IIRC, the gameplay in 'The Last of Us' is merely a cover-based shooter, with some stealth mechanics. It's the stuff of many games on consoles over the last...well...forever (which is why consoles are very much a second tier platform for me). But, it's the story that's coupled with the gameplay that makes 'The Last of Us' so well done. It also has some of the best voice acting that I've heard in any game and the world is very well realised.

But, if it isn't anyone's cup of tea. Don't play it.

I tolerated about an hour of the original game before returning it to the person who lent it to me. The second I got control of any character was still half in a cutscene and telling me run away from a zombie in a straight line. Of course I turn around and run into the zombies to see what would happen... quick time event and no repercussion. Then as above post mentioned the core gameplay was the standard cover based action which nearly put me to sleep.

I thought I was the only person who didn't love The Last Of Us. Got it on PS3 and didn't get far. My nephew went on about it for ages so got it again on PS4. Still wasn't blown away but got a lot more invested in the story. Enjoyed it more but it still wasn't the masterpiece everyone was talking about.

Pretty sure I got very close to the end, ended up in a tunnel full of clickers, bloaters and infected. But I had no ammo or resources so couldn't get past it and dropped it. I still have it there so may try again just to finish it before the sequel comes out, which looks very tense to me and I'm actually looking forward to.

I'm aware of Internet meltdowns in recent weeks but unaware of the reason for them as I haven't bothered watching anything on this.

Its a lot more than that in fairness, TLOU requires you to think about how your going to fight enemies making it a tense experience at times and timing a shiv or a Molotov cocktail right can be very satisfying.

It's no Ace combat 7 in fairness.

Just pick up a bottle, throw it at a wall and sneak past them. You’re not too far off finishing it, the last part is a real challenge though

Platinum in the bag for TLOU 1, roll on the sequel!

Thanks. Don't think I have the save file any more so it would be a new play through. After playing Resident Evil 3 over the weekend I might just start it again.

Lads, is there a way to grab this on launch day that doesn't necessitate downloading it from PS Store?

I suppose it was seeing as I started in 2014 :) The multiplayer trophies were a slog, those 2 took me the longest as I would dip in and out of it over the years. Other than that, it was following a guide to make sure you don't miss items and Survivor mode which was tough but really good.

There is but it requires using some of the skills you picked up from the 1st game.

Finished my playthrough of the first one the other night. It's still a pretty good game. But, yeh, it's a cover based shooter with stealth mechanics. Spotted throughout are a few simple quicktime events (hit square or triangle to break free of something) and there are a couple of mild puzzles here and there too. But it isn't anything anybody hasn't seen well before and after the game was made. So, it doesn't win anything in that dept.

What hooks the player, though, is the story and the believability of the characters, of which there was obviously a lot of time and effort put into.

I probably won't be playing the second game (or third if you count the DLC for 'The Last of Us'), if it doesn't make an appearance on the PC. If it does, I'll wait and see what the reactions are when it's actually out. I'm certainly not buying a PS4 just to play it, that's for sure.

However, I did have a look at a few vids concerning the meltdown about where Part 2 is going and if certain playing choices are true, then some of the people losing their shit over it may have a point, even if it's stupidly made.
For a portion of the game you play as some beefed up man or woman antagonist who kills Joel.
, which if true is a remarkably dumb direction for Naughty Dog to go in, especially when
people were so drawn to Joel and Ellie in the first game.

Yeah that's just it. People out here arguing because they actually think this is all over some SJW s**t when it has nothing to do with that at all.

I was trying to think how I could descibe it without spoiling anything and the closest I got was this:

Remember, years ago, when you liked The Walking Dead?.....

You know how you feel about The Walking Dead now and why?

    That. That's it.

People are legit worried that they've gone down this road of making snuff gore misery porn just for the sake of it and easy shock value. As opposed to the well done storyline they were known for.

Now they might indeed pull it off, I'm not saying they won't. But once you go too hard down that road it's hard to bring it back.

Wait wait wait.... So you're saying the game starts out good but then they end up at a farm where the characters don't do much and the whole thing becomes ****?

People really shouldn't try to explain it. You'll spoil it for someone inadvertently.

Let them experience in all its "glory".

