Back in the summer of 2001 I was working in arklow. I was cycling home from work at around 5pm on a sunny evening when I saw a large ball of light blazing through the sky over towards Avoca. I mentioned it in work the following day but no one heard or saw anything. Nothing in the news either.

Never seen a meteorite during the day before or since. However it was clearly a meteorite as you see a long trail behind it as it started to break up.

A Pentagon UFO program was disclosed to the public last year. The guy who ran this said there are multiple programs run by other agencies but they are not going to be spoken about as they are still classified. They also have more UFO videos not declassified yet.

But would that not be a meteoroid? (i.e. smaller particle) that was unable to penetrate the atmosphere, not an asteroid (larger rocky body).

An asteroid would surely have a more intense flash, colours, breakup and even perhaps a sonic boom, of which none seems to have been reported. A big rock wouldn't 'bounce off' the astmosphere if traveling with any size or intensity.

That would seem to have been either a fireball meteor or else a piece of orbiting junk burning up in the atmosphere. Either way, if it was bright enough to be seen in full daylight, it must have been something relatively large.

I would love to hear it.

There seems to be some people in the US military who have a fundamental Christian world view, a coupe of people have said that is how they view UFOs but it's not some massive organized attempt to keep the truth from the sheeple.
There are also people within UFOology who think UFOs are like poltergeists.

Absolutely agree. Lets use science to understand them. We know there is something very unusual being seen. We do not know if it is extraterrestrial, or from somewhere else. However we need to treat this phenomenon with the respect it deserves, and not automatically dismiss it.

It was once dismissed that the earth was not flat .... Examine, record, collaborate, and let the data speak for itself. without data points we cannot begin to formulate answers.

However, I get slightly irritated when so called "experts" like Gerry Byrne say that the pilots probably saw a meteorite. Did he give any thought to how much he is disrespecting the captains of those aircraft.

They see meteors/shooting stars, etc, and can tell the difference. When 3 commercial pilots , are crossing the atlantic, on sceduled routes, and all 3 report something unusual, well, I would not be quick to tell them they saw a meteorite. - In my humble opinion, it simply highlights his sheer ignorance.

Highly doubt it, a rocket would have been in space and not flying beside the aircraft and coming up alongside the left of it
