash can't see it coming anytime soon.
As Jobs put it Tuesday during the company's annual shareholder meeting, Apple's iPhone, with all its cutting-edge mobile Internet trickery, needs something much better than the current Flash player that Adobe makes for cellphones. The Flash Player option that fits the bill is made for devices like laptops that are larger than the iPhone; as a consequence, it performs too slowly on the iPhone, he said.

Can't agree with Jobs here, if nokia can get it running on their phones Apple shouldn't have any difficulty. He has an agenda here, whether this is relating to the rumours on MS Silverlight I don't know.

I wouldn't hold my breath on the warranty promise there was a company in ireland promising to honour warranties but AFAIK that did not happen

Besides Apple will not honour a warranty on an unactivated phone and depending on what unlock method the seller is using it amy not be possible to return the phone to out of the box condition

Although Sun intend developing Java for the iphone without being asked by Apple so it is possible that Adobe might do the same with flash

are ya sure about this as someone quoted on a different thred that it resets your upgrade to zero so use your upgrade before ya get the i phone

Wrong i'm afraid. If you have an upgrade use it first before buying the iphone. If you have an upgrade and get the iphone you will loose your upgrade as the new tarriff will reset your account and your spend history will revert to zero, thus loosing your upgrade. It sucks big time, but if you have an upgrade use it BEFORE buying the iphone

The iPhone runs Mac OSX. The Adobe Flash player for the Mac is one of the most inefficient pieces of computer code around. Whenever I have a page with a Flash banner ad or another Flash heavy web page, my Macbook Pro gets really hot and the processor has to work really hard. The Flash code seems optimised for Windows and the Mac version must have been a poor afterthought for Adobe. I can understand that that version just isn't good enough for a portable device such as the iPhone. I would suck battery power and run slow. I think Apple is pushing Adobe to come up with something significantly better - properly optimised code.

Jesus.. that's just you mate!

My MacBook has no problem with Flash!

It runs a variant of the OSX kernal, it's no more running Leopard or Tiger than a palm is running XP. I've never had a problem with flash, even with my old Rev D ibook.

There a lot of less powerful mobile devices that run flash without bother.

As someone who makes a living selling phones, and seeing all the stuff that's tacked onto the iPhone contract and t's and c's, it's not going to take off here.

    e399 for the 8 gig
    e499 for the 16 gig

Have to have a chip and Pin credit card to buy it
Cant pay in store with a cheque
Must be an 18 month contract
    Only a 12 month warranty
    Minimum tariff of e65 p/month
    Only on o2
    Jailbreaking voids warranty

    Epic Fail, mark my words

    Chip & PIN credit card ?? That's a new one. :D
Can't pay with a cheque? It gets better ... ya what?
    - Are these actualy T&C?

As for the min tariff .. it's €45/month.

The e45 tarriff is a rip off, trust me, i've been to the launch prep and it's all a load of crap.

Yes, everything I have said is in the T's and C's and there's more. Just wait til friday!

The €45 tarriff will do me rip off or not, I probably wont even use all those minutes anyway so there is no way I am paying €65.
For me paying with credit card is not a problem either.

Do you know if there is going to be a proper launch or will the O2 stores have it in stock as soon as they open on Friday?

18mth contract/12 month warranty is a bit of a laugh

Credit card only doesn't sound great either.
Are you sure the minimum tarriff is 65 though- i thought it was lower (like 45 or something).

The more i read the small print with this device though the more i'm inclined to agree with brianblaze above.

€45 tarriff has 1gb included and 175 mins. The normal tarriff (active life 150) with a 1gb add on would cost €50 and only get 150 mins, how is this a rip off?

Checked this with my deposit and they should have stock on Thursday evening for Friday morning, but they didn't know if there would be any stores open early

I doubt it will be an epic fail, but as it is so long since the original launch of the iphone, that many people who wanted one would have gotten one by now. For everyone else it's their if they want it and when i was putting my deposit down at least five other people were also enquiring so seems to be demand

Thanks for that, I will need to be late for work on Friday then ;)

I don't think it will fail either, I put my deposit down on the Saturday after it was announced and the girl in the O2 store said there was a huge demand at that shop and that was 2 days after the announcement.
The only thing is at that point they were olnly taking deposits on the 8GB and not the 16GB.
Is it still the same story?
I would have thought they would try to push the 16GB .

I pre-ordered mine in Dundrum on Thursday (with cash) and asked if i had to pay the balance with credit card... He said no, i could pay with cash or Laser too.

I also asked if they were holding out until 6:00pm or if it would be launched in the morning, he said they morning.
