Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. That's true, I'd be super nervous if it involved anything beyond clipping a speaker out and another in

Edit: Yeah, looks like they do

Me too. I saw a few videos before of people swapping out speaers, and as soon as they mention "soldering iron", that's me gone!

Upgrading the speakers does not effect the vehicle mechanics.

I replaced mine with JBL Stage 2 603C's. A world of difference. I still haven't managed to replace the dashboard speakers because I cannot figure out how to remove the current grills.

Hey championc, did you also update the amplifier, or just the speakers? Did you do all 4 doors?

I'd love to do it, but would rather get an expert to put them in. Do the likes of Halfords provide this service?

Are you serious ? Bloody simple. I needed to buy 6.5" spacers for the new speakers since the old ones were stuck to / part of spacers

Put the old ones back in, whip out your phone and record you doing it all over again ;)

Did you swap out the speakers on each 4 doors? Did you have to change the amp?

I simply swapped the speakers. The sets I bought had tweeters and crossovers. You just have to snip off the original connector and connect the wires to the crossover, then wire the speaker into the crossover onto the relevant terminals.

I mounted the tweeter just above the speaker and used a glue gun to hold it in place. I'll open it up later and take a picture of it.

I haven't done the front door tweeter as I felt I should possibly install them up in the front corners of the dashboard under the grills, but I haven't been able to remove the grills :(

    This any use ?

Just make sure you get the speaker wire polarity spot on or the speakers will be out of phase and you will think your new speakers sound absolutely crap.

I thought I saw an article recently that the Niro WONT be an EV in its next generation but instead an EV version of some kind of Sportage replacement is on cards.

I've read conflicting reports that it will get another update for 2022 but others say that it won't so hard to know.

new software update (EUR.S5W_L.001.001.210303) available with some new features. Still no full screen Android Auto, but you can use the right panel (where AA logo is) to display and scroll through the normal menu options.

The one thing I noticed is that it now accepts eircodes in the Navigation search, which is a huge bonus.

Some of the other screens are not great, including the Radio, which looks terrible in my view.

Update procedure if anyone wants it.

I've just installed that update, over the previous purple one. Hadn't noticed that it now accepts eircodes, must check that out later.

However, with both this and the previous version, my speed limit display is messed up. It displays --- instead of the speed limit on a lot of roads, sometimes it changes from --- to the correct limit in different sections of the same road, and on one road it reads --- in one direction and 50 km/h in the other!! Very odd. Anyone else seeing this?

Are you talking about the speed limit diaply on the Maps? Or on the Instrument Cluster? I could be wrong, but as far as I'm aware, these updates only affect the infotainment screen.

Both. They both display exactly the same data, but I assume the data comes from the map data in the infotainment unit.

Yes, it works! Well spotted. It doesn't do any kind of auto-completion, like it does for addresses, as you're typing it in so it doesn't look like it's working, but it does.

Even though I don't like a lot of the updates, it's definitely worth it to have the eircodes working in the navigation.

There's no subwoofer on the non-JBL factory setup. So all I've done is replace the door speakers front and back

OK thanks. I didn't think just changing the speakers would have much of an improvement, without a bit of extra bass.

There's far more clarity / sharpness / preciseness in the music and even dialogue. And I am no audiogeek. I'm sure a real one would be able to explain the technicalities better. But the cones are much deeper and the magnets huge.

I think the above model is the next generation of Niro. If so, it will be available in 2022 in Ireland.

Yes, given the recent announcement of the EV6, I'd assumed that future EV's would be called EV1, EV2 ... EV5 etc.

    Hi

Current Ioniq driver. Looking seriously at the eNiro to get from ~200km to ~400km range for greater flexibility and also I think 200km range cars will depreciate faster. Two questions:
    1. Is there any difference between the second hand 2020 models for sale and the 2021 new?
    2. Has anyone used a bike rack on an eNiro on motorway and how much of a battery drag is that?

    Thanks in advance!

There was no update between 2020 and 2021. That's assuming the second hand ones are the actual 2020 model and not ones from 2019 which were still being sold into 2020.

No idea about the bike rack question.

What is on the newer 2020 model that isn't in the first edition? Bigger screen, anything else of note?

Very classy looking Niro. If the new Sportage which is also due next year also looks something like that then that's good. If it looks like what a lot of other sites are saying then that's bad

The only type of bike rack that you can fit is the type that clips onto the rear, because you cannot connect a towbar to eNiro's (insurance restriction)

There's the app and maybe front parking sensors. An owner can comment on the sensors, but the FE didn't have them.

Yep have app and front sensors,

    Rear heated seats

    11kw ac charger.

Oh unrelated, but the car does go into a deep sleep, well for charging control anyway

Eg park car on Friday but plug it in on a Sunday evening, the scheduled charge doesn't start until you "wake" the car up either through the app or unlocking it.

Happens even if charging from solar:
Have it charging on Saturday, from solar with all schedules off, I have to wake it up again on Sunday to resume charging. (I usually just press refresh on the app).

There are a couple of 39kWh Niros around that seem hard to shift. They're around €30K alright.

The 192, 64kWh Niro that I traded in at the end of February was snapped up at €34K, but it was spotless and still had the new car smell. :)

    Hi Everyone.

Has anyone fitted a rear bumper protector to their Niro ?
The rear bumper could easily be damaged putting stuff into & out of the boot.
I've seen these online but know nothing about them ?

I put this on the ID.3, I had one from there on the e-Niro and on the Ioniq before that. Cheap as chips and avoids scratching, virtually invisible too. Easy to fit.

He has them for most cars.

Edit... He doesn't seem to have the Niro one at the moment.

Are they easy to remove? I'd rather this transparent one over the ugly grey strip

I've never tried to remove one, but I would expect them to be the same as any vinyl sticker. A bit of heat and it should peel off. Any residue would be easily removed with white spirit or similar.

I was quoted on Monday, 37.5k for a brand new E Niro, including metallic paint, straight sale, choice of colours and free charger. An extra 3.5 k for a brand new one rather than 2 years old seems to make sense.

Was it the 64kWh version? If so then that's a great deal, I was quoted €42k before Christmas

Our GOM is fairly on point.

Daily commute is 80km round trip, at 100%, N roads, no moterway, little traffic
    GOM Summer : 420, winter 380ish

Occasional trip of 265km, back home with 38% recently, sometimes low 30's in winter.

Longest trip was 300 odd km bit of everything, landed back with just under 20% (80km on the GOM).

€210 for the frunk. They take a load of stuff out of the boot. I had some tools, the jack, the charge cable and some safety gear in mine, and still had plenty of room left over.

I happen to have a frunk and a spacesaver spare wheel and tools that I can do a good deal on. ;) PM if interested.
