    HERE we are

    €450 gets you

    1. 14" , just take it
    2. 512Mb RAM
    3. DVD Writer

not worth upgrading monitor to 15" but a better battery for another €11 is recommended. Do not buy anything else off Dell otherwise .

simply click HERE and reduce the warranty to 90 days. Tell them you work for AIB :p

Um, what's epp? Is it the discount for employees of certain organisations (such as AIB) and how do you access it without the above link?

    Sorry if I'm being dumb!

Cheers SpongeBob, just ordered that with the added battery :)

It didn't ask me who I worked for but I just logged in with my own account when checking out. €460 for the machine involved is a steal :)

I think you're a legend, but my credit card hates you! :p

Anybody know if i'd be pushing my luck trying to run any of the GTA series on this laptop?
Any other games that will work on her? Got the 512mb version, very quick delivery and the built in wireless has an amazing range - I'm delighted with it.

    This should be ok :D

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,389 ✭✭✭cianclarke

 Knew somebody would reply with that!
I see somebody above managed unreal tournament 2003 - I have no idea what this is, but I see the specs for video under this are:
    Video:
Any Windows-compatible video card (NVIDIA GeForce 2 or ATI Radeon with at least 64 megs of video memory recommended)
Surely the Inspiron doesn't have this, and yet still it apparently runs it... Would I get away with GTA 3 maybe? Anybody care to comment before I'm actually mad enough to go and try it? :D

Edit: Update - What an incredible machine, it runs GTA3 better than my dell desktop! Next I'm going to try vice city. I know it'l neer run SA, but I'd be happy even with VC...

Wireless LAN USB dongle? Should not be compatibility issues with this. Are you sure you have all the settings correct? Encryption etc?

    Not your ornery onager

This weeks variant as the offer changes one or twice a week.

    256Mb Ram
    Only a 40Gb HD Now
    DVD Burner

Still €450 once you drop the warranty to 90 Days .

  • Registered Users Posts: 482 ✭✭Sharp

Running Roman Total war and the Add-on Barbarian Invasion on it perfect.

Only 256mb so it’s having to page between battle and map screen loads but

Getting extra memory this week which will remedy this.

    Battles are smooth.

No problems. GTA III only needs 96MB of ram you know ;)

The Intel integrated gfx are equivilent to about a Geforce 3 I'd say - they say its the same as an fx5200 but its definatly not for real time gameplaying. The best game I managed to get running was Pariah on medium settings, smooth. Some corrupted textures though, but nothing major.

Unreal 2K3 has WAYYYY higher requirements then GTA 3 btw, so don't use GTA 3 as any sort of bench as its an old game with very low requirements that'd work on virtually any old computer. The minimum requirements are 450mhz, 96mb ram and a mere 16mb video if you're wondering.

UT 2k3 should work, it'll look pretty poor, but on quite low settings, it should run fairly smoothly.

GTA SA also works, however on low detail and a lowish draw distance.

  • Registered Users Posts: 24,196 ✭✭✭✭Sleepy

Just using the machine for surfing, web-development, CD/DVD burning, watching movies etc (i.e. standard home use) but very happy with it. Got the 6-cell battery which gives me about 3 hours of life.

For the money, I'd definitely recommend this.

This offer seems to have passed by. can anyone give me a new e-value code for similiar price?

Using the laptop out the back right now (Watching a greenfly crawl up the edge of the LCD!), but does anybody find the reduced LCD brightness when AC is plugged out unusable? I can't see 100% properly at anything under full brightness.
Also, the refresh rate is only 60, I'm a bit worried that it's hurting my eyes - I've been having eye-aches lately and it's the only thing I figure can be doing it. The rate won't go any higher than 60, any suggestions?
