Yeah can't wait for that Nitro set. I'm currently working my way through Nitro 1998, so I'm already pumped up for this DVD!

I wonder if it will just be match after match after match, or if they will give some background to the feuds and how the matches came about.

Not a big fan of wrestling anymore and they are just sitting there and I would like to see someone get enjoyment out of them. Plus money is tight at the moment ;)

Nitro DVD looks quality.. Gona check that out.

Watched The Rise and Fall of WCW last week. was pretty good although had an odd selection of matches. Some of them were good though. The Starrcade set was much better imho.

Picked up The Macho Man and Rock sets I'll let you guys know when I get around to watching them.

Any of you guys use Region 1 dvds? Their much cheaper on the internet so it's handy to decode your dvd player. Have bought a good few Region 1 sets and PPVs. I have the Triple H 'That Damn Good' dvd on Adverts that I'm selling if anyone's interested.

Nah Rise and Fall of WCW was rubbish. Another hack job documentary from WWE and yes, a bizarre selection of matches.

Macho's set is great, Rock's set not so great - actually most of the matches on the Rock's set are nigh on unwatchable for me since the screen is covered in blurs to disguise the WWF scratch logo.

Don't really bother with region 1s but I've gotten one or two via auction sites - I got the deleted WWF DVD Hulk Still Rules from USA for instance.

What DVDs are you talking about in particular? There can't be that much of a saving on WWE DVDs (including delivery etc.) vs. Silvervision is there?

Triple H That Damn Good was never available on Region 2.

No twas never available on Region 2.. I have it on Region 1 but I have the matches on other dvds so selling it.

I suppose most of the time there's not that much difference in price, esp. when Silvervision have a sale on but I picked some up in the states when I was there and there were a few releases that were never R2 so it's handy to have the option.

The Superstar Billy Graham and the Legends of Wrestling special DVDs would be good to pick up on region 1. The former wasn't recently because apparently the BBFC wanted a lot of footage cut and Silvervision didn't want to cut it - odd since it surely would've been granted an 18 unless there were graphic sexual scenes in a pornographic context. The latter were never released for unknown reasons. One of them was and maybe it was due it not selling well that no more were released or maybe WWE/Silvervision just weren't bothered.

    Just a heads up.

I was in Golden Discs in Mullingar yesterday and they are doing a massive sale on WWE dvds. Not sure if its running nationwide but I picked up The Ric Flair Ultimate 3 disc collection for 6 bucks and Mick Foleys Greatest Hits and Misses Hardcore Edition (3 discs) for a fiver.

They have other stuff too for the same price - Shawn Michaels from the vault, most powerful families in wrestling, lots of PPVs from the last number of years too.

Took advantage of that meself, the only thing I'd say is that theres about 4 or 5 really good ones, but the rest are just old PPV's that didn't sell.

Just watched the McMahon DVD had it ages and first time I got round to it
Was fairly good but they really skimmed over his early life which is one of the most interesting parts of his story from what i've read, extra's touched on it a bit tho.

Talking heads were fairly insightful on it as well. Didn't learn much new about the man but came away thinking it was as honest as a wwe release was going to be on the guy.

Fairly enjoyable set overall Vince's matches are bowling shoe ugly but they usually entertain so overall I'd say well worth a viewing (I got it for £5 in CEX and if you can get it for somewhere between 5-10 quid well worth a purchase)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,409 ✭✭✭Butch Cassidy

The McMahon dvd was atrocious. I was hoping for a genuine documentary warts n all. I'm also still hoping for pigs flying.

The Golden Discs specials are alright. There's some decent PPVs for a fiver. Vengeance 2002, No Way Out 2006, Backlash 2006/2007,

Having the same problem myself. Taking 10-14 days for them to arrive

A week? Lol I was having to wait a full month for mine a few months ago. I think they were posting them from France or something as there was like a French post address on the stamp .

The last DVD I got took 7working days which is fabulous compared to the 30days it was taking.

Its a good year or 2 since I last used them before using them twice in the last couple of weeks.

Back then they would usually arrive within a week.

Don't think Ill use them much anymore to be honest.

