    Thanks TheDriver.

Yep it's the name for dual core amds.

athlon is the cheaper dual core while turion is the apparently better one, look for the symbols TL54 or TL56 etc.

So how come I can only see the Vostro when I choose the small business section and not the home user section? Is it possible for me to buy from the business section (prices quoted ex vat etc.) and how does EPP work, is it some sort of extra discount?
    cheers

vostro are buisness machines. You can order them.
EPP is for business employees buying home machines through dell.

    I think that's it anyway :)

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,434 ✭✭✭✭TheDriver

All these questions have been asked many times before if you search but the answer, EPP is when employees of say AIB or BOI want a computer personally at home (nothing to do with work) but get roughly 8% off a home pc as perk of working for their employer. Lot of people order through epp scheme even though they don't work for included company as it is rarely checked up upon. www.dell.ie/epp. Doesn't work for vostro as its a business machine.

Anyone can buy avostro as dell consider it a sell no matter who buys, its merely focused at the business market with the service packages and offerings with it. Watch out for ex VAT prices and also have a look on dmxdimension.com, I found they had all the current valid evalue codes (put in 305 before them, they work fine in ireland) to get a more focused machine straight away.

What are Dell's smallest screens? I am looking for a deal on a portable laptop e.g. 12/13" screen. The smallest I can see is a 14.1" or a 13.3" on a XPS that's too steep for me. What happened the rumour that dell were bringing out a small vostro?

  • Moderators, Education Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 35,064 Mod ✭✭✭✭AlmightyCushion

Even a 12" vostro will be fairly expenive. When it comes to really small laptops they have to use components that use less energy, are physically smaller and expel less heat. This adds to the cost.

it looks pretty wrong to be honest, its 1200 ex vat so your probably wrong on the price, though it is a really nice laptop if you want it for video editing, try look for the acer aspire 5920g with the 8600gt graphics card

Very much doubt you can get it cheaper elsewhere...

Its a great laptop, but is an extra 200mhz and 160gb hard drive space worth €250?

A similar one on ebay with 70gb less space for €250 less

cheers man, the only problem I have with that listing is its for a refurbished unit.
and its a 15in screen instead of the 17in in my list
It had vista premium instead of vista business in my list...

The vostro 1000 has gone up by around €200! Does anybody know when these deals will actually become good deals again?

Would there be any extra cost to bring one over? I might have relatives coming this way from America soon, and thats fairly damn cheap. More than half the price of the same spec here.

I might wait till the 12" is out, and see how much it costs on the American site.
