Could be a smolt, they seem to go silver, have a video of putting him back, could put it on youtube and send you the link
Seems to be a bit of a mystery

    Salmon Smolt no question

Salmon smolt. Also easily confused with a sea trout smolt, but in this case the position of the jaw, single large spot on the operculum (gill plate), length of the pectoral fin, coloration of the adipose fin and forked tail shows its definitely a salmon. Smolts are very late migrating to sea this year due to the cold spring. Let's hope the lice levels on farms are low this year and they get past them safely...

Caught this over the weekend while brown trout fishing , think its a little sea trout or salmon, anyone know ?
Well at first glance I thought it was a Salmon but when I zoomed in it seems to have a pinkish tinge running along its side (unless my screen is a bit off) so I wonder could it be a Rainbow?

Ok, you can't see the fish, but he was there! Just a small wild Boyne brownie of about half a pound who went back to fight another day. Photo shamelessly nicked from the wife.........

    :D

IIRC it was a little CDC fly I tied myself. Not sure what you'd call it but just some CDC with a black head and thorax on a black body. Really simple fly to tie.

BTW, if you click the photo it will bring you to the rest of her set on Pix.ie

Always a lot more enjoyment when you land a fish on your own fly
I must get out fly fishing soon
Up to me eyeballs with work and shooting on weekends
    Well done again

Best of luck, they still aren't around in big numbers but you might get lucky and hit a shoal of them.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,204 ✭✭✭dodderangler