There's not much alternative unless you're buying Region 1. On some PPV DVDs you can get them quite cheap but usually on the box sets especially new releases they're the only place in Europe to get em cheap. I got the Ricky Steamboat set on their Wild Wednesday for £13 and I'd be surprised if you could find it online anywhere else for that.

    Tower Records eh?

It's going for 6 quid in Golden Discs. Assuming "town" means Dublin then there's one in the Jerv-Ass Cntr

Ah fook! Got it in the wrestling shop in Stephen's Green. Have they got any other wrestling DVDs in Golden Discs on sale?

Hah he probably went into Golden Discs and bought it there to resell it at a handsome markup. Sorry buddy but you've been had.

Doubtful they'll give you a refund and they're not obliged under consumer law to take it back - though policy varies between shops and some have a "change of mind" policy. Heck, the guy probably reads this forum. He probably even got the tip off for Golden Discs here!

Discs had a good few - Ultimate Ric Flair, 3 disc Hardcore Mick Foley, Shawn Michaels from the Vault. They also had various PPVs from 2002 up until 2008 I believe at around a fiver each. They had Ultimate Fighting Championship DVDs too.

I watched The True Story of Wrestlemania today, a very enjoyable insight in the history and background of WM.

I'll put the rest of this in spoilers.........
A lot of the focus of this 2 hour documentary was placed on the impact of celebrities, the different host cities and arenas chosen and reasons why, with interesting facts and short stories along the way.

They also go over the most memorable matches and moments that fans remember, selling a lot of emotion of nostalgia as you would expect from a WWE Wrestlemania DVD.

There was some never seen before footage clips, but not enough in my opinion. They scratched the surface with behind the scene clips from Wrestlemania 9, but I was hoping there would be a segment of the DVD devoted to something along the lines of a day behind the scenes at a Wrestlemania, showing wrestlers going over their matches and showing people pitching ideas to Vince as such. Maybe that's breaking the bounds of KayFabe too much, or maybe every single detail is already planned in advance.

Some emotion too from Vince talking about his father's presence, and Austin knowing that he was about to wrestle his last match, hence his new jacket.

As I said earlier, also a lot of really insightful segments acknowledging the impact of celebrities, such as the celebrities of the first Wrestlemania being just as important as the wrestlers, Donald Trump influencing the hosting of two WM's in a row in the same city, and how they drafted in Tyson for WM14 when they were losing their war with WCW.

All in all, highly recommend this.

    I agree with all that.
I know they like to tie in different wrestlemanias but i hated when they'd jump forward 10 years (eg WM6 and 18, WMX and XX). It was a very enjoyable watch but definitely if they focussed on backstage of one wrestlemania it would've been great (i suppose that's what the Mania or WrestleMania is) but yes, too much emphasis on celebs, bands and the decision of where to hold the show. The never-before-seen backstage footage is great but there's not nearly enough of it.

Also did you notice they showed/Sheamus mentioned HHH & Taker @ X7!! At least they didn't gloss over the fact that WM8 and WM9 had BS main events due to backstage politics.

It was also very interesting to see superstars (Edge, Jericho etc) saying that the stadium crowd noise is much worse than having it in an arena; but the spectacle is better...

Also good of them to admit that Hogan was an intricate part of establishing WrestleMania.

I was happy that they just cropped the vast 4:3 footage to 16:9, i thought it was done well.

    Overall I'd recommend the DVD, 2 hours is a good length, I could've watched a 6-hour doc though :p

Yep, and that's the only mention of that WM17 match we're going to get this year!

By the way, what is that 'Mania of Wrestlemania' you mentioned? Is it related to 'Wrestlemania: The Movie', which was supposed to be complete backstage footage shot before I think WM19, but which I also think never got released on DVD?

  • Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 12,013 Mod ✭✭✭✭jaykhunter

Yep, the Mania of WrestleMania is a ~hour long documentary about WrestleMania 19, narrated by Jesse Ventura. It came as a free extra with WrestleMania XX DVD. It's quite hard to come by on the internet though. It's really worth a watch since 19 had tons of backstage stories, centering on Rock/Austin's different paths and Austin and Angle's health problems. If you can find it I'd highly recommend it. It would be great if the True Story of WrestleMania did this for 25 manias....imagine the run time! :p
