Are you registering the sims before you purchase and port the number?

As in topping up with credit? Yes.
Then I make a call or two, and send a text or two.

Do you have an Eir Bill pay SIM? Can you confirm if Eir WiFi Calling is working on the Pixel 3A? You will need to into the phone settings menu and turn on WiFi Calling - if it is supported. If it works, you will get the WiFi calling icon on your toolbar (telephone receiver and small WiFi symbol). It definitely won't work if your SIM is pre-pay or unregistered.

I literally just took the eir simcard from the pack and ported it. didn't top up. successfully worked twice, with same simcard, to get two pixel 3a

You wouldnt know if you were just lucky with stock levels though. I might try again with me eir sim, even though I have one pending for over a week.

  • Registered Users Posts: 787 ✭✭✭Tango One

The status of my order is Your order is due for dispatch. Third time lucky maybe. I did register my detail with the eir sim first and used the exact same detail when purchasing on Vodafone website. No idea if I was just lucky or that made a difference

    Unnecessary tbh

I've bought a black and a white 3a now and only popped the Eir SIM into my old
phone to receive the code from VF during checkout. Never topped 'em up / made calls etc.

How did u get the sim without credit? They wouldn't give me the sim without buying credit.

Although they were sold out from the Eir shop so I had to buy from Carphone Whorehouse.

Gah, the dreaded white screen! Is there any chance of the order going through, or should I resign myself to looking for a refund?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,257 ✭✭✭deiseindublin

I'm still waiting on a SIM so I can try to buy this deal.

What's this dreaded white screen that lots of posters are on about?

REALLY hope I score myself one for Christmas at this amazing price.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,307 ✭✭✭dan786

White screen twice. 360 Euros stuck.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,810 ✭✭✭Charlie

After getting white screened twice, one of which is still showing as ‘order processing’ (and I need VF to cancel and refund), I tried one last time over the weekend. No white screen, order email received, and as of this morning the order is showing on both VF’s and Fonua’s sites as due for dispatch.

Looks like it’s still possible to succeed with this, but an absolute roulette with the white screen issue.

EIR sim was prepay... Literally just put it in a phone to receive the code for the Vodafone checkout process.

Got the white screen on Friday.

Does the refund come through automatically eventually or do you need to contact them?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,744 ✭✭✭funnyname

Can't afford to get white screened just before Christmas, is there any fool proof way of doing this?

I have one of the free sims from Eir, does this seem to be the most successful way of doing the transaction so far?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,307 ✭✭✭dan786

White screen is random. Happened to me on Eir and a Three sim on different devices with every single detail being different.

The order is stuck and it takes ages for them to even find it if you contact them, then cancellation takes 72 working hours and then refund another 6-7 working days. So anyone looking to get one keep in mind you may be waiting until after Xmas or even New Years for a refund.

I finally set my phone up. New baby in the house and every time I picked it up I had other things to do.

Seems like a great phone so far. The camera is unbelievable in nightmode. Took pictures of the little one in almost darkness and they came out very clear.

Wondering what the legalities of taking people's money without any intention of fulfilling the order, and subsequently cancelling the order without notifying the customer of either confirmation or cancellation.

The extra cash on hand can't hurt their end of year reports.

Could we get a bargain alert for a class action lawsuit going here?

You’re mental if you think any of the above is true.

Anyone who missed out on the Pixel , it might be worth looking at the Samsung A40 . I saw it on the other thread.

Not sure how they compare spec wise but at €89.99 you can’t go far wrong via three.

It is also dual sim which is a great feature.

    Relax, Charlie.

Which one of my non-declarative statements do you find to be untrue?

Of course you can go wrong, if it's a crap phone then you've gone wrong

It's serious value for money this phone, it's quite rugged and a good bit more plasticky than a normal Pixel, but the camera is as close to the same as a P2 I think, if anything, it's just slightly slower with a bit of a blurrier screen...

I have a Pixel 4 XL and saw one of these a few weeks ago and was very impressed with how good it is for the money...

Camera is same as pixel 3. The 3a doesn't have the dedicated pixel visual core which means it a little slower to process pictures but nothing that would put you off using it.
