Value Code N04135A. Can only be bought over the phone at 1850 201048(they give you some of the details online but you can't customise and buy). Says its available until 3rd of May. This was in the April Home magazine in the Sunday Times.

Its an Inspiron 1300. Celeron M 1.5Ghz 1Mb L2 Cache 400Mhz FSB. Win XP Home. 256Mb 533Mhz Ram. 40 Gig HDD. 8xDVD-Rom/24xCDRW. 14.1" Widescreen. 90days CAR. Built in 56k modem. Basically the same model as from this thread minus the DVD-RW drive. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2054894158

Presumably can be upgraded when you call them with the standard Euro12.10 for the 6cell battery and Euro48.40 for the 15.4" screen.

I wouldn't presume it has wireless. Normally, they'd mention if it had. I have one of these machines, and it didn't come with Wifi. However, it had a mini-pci slot beside the memory, and I put a Wifi card in there myself.

If you click here , it will cost €469 Including DVD RW and Wireless and otherwise specced as Walshski said in the OP

    Hints

    1. Reduce warranty to 90 days to get the €469 price
    2. State your employer, make sure its a big bank or university eg UCD or AIB

The outlet store only contains computers that are returned to dell and refurbished. They are kind of one off bargains and you have to be lucky and/or persistent to find good deals.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,261 ✭✭✭mel123

ah i see. would u recommend buying one then? i presume they come with full warranty and look as new etc yeah??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 442 ✭✭Lambsbread

I'm not too sure to be honest, I've never bought a computer from the outlet store. I think they come with a full warranty and should be okay. Other people around here will know more about this than me!

Could anyone confirm that it is easy to install additional memory for this laptop ie. another 256mb? I also presume it would be easy to hook this to a larger monitor for playing movies on?

    Anyone receive theirs yet?

I think, now i could be wrong, but if u make any changes to your laptop/pc with dell, i presume other than using Dell equiptment, then automatically you loose your warranty...this might be worth checking.
You should check what kind of connections/ports it comes with as it may not have a port for plugging ur screen into. The sales guy told me this is a VERY basic model.

Yes it will probably void the warrenty... but in the case that something happens just take out the part and give the laptop back... and yes it has a vga connection so you can hook up to any monitor... and btw this is now available on the dell website without any evalue code...

Use your brains lads, adding a stick of RAM wont void your warranty. The vendor will only support the machine in original (or authorised upgrade) configuration though.

I've pulled a 256MB stick of memory out of one of these laptops. Anybody interested for 20 euros?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,371 ✭✭✭Irishpimpdude

The 14 inch is still fine. As for light Counter Strike play - yes, but you'll need to upgrade the RAM to at least 512 to play it - the Graphics card is integrated and will eat into your ram to actually run CS so 256mb ram wouldn't be enough (I assume you mean CS:Source - CS original will run no probs on that spec)

And added to that it prob won't look very pretty so don't be planning on gaming much (except old games of course which will be fine)

    yep, by about €50 to €515 :( .

here is a new link, 15.4" monitor as standard instead of 14" and €501 all in , again select 90 days warranty and state you work for a bank like BoI
