Surprise surprise!! Big precipitation gap opening up as the front crosses the midlands. Where is that gap headed fir on the east coast I hear you ask? Why Bray of course!! Seems like last sat and sun nights were just glitches in the Bray Snowshield. Shield held fast ever since. Nothing but a couple of light 5 minute flurries here in Bray in the last 5 days!!

    BREAKING NEWS:

The IOM has been moved to Kildare to stop Bray getting snow :D

Starting to snow lightly west of Drogheda. Nice big flakes but too few of them!

Snow as picked up to be fairly decent in Thurles now, not crazy heavy but very decent.

Galway has some sort of snow deflecting shield I think according to rain today.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,033 ✭✭✭redsteveireland

slight rain/sleet/few bigger flakes here in Galway. There is Definitely a thaw, I can see the frost melting off the neighbours car. No frost on my car for the first night in a while

Any idea how long it is meant to last?

Nothing overnight in East Galway City (Parkmore). Still no precipitation yet, but the air temps have climbed a bit and are now hovering around freezing. Very very slight thaw in progress, but nothing to write home about.

-5 c currently in Arklow with a dewpoint of -7c and rising with the arriving cloud
wet bulb temp is -5.8c and it's mostly cloudy.

That means snow is likely should precipitation get here.I doubt a lot if any will.
The front is travelling over very very dry air which is squeezing it like a sponge before it gets to the ground.Hence you see very little precip in the centre of the country.
I expect snow and agree with WC, to reach Dublin in the next 2 hrs or so and to be quite heavy.
South of Dublin to Gorey and wexford,I'd expect very little if any bar a few flurries as high ground soaks up the moisture and that low temperature dry air affect en route.

Apparently roads are lethal in Cork City now - raining and then freezing. Does not look good

Just started snowing in East Mayo now, though I think we might have had a light scattering last night too.

MT did refer to this front being weak and that certainly is the case as it hits the east. we got alot more out of the streamers over an hour than we will get out of this! The wind has picked up though and thats creating blizzard like conditions as the snow flies off the roof and whirls around!!
