I caught this little painted ray last week. Looked like he was in the wars a bit. The cut was fully healed and didnt seem to affect him in any way. Not sure if it was caught in something or if some scumbag took a knife to it.
    Strange lookin fish either way.

Ok, you can't see the fish, but he was there! Just a small wild Boyne brownie of about half a pound who went back to fight another day. Photo shamelessly nicked from the wife.........

Caught this trio of Rudd from a local lake yesterday.
Fed maggots and corn, little and very often for a good 20 minutes while rudd from fry-size to 6/7oz amassed in big numbers. Eventually, these three beauts appeared and they looked enormous compared to their cousins and we were sure we were looking at 2lb+ fish.

3 were hooked and 2 were landed on double fake corn. The one that didn't get landed on corn wouldn't take the bait anymore but was still happily munching on maggots. Changed the rig over to freelined double fake casters (three would pop up the hook) which fell very naturally through the water and the last of the trio fell for it almost instantly!

Unfortunately they weren't to be two pounders, but there may be a few in there somewhere...

    1lb 9oz, 1lb 9oz and 1lb 11oz.

Caught my first fish with my newish rod today. He was too small to keep so I returned him to the lake. It was a beautiful fish though. Never seen one of them up close before.

I finally have had some success in the hunt for my first tench.
Although it doesn't look it from the picture the third was considerably bigger - it was very "thick".
