Watched an episode of Gypsy Brides USA last night, which featured a delightful young woman called Heifer who had been jailed for conning an elderly woman out $23k. She was trying to become a better person with the help of her aunt Miffy.

We also had a couple called Nukkie (f) and Pookie(m) who got married. Nukkie's mam's name was Dovie.

The preview for next week showed a young bride called Tuter (pronounced Tooter).

American blogger I occasionally follow has had 3rd baby. First 2 boys are Hanes and Arrow. She has called her newborn girl Echo.

Got an email from a Wanita today. I'm guessing it's an anglicised version of Juanita, it just looks silly though.

A friend told me about a relative who's expecting their 4th child, a boy. Now the first two daughters are called Daisy and Poppy, that's okay. Their son's name is Oak.
And their favourite for the baby is.... Leaf.

I couldn't think of any good reason why you wanna do that to your child.

It's more likely to be Indonesian or somewhere there abouts. Means female I think

At least make it Leif and pretend to be vikings like.

Daisy, Poppy Oak and Leaf, I predict a high wheatgrass consumption pattern in that family.

Daimler started marketing their cars under the name Mercedes because it sounded too Germanic for foreign markets.

Mercedes was the name of the daughter of the French Daimler importer.

So it's the car that's naff not the girl

I did hear years ago about a Mercedes Something-or-other who married... a Mr Carr.

Dolores is similar. The equivalent in the Irish is Maol Muire (not Máire). All three are first names given out of reverence to the Virgin Mary in cultures where a simple 'Mary' in the respective language was deemed disrespectful.

Could be worse; in the 18th century an English governor erected a phoenix in Páirc an Fhionnuisce because 'Fionn uisce' (overlooking the Liffey) in English sounded like 'Phoenix'.

Knew a guy growing up who's mother was named Mercedes. He would tell you it leads to the kids getting a god awful slagging. Give us a ride in yer Mercedes etc etc etc.
