Not for down here in North wexford ;)

@snowbie, yeah you are right I suppose in a straight easterly.

Mindy you aberystwith to mothman in a straight easterly is not to be snuffed at it's a longish enough trek for showers.

Historically though here the heaviest shower train has always been in a north Easterly and that would be making maximum use of the length of theI rish sea.

The only other thing I'd say is ...how often have you seen showers in the irish sea and the wind has been north or northwestwasrds with no hope of them making land fall in Ireland and instead being robbed by north and west wales.
This time what ever is out there will make landfall.

@ Kippure,I don't know what measurement equipment you were using but I'd check the circuit panel on it.
Theres absolutely no way that the temp on kippure could have been -2c today.
    +2c maybe but not -2c

artictree didnt go below 5c during the afternoon and he's at 820ft not too far south of kippure and you are reckoning that it was 7c colder on kippure 1800 or 1900ft higher up?
I've climbed many a mountain in my time, but I've yet to see one in Ireland measure 7c colder at the top compared with the bottom.

    It's not the himalaya's you know :D

    2484 feet asl.

And i stand by them readings.

    :)

Why does the uk metoffice radar show showers over north leinster(confirmed by snowbie too) but the metreireann radar shows nothing? They have the same data source:confused:

On the met.ie site, there are anaprops over the Dub mtns but true the UK site shows up the showers albeit light for sure.

Unknown really, ours uses the pixalated image while uk have a smooth version, could be something also to do with it?
Or maybe our site only picks a certain minimal type of intensity up?

Is there anyway to fix the anaprop echoes? They have been showing up on the radar over the mts. for as long as I can remember.

Clearer air moving up from England, should be cold and frosty tonight inland. Snow unlikely apart from the far north.

interesting taf for Dublin airport :-

    EIDW 021600Z 030024 09018KT 9999 FEW018 BKN030
    TEMPO 0012 09020G32KT

    BECMG 1821 03007KT SCT012 BKN020
    PROB30
    TEMPO 2024 5000 -RA BKN010

Slight chance of some light rain between 20:00 and 24:00 this evening, that anaprop most have some meat on it so. Some areas might even see some white stuff from that.
Don't see anything like that down in Wicklow though.

I should add that it seems to be showing a movement to the NE also (030), that would definitly enhance our prospects along the east coast.

    I think meteireann updated the forecast a little;
"Thursday will be windy and bitterly cold with broken cloud. Many places will be dry but wintry showers will develop in eastern and southern counties, giving a dusting of snow over high ground. Fresh to strong, easterly winds throughout with highest temperatures of only 3 to 6 degrees Celsius."

Seen the RTE forecast about an hour back with Karina, she mentioned snow on the east coast, nothing about inland areas at all.

EDIT: Seems the snow has reached the UK anyway, from Netweather:
"well the snow has arrived on the east coast AND ALSO NORTH WEST ENGLAND HAS HEAVY SNOW SHOWERS!!!!"

Looking at the radar though there doesnt seem to be anything that would suggest heavy showers?

I don't believe them. There was something wrong. There couldnt possibly be a 7c, thats seven celcius difference between 820ft asl a few miles as the crow flies south of you and 2500ft asl on kippure.

As I say I've climbed mountains the length and breadth of the land, that height and higher and I haven't even seen at most a 5c difference between sea level and there even if snow is falling never mind a 7 c difference..

But anyhow,I'm just stating what I think and I'd say any regular mountaineer would concur.
    Check your instruments :)

Meanwhile dp's and air temps still dropping very slowly with the wind almost half way to its full veer East at this stage.

A snow day off work would do nicely on Friday :), I'll be keeping my eyes glued to my webcam tomorrow in work and am scurrying home at the first sign of whiteness!!

John Cox on NW has a station in Plamerstown which has a dew point of 1.8c already, he also reckons Kippure has a 90% of seeing snow. http://leinster.earth.prohosting.com/

Longfield has a dew point of 0.7 down from 2.5c since 3pm!

I think dolan bakers is the lowest  http://dolanbaker.info/weather/wx.htm
(he must have the same instrument supplier as kippure (sorry couldnt resist-just a friendly joke :D))

Looking at all the live data along the East coast now the dew points are dropping rapidly to in or about 1c to 1.5c at sea level.
Should be easily sub zero tomorrow hopefully :)

He,s absoloutly right. On killikee road the temp was 3.5 to 4c. Down into glencree it rose near 5c, back up to kippure it dropped off to 3c. That whole area into sallys gap is one huge basin that traps the cold.

I can be 100% sure come tomorrow night there,ll be lying snow.

And as the cold zonal flow comes in, im confident off a trans snow event.

From the veiwing point at killikee carpark on into wicklow, the roads will be very dangerous.

Already when i was heading up there , gritters were out spreading salt and sand.

    Ill take photos as usual.

    Black briar im LMAO.:D:D:p

3.7c here now. Dew Point is -0.2

So is that it - am I in business if I get precip? Temp seems a bit high. In the past it has to be usually below 2c here for snow. Needs to be at or below 1c to stick.

Any chance of getting a shower tonight?

Of course theres going to be snow lying on kippure tomorrow,it just needs one decent shower up at 2500ft and every bit of the place will turn white and it should have more than that.I'd be expecting three rock to have a coating by tomorrow evening and thats a good bit lower down.

Predicting lying snow on Kippure tomorrow is like predicting that the pope is going to fart.
Both probabilities are near 100% :D

I'd say your elevation and proximity to the coast means you might just about catch a clipper if you're lucky tonight, probably a fair chance tomorrow though.
I'd be surprised to see anything here tbh tonight.

    Uhm
patience my good man...it's not as if your thermometer has stopped falling!
You do realise tomorrow is to be colder don't you :)
Asking the temp to drop another 2 degrees by tomorrow at your location is not a big ask and it will happen.