You can jump, go prone and dodge. I thought the dodge bits from the trailer were mini scripted bits, nice to know it's actual gameplay, nice flow to to it.

I read the leaks as TBH, it doesnt bother me for the most part, I'll still give the game a look when the trade in copies start to hit cex, but the amount of apes out there posting spoilers is very annoying. Was watching a Call of Duty livestream last night and before I got a chance to turn off the chat, there was at least 4 posts giving details. Some very sad individuals out there.

If it's what I think it is it really isn't anything to get excited about. And it really doesn't warrant the ridiculous response from people over it.

The only ridiculous response is the borderline illegal one coming from Sony, NG.

Ah yes, ‘borderline illegal’ - or, in other words, not illegal.

Ah yes, ‘borderline illegal’ - or, in other words, not illegal.

Discussing footage unreleased to the public with said footage is not covered under fair use so is well under the remit of a DCMA takedown.

They strike people who have not used any copyrighted content: https://youtu.be/ScpPzFQRG7o But have fun continuing to defend a corporation, with a net worth close to $75 billion, from being able disrupt conversations they don't like at a whim.

They are still discussing unreleased footage under copyright. Still not a very strong case to argue fair use.

No footage used. They can discuss the leaks all they want which is mainstream news FYI.

I have no shortage of complaints about Sony’s practices over the years and indeed with modern copyright law.

But it also amuses me greatly to see a bunch of YouTube outrage merchants losing their **** over being unable to spew their bile.

surely illegal if it was legal it would be borderline legal, it's only a little illegal though so presumably that's ok, practically simply frowned upon

Spoiler alert Here's a lawyer talking about it:

Doesn't matter though. If by some miracle they do actually find themselves at the wrong end of a judgment that their massive legal department somehow couldn't handle, they will face no real penalties than they can't easily tank their money or make vanish with influence. They're essentially untouchable. Plus they have loyal fans who work gratis to protect their image and justify their behavior.

Exactly this. I'm sure they'll get plenty of 12 minute videos out about their rage over not being able to discuss the leaks which they're probably delighted by in all honesty. Now they'll get more views on videos giving out about sony and naughty dog than they would have if it was just about the leaks which are kinda old news now and their angry little child fans will lap it up. The wheel keeps on spinnin'

I'm kinda glad Sony have been doing it as I still haven't been spoilt on it so its kinda working....for me at least. The people I follow on twitter have been cool enough to not spoil it either.
When the game is out by all means its free reign alright but I have a feeling most people making those outrage videos likely didn't watch all of the leaked videos as it would take too long so reading a short recap on resetera is easier for them. You can tell as often in gaming related news videos will get pulled & reuploaded due to inaccuracies by not following basic "journalistic integrity".

It's such a bleak little outrage ecosystem they have going. Whatever about the thinly-veiled bigotry these dudes peddle constantly, it's the sheer repetitiveness of the content that would bore me tbh :pac:. It's the same topics, the same handful of nerdy franchises, the same endless outrage thrown out up to four or five times a day. Heck, they barely commit any time to the media they actually *like* so consumed are they by the endless hustle of outrage clicks.

That's what I don't get. I mean, each to their own but I can only imagine how happier these guys would be if they put as much effort in celebrating things they do like. I fully understand that there needs to be criticism and feedback in the world but constantly focusing on a negative is not healthy. Anyway, that's just me, gimme a Kevin Smith Marvel movie review listening to someone gush about something they love, like he puts it "If I don't like a movie, why would I spend more time creating a video, talking, editing, etc about something I don't like when I could use that time and effort on something I do like. Plus, what if someone watches it and gets put off by something because of what I said. What the **** do I know". I like that train of thought. Again, criticism is just as important but not just to rile people up but then, negativity is way more popular for clicks.

You see that is exactly the problem. To do what you are suggesting would take actual integrity, something these people lack. They aren't doing it because they are genuinely concerned about these issues but because of two entirely selfish reasons:

    1) They get more clicks and generate more revenue.
    2) More clicks artificially inflates their own perceived self importance, giving them an illusion of meaning to their bottom feeding life.

You made a massive mistake of expecting bellends to not be and act like total dicks.
