Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    EDIT: Taken some now.

    I have a few little doubts.... I'm thinking 2.00.xx

    No it won't.

So, and I'm not saying this is the case, but hypothetically he could be on a cocktail of performance enhancing drugs or are they doing this with proof he's not on them?

There are drugs that are only banned "in-competition", so technically yes, he could be on those during this race, but he could use those during his regular training anyway. If he uses any "prohibited at all times" substances, he's running the same risk that he does at any other time

There is only one man that has ever beaten kipchoge in a marathon and he is not Bekele. Fine performance in Berlin but still needs to prove he can do it under pressure (in the marathon of course other distances there is no denying his credentials)

Should have pushed it a bit more, could have gone sub 1:59:D

Seriously glad I watched that. The poor dog was wondering why I was shouting at my phone. Wonderful stuff!!

As much as I enjoyed it, not quite the Bannister effect. Appeared all too easy...

I wanted him at 1.59:59, and then collapsing, rush of medics, oxygen and off to oispideal to recover....you know, real drama!!!

I know. But Bekele is 2 seconds off the official WR I think..

The saddest part of the doping in Athletics and sport in general is that the likes of this morning are tainted by the antics of Salazar, Nike, and all of the dopers involved in the sport.
Comparing it to walking on the moon is just nonsense.

Yes but Bekele has DNFed every time he has had to run against top quality talent or had pressure to run a fast time j hope the reports of him changing his approach are true and he becomes a consistent world class marathon performer till then I still have my reservations

Delighted to watch that this morning. I can remember reading articles doubting that sub 2 hours would ever be physically possible, so I don't much care about the help and support, he physically did it in under 2 hours and now we know for certain that it can be done.

Hate to burst your bubble but doping has been around in sport for over 100 years.

Take it for what it is a great spectacle

+1 on this people think because it’s not sanctioned race he is exempt from testing. He is not he still has to carry out same testing as all other athletes and his blood passport is updated so he can’t just take a cocktail for this particular race the only test he doesn’t get is one to ratify WR as he did in Berlin last year however given his high profile he may well be tested by WADA anyway as a random test.

Very few athletes fail on in competition testing these days (if you do it’s like failing an iq test) and to best of my knowledge last time it happened was prior to out of competition testing (Ben Johnson’s Olympic win)

That was an unbelievable watch. He looked so strong throughout and really relaxed. No bother sprinting back down the finish line.

Because Berlin only has one superstar per year usually.

Mostly stimulants, full list is available with WADA but one of them was what Johan Blake was done for and a number of others which were found to be contained in an energy drink on sale in the stadium at the Jamaican championships

Will many more athletes break the 2hr mark now seen as they've witnessed it can be done?

Oh give over. There is nothing begrudging about a question about the rules involved. If I was begrudging I would have phrased it completely differently. And for the record, even with all the drugs in the world, sub 2hrs is still phenomenal for a human to achieve. Sorry for the abruptness here but it was a normal question saying as he isn't participating in a real competition. It's like some people want to live in a lovely world where people run these times on fresh fruit and veg and any distraction from that dreamworld makes them angry.

Are we ever going to see anyone in any running event just saying "**** it, I'm taking all the drugs and seeing how fast I can go" .outwardly I mean. Up front about it.

Obviously wont be officially sanctioned or wr eligible but as a spectacle I'm sure theres a market for it. Dope the crap out of themselves and see how low they can get times.

Speaking of.....is Kipsang done? I would have had him and Bekele both having their best days behind them prior to Berlin.

If they're up front about it, they won't get into any event. Immediate ban. It would have to be some kind of non-sanctioned event/artificial run (not unlike Kipchoge's), but who'd be interested? They wouldn't get the scientific backing that Kipchoge got, wouldn't get the investment, pacers, the shoes, the dedicated nutrition team and live fueling, etc. I reckon they'd be less likely to run sub 2 hours on a committed doping program. Plenty of runners are already doing it (doping undercover), and they're not achieving those times. Kipchoge's achievement required a very special set of circumstances (not least of all - a very special talent like Kipchoge). It'll be interesting to see what Kipchoge will run his next certifiable marathon in. If he can get close to 2:01:00, it would be a massive achievement and a huge leap forward.

Believe he had plans for Autumn Marathon but must have picked up an injury

Wouldn't be suprised to see him head up Tokyo Field (WMM not Olympics) though hasn't broke 2.06 in coming up on 3 years now.

Kipchoge is two seconds closer! Surely he will be the one to also do it first in natural circumstances.
