    Thanks for the help!

    It's for this game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pro_Evolution_Soccer_2008

    :)

The specs I posted are recommended, not minimum, but I'm not going to decide what laptop to get based on the game, it would just be nice to be able to play it if I did get a new one.

Any idea how much a Dell with similar spec to what I posted above would be?

See the above spec is my current laptop, but it's not in the best shape so I'm considering upgrading/replacing if the price is right.

The Vostro will run Pro Evo 08 perfectly for € 796.89 including delivery.....For that spec its a steal imo....

Cpu is top end for a laptop and will wipe the floor with a last generation cpu like a p4 3.0ghz.....Graphics card is good, decent amount of ram, hard drive etc...

Its perfect for what you want really...If you have well over a grand spare, then of course you should go with something like a GeForce 7950 GTX/8700gt....But they are not worth it imo and the vostro above is a great little gaming laptop...

Thanks a lot for that:) but is that not A LOT better than what I already have? I don't need something that powerful/expensive:o

How much would it be with say 1GB of ram and a much smaller HD (I have a 500GB external HD so I don't need that much on board and I pretty much back up everything to that, and then back that up to another 500gb HD;))

I want to spend as little as possible but don't want one worse than my current laptop. Is that a dual layer DVD burner by the way? :)

    Get a Vostro..

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,836 ✭✭✭✭cormie

What's the story with Vostros anyway? What's being sacrificed to give a cheaper price?

  • Registered Users Posts: 465 ✭✭Iristxo

In what way would a Vostro be better? As far as I can see selecting a Vostro with a camera will work out more expensive and if I add on the extra memory (the Intel Turbo memory) that the FUJITSU has then it will work out A LOT more expensive. Isn't the graphics card in the FUJITSU better as well? Plus it comes with Vista Premium (which I won't use anyway but it's nice to have the option I suppose). Plus I tend to trust FUJITSU SIEMEMS better than DELLS... I know some people say Dells are very good but there's also people who say they're very bad! Does the Vostro have integrated speakers and an integrated miscrophone?

Can you elaborate why you think the Vostro is better?

  • Registered Users Posts: 20,836 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Where is that Fujitsu for sale? I'm not too fond of Dell either, used to work for them;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 465 ✭✭Iristxo

    Hey Cormie

Sorry would have posted it as a bargain alert if it was available for everyone. It's not really. It's a Spanish place and you need to collect it to get that price. Delivered it's 12 quid more but they only deliver to Spanish addresses, not abroad. As it is, the website is only in Spanish. It's "www.pccity.es". I'm spanish and have friends travelling to me next week, they'll collect and bring it over to me. Have heard the customer service is very good in case anything goes wrong.

A friend that does not know a lot said he heard once that FUJITSU are not that good either. But have heard from more than one person that Dells are not great. So I have so far more negatives about Dells than about FUJITSUS. And a negative opinion from someone who used to work for them counst as three ;)

Sorry I can't be more help. I wonder do Ibood or one of them guys (which ones do laptops?) have any nice deals in laptops.

Nothing wrong with the Futjistu, its a nice little laptop...But in terms of brute performance it cant touch the vostro above it...

The 2.0ghz 800mhz fsb Core 2 Duo in the vostro, wipes the floor with the 1.5ghz fujitsu cpu.One is a performance/medium level dual core cpu while the other is an entry level chip, with a cost difference of about €150...

The graphics chip in the fujitsu is very weak and is no way near a 8600gt....Its a brand new chip yet doesnt even feature dx10 which says it all really...

So it really comes down to what you want from a laptop...

If its performance/gaming/multimedia powered laptop your looking for...then its Dell all the way.A €150 more expensive cpu and €100 more expensive graphics chip makes it the much more attractive buy imo...

    Sqaull20,

Thanks so much for that info. I don't know that much so could not tell all that. Appreciated.

Makes it easier for me really, don't live in Spain and in case of returns etc y could get a bit messy. Might go for the vostro but perhaps not inmediately. Might wait a while. Just wondering it just seems so good value with that discount code, say if I waited a while with a bit of luck there will a be a similar code for a similar spec laptop thus getting it a bit cheaper and all that? Well hopefully anyway.

    Thanks all for your help.

Could somebody explain why Vostros are the best value please? They have to have some cons, otherwise wouldn't dell just get rid of their inspiron/latitude/whatever other ranges they have and just push the Vostros?

And what's the best alternative to Dell?

How did you get that Nvidia 8600 in the Vostro?

mmm im thinking the same thing, think she got her price wrong

    The code is 305-N1015003

with the above spec €845.29. So im thinking it was a typo

  • Registered Users Posts: 465 ✭✭Iristxo

I just went in through "small business", and selected the vostro with the Intel T7250. It appears first as 609 I think, then when you select it you get 789 or so with an extended guarantee period and all that, reduce the guarantee period and you get back to the 609, the one I selected went up by 40 euros because I got "truelife" for the screen and an integrated camera.

Vostro 1500 NB (N1015003). Is that the code?

Anyone know about the integrated microphone and speakers and the wireless capability?

  • Registered Users Posts: 465 ✭✭Iristxo

No Typo that I can see. Just did it again.

Went in through "small business". Does that make a difference? I heard someone say before, just say you work on AIB or whatever. Select the vostros then select the 1500 range. You get different prices for the different processors, I selected the Intel T7250 and the base price is 609 but once you go into the specs price goes up to 768, with an extended guarantee period (3 Year Business Hardware Support - Next Business Day). Deselect this and select a basic guarantee and goes back to the 609. As I said before, my selected spec goes up by 50 quid cos I selected truelife and an integrated camera.

    And I'm a she :)

Forgetting about pro evo 8, what will the best value Vostro cost with as similar spec to this cost:

Aspire 5021WLMi AMD Turion ML28 1.6Ghz (35W), Microsoft½ Windows½ XP Home, 15.4" WXGA Acer CrystalBrite, 128MB ATI X700, 512MB (2*256), 100GB, DVD Dual double layer, LiIon, Gigabit Ethernet & wireless 802.11g , 6-in-1 card reader.

That's my laptop and it's fine for what I use it for so I wouldn't really be interested in splashing out on extras I don't need.

    Any help appreciated:)

That looks good.Only thing is that im wondering whether it is worth getting one year of accidental support which will cost an extra 75.Is it worth getting or not?
Also is the 8600 geforce graphics card alot better than the 8400 for gaming?
