Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Anybody know anything about a photoshoot today?

Until today I'd no idea of the location of the Elverys Sports warehouse.:D

But some beady eyed work colleagues spotted a Mayo player doing what appeared to a photoshoot.

Is a new jersey due to be launched?

I went down for a gawk but couldn't make out who it was.

    Possibly Oisín Mullin.

Not sure how 5m will make much of a difference in the grand scheme of things??

A query I would have is why these works couldn't have commenced sooner while Mac Hale Park lay idle as it will now not be available for use until next year.

I don't think anyone could have predicted how COVID was going to turn out. Also the fundraising plan for this was only started late last year, so the idea of doing this or even the planning was probably only in its infancy in the latter part of 2020.
Also - not sure if laying a pitch would have constituted essential works, so likely no work would have taken place for a large amount of the past 12 months anyway.

I’m guessing the county board wouldn’t be able to afford to purchase the sods?

Wonder what situations the gaa allow counties to get sods from their own company. You would think that with no concerts that there would be capacity for us. The gaa probably want to use it for Parnell park and other Dublin pitches...

New Mayo jersey is out today.

    https://www.con-telegraph.ie/2021/03/15/new-mayo-home-jersey-for-2021-launched/

Not crazy about the collar nor the red on the sleeve.

The white stripes on the shoulder are nice.

Nice touch the white collar/rim at the bottom of the sleeves.

    Kind of retro look IMO.

Whoever designs kits for O'Neills is like a child with too many crayons. Their jerseys are way too detailed to look good in 99% of cases. They either blatantly rip off other manufacturers soccer jerseys (the last Mayo kit / Man United of a couple of years ago), or make a complete hames of it like in this case.

    Hate it
    Too much red

I actually think it's ok...better than the previous one anyway.
    Like the retro vibe.

Better than the stray red stripe that made its way to the back of the last jersey.

Just the red in the collar putting me off. Like the rest of it to be honest. May grow on me yet.

Ya I;m not sure still, looked at it a few times but its just not nice. :o

Yeah tend to agree with the consensus here too. Not a great effort by O'neills. The "Mayo Day" version is their best effort in awhile imho - for the one game it was used for!

Not an initial fan of the pinstripes on it. Might be nicer in the flesh but it very much has a retro look to it.

I definitely liking it more as the day goes on.
The 16/17 jersey and the commemorative Mayo day one are the nicest from the last decade,I'm looking forward to seeing this one in the flesh.

Love to see Tom Parsons appointed CEO of the GPA.

Very impressive speaker, has put in a lot of the groundwork required.

Passionate advocate for player welfare and universally liked by all within the GAA.

I like that the sponsorship for Conor Mortimers shout outs is written in invisible ink. Its only visible when the blood of a galway man is spilt on the shirt
    apparently

To be fair, it's a lovely jersey. Apart from the collar, the sleeves and the sponsor on the back. 🙂

Didn't know O'Neills hired Stevie Wonder for the design department.

It looks like someone designed an Aussie rules jersey and then looked around for some sleeves to slap on it.
Oh and then they put dollops of white on the ends of the sleeves and on the neck.

I am not allowed discuss …

I'm thinking this lockdown and lack of live sport is getting to people.

All this debate about the jersey.

    I'm looking at it.
It's predominantly green with a red stripe.
    That's all I can see.
I can't see anything else worth discussing about it.
And as long as it's predominantly green with a red stripe I'm happy.

It's one thing having a debate about the away shirt, that one year is red and black the next year metallic blue, but the home one is predominantly green with a red stripe, the traditional colours.
I don't see how people see something wrong with it.

The pinstripe looks stupid. Collar and cuffs looks silly.

Glad tidings re Oisín Mullin's commitment to Mayo GAA for the time being.

I would ask why Horan had to add the conditions highlighted below. Sounds to me like he could be gone whenever travel allows.

"He’s fully focused at the minute on Mayo GAA, where he can go and how he can develop.

"At the moment Oisín is fully committed. He had a strong year and there’s plenty more to come from him.”

No denying the lad is a talent and looks as if he would be really suited to the Aussie game. Hopefully he stays around long term, but unfortunately professional sports have major cheque books and he is one player who now having showcased just how good he is could get an offer it would be difficult to turn down.

This isn't far from being a meaningless statement given it's timing.

All it says is that he will be around for Mayo for the summer and autumn this year [although if the championship isn't run off until November/December that might even be in doubt, if he does sign a contract] This was always going to be the case when he hadn't agreed a contract by last October/November.

About whether he might be too old at this stage - it's hard to know with COVID but I would say the window isn't definitely closed at this stage. I would say if he doesn't sign a contract before the end of this year, the odds of him going would drop close enough to zero.

Starting salary for a rookie in 2022 is AUD $ 90,000 which is €58,500.
There's also a nice chunk of allowances and benefits - flights, accommodation, getting set-up, medical.
The initial two year rookie package is a fairly sweet deal - salaries in AFL have jumped up a lot in recent years - rookie salary in 2015 was AUD $ 55,440 which is just under €36k at today's exchange rates, which explains why the number of Irish in the AFL is the highest it has ever been.

Worth remembering that this is just the starting point. If a player makes it beyond the initial two-year rookie contract, there is the potential to make a serious chunk of change. The average salary for 2022 will be AUD $ 389,000 or €252k. The AFL have also eased the rules around Category B rookies starting from next year - previously they could only have one Irish rookie at a time whereas from next year they will be allowed have two, so don't except to see any slow-down on recruitment any time soon.

From memory Horan said the exact same thing last year about Oisin (just before the pandemic)
I imagine he was going to commit to Mayo for that summer and head off then,I think he'll go this Autumn.
If he wants to give it a try then i hope the pandemic isnt what stops him.
